Nettlestead has deliberately focused on quality rather than quantity, remaining small enough for everybody to know each other, and their clients and their families love it.

Instead of providing care as it has always been done, the owners of Nettlestead asked what they would want from a care home, and the results are what set them apart. Complementary quality wine and sherry, en-suite toilets and baths that you would be delighted to have in your own home, staff who measure their length of service in decades, and outings and activities that are chosen by the clients.

Choosing care is never easy, but from the moment you walk in the door it becomes apparent why Nettlestead is the place you will want your loved-ones to be.

We lost Mum in September after a four and a half year stay at Nettlestead. The care manager Lily and all the carers treated her with the upmost respect and like they would have done their own parents. Despite her sometimes challenging nature due to the dementia, they were still very patient with her
and extremely kind and loving. The care home was very clean, friendly and homely for Mum and I felt very comfortable and welcome there when I visited which was always unannounced and at different times. It really is a lovely home for your loved ones and they were very kind, compassionate and caring when it came to Mum leaving us. I miss going in and chatting with Lily and the carers who I felt like were my friends in the end. I would not hesitate to recommend Nettlestead x

My cousin is having respite care at Nettlestead after fracturing his wrist. From the minute he arrived he was made to feel welcome. The staff are kind and attentive and make the residents feel loved and included.
Being a small home, only 20 residents , there is more of a family feel and I have found
that the residents chat to and look out for each other.
The food is of a high standard and varied and there are always cups of tea and biscuits available for both residents and visitors.
Should you want some privacy there is a small lounge available and the garden looks lovely although we have not been out there at this time of the year.
There was some lovely Christmas entertainment from singers and choirs from local schools which the residents really enjoyed.
My cousin feels cherished and is seriously considering becoming a full time resident.

I can only speak highly about Nettlestead. The staff are incredibly kind to both the residents and their wider family. First our mum, and then our dad, were resident at Nettlestead and both were in need of care and help at a difficult time. The staff enveloped our whole family with love and kindness.

Nettlestead is a small residential care home and so it feels more homely than some of the others we visited. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The lounge and dining area are bright and cheerful. Both mum and dad enjoyed the activities. Food is of a high standard, and the garden is really very pretty and accessible. But it's the care that really stands out. The staff genuinely care about both the physical health and emotional wellbeing of the residents.

Mum moved into Nettlestead in the summer and has been very happy and content. The process has been really smooth and we feel comfortable that she is receiving the best care from all of the staff. The food is great too.

Nettlestead has been fantastic for my Dad. He was struggling to cope in his own home and relying heavily on me to care for him in between his carers. From the initial assessment to getting him moved in, caring for him on the day to day, and dealing with the various healthcare providers, they've been
amazing. I am so appreciative of their care and support and my Dad is very happy there.

As soon as you walk in to Nettlestead Care Home it feels like someone's house or home and not an institution. It is a lovely small and friendly home. The Management are extremely thoughtful and are there to look after the needs of the residents. My father has dementia and even though he cannot string
a sentence together he is stimulated by having people around him who encourage him to interact with others and have a chat and a laugh. The carer's are always lovely and as it is only a small home they get to know all the residents very well. My father is very content in Nettlestead and if he is so am I. Thank you ladies

It has been a pleasure to get to know the care home, residents and staff. My sister-in-law has been there for nearly 3 months and we are happy with every aspect of her care. It was easy to choose the home having visited only once and it has proved the right choice. Beautiful building and facilities,
very caring and helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble.

My Mother-in-Law has been in Nettlestead for 3 years. She is 99 and has Alzheimer's and mobility issues. When I visited in December just before Xmas, she was bright, happy and humming 'Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer' to herself. When I left at lunchtime, she was happily chatting away in the dining room
to the other ladies at her table. And I always get feedback given by the staff on how she is doing without asking. It wasn't possible for her to be cared for in her own home and she is in good hands here.

Visited my stepmother yesterday.
Relaxed atmosphere. All the staff are so friendly and caring to all the residents and visitors.
Lunch looked and smelled delicious - fish or chilli.
The manager had time to go over a couple of points with me in private.
I'm always offered a drink and biscuits.

Both my parents are at Nettlestead and have been for well over a year. The care home feels so homely it doesn't feel like a home. I feel extremely lucky to have been able to get my Mum and Dad into the home and knowing that they are so well cared for has given me peace of mind. The care they receive
is second to none, the staff are amazing many of who have worked there for well over ten years which I always think is a good sign, you don't need to care to be a carer but all the staff clearly demonstrate how much they do care, always respectful, compassionate, patient and kind towards all the residents. The food is homemade and delicious and if you happen to arrive at lunchtime you are always offered a dinner. The home is well managed, and the home care manager couldn't do more for you, she has the resident's care needs at the forefront of every decision she makes. I visit my parents a couple of times a week, all at different times of the day and I always receive the same warm welcome.

Nettlestead is a lovely, clean, welcoming care home. Our mother is extremely well cared for. The staff are kind, attentive and enjoy a joke! Our mum is very happy. The food is delicious and meals can be taken in the bright dining room overlooking the garden. There is plenty of entertainment from visiting
singers, yoga, quizzes to bingo. We are so happy we secured a placement for our mother.

The moment I stepped through the front door I knew that Nettlestead was the care home for my mum, it felt so homely.
My mum has only been in Nettlestead for a few months but I cannot fault the staff, so professional, caring and friendly. They can't do enough for my mum and have got to know her really
well over such a short space of time to help her settle in. I know that my mum is well cared for 24 hours a day, which gives me peace of mind. The food is freshly prepared every day and the home is kept clean and tidy, with lots of activities for the residents.

My mum was in there for four weeks for respite care after a hospital stay. My mum just loved her time there and was reluctant to leave, the staff were absolutely brilliant and made a big fuss of Mum which gave me total peace of mind and also made all her visitors very welcome. Also great support from
management.

I spent two weeks convalescing in this wonderful care home after two days in hospital having a hip operation. This has been my only experience of a care home. My consultant said I needed two weeks of rest and relaxation and I couldn't have asked for better. My room was bright, very clean and comfortable
with a nice bed, TV, en suite adequate storage space and chair for visitors. The en suite was very clean and had adequate soap, towels, flannels and call alert. The staff were very friendly and caring and happy to respond promptly if I needed to call them using the call button. Meals were delicious, very adequate portions and brought to my room when I needed. Also, additional cups of tea or whatever I needed were cheerfully brought to my room. The communal dining room and sitting room were comfortable and decorative and again 'waitress service!' The garden is a delight, quiet and restful and with more than adequate seating. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely care home.

It's always very difficult for a son to visit his mother in a care home. However, I walk in to Nettlestead to be greeted by the kind, compassionate and hard working staff. On visiting Mum in her beautiful, clean, spacious room, we often wander down to the quiet garden and watch the nature there and
have a general natter. Mum always takes me (or us when visiting with wife/grandchildren) to the lounge to say hello to the residents. They are all such good friends. Recently, they had a visit to Greenwich Park which looked fantastic. I can honestly say from two years ago of getting our mother into residential care, I can not believe how happy she is in her 'new' home. She looks so well and eats three square meals per day (in the beautiful, newly renovated dining room). The manager's door is always open and the staff feedback is always good. There is always a listening ear towards your needs/concerns. Always a pleasure to visit and we still have to take the offer up on lunch there some day.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.737)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.737) out of 10 for Nettlestead Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.837 for Nettlestead Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (158 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 184 Ratings = 4.837
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nettlestead Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
