The Oaks Residential Care Home is a charming property that has benefited from renovation, where care teams make the most of spacious interiors to offer clients a friendly service.

Life at the Home

The Oaks is run as a small family concern with the owners closely involved with the day to day running of the home. The objective of the home is to offer each resident individual care and attention which preserves their privacy and dignity right up to the end of their days.

A great deal of flexibility is offered to residents to make their own choice in all aspects of their day. Every encouragement will be given to the pursuance of their hobbies, interests and religious worship.

Accommodation

The house provides pleasant bedrooms comprising of all single rooms. All bedrooms contain fitted carpets, central heating and washing facilities; most include en suite facilities. In case of an emergency, a fully integrated nurse call system has been installed in every bedroom and bathroom. There are two spacious and comfortable lounges with colour televisions in each where residents socialise and an attractive dining room, and a quiet area. They also have a patio area overlooking the gardens.

There is a lift, which will accommodate a wheelchair. The garden is beautifully landscaped, containing two large patio areas with wheelchair-friendly access, and beautifully kept raised flowers beds and ample benches for sitting and admiring the view. Well balanced and varied meals made with fresh ingredients are served with a choice of menu and mealtimes. They also cater for residents who require special diets.

Activities

The Oaks looks to provide a varied array of either group or 1-to-1 activities for the residents to encourage communication and to reduce the risk of social isolation within the home. They have also found the activities beneficial to help stimulate the brain function of Dementia clients.

The Oaks provide excellent care in a professional but very friendly/caring way. They treated the resident respectfully and like to laugh, joke, play game and dance with them. My father-in-law is happy and relaxed, and that's the most important part.

1) All staff supported my mother until the end of her life - all assessments (OT, physio, speech and language) arranged to help her and to plan. All equipment arranged e.g. Air bed for pressure sores prevention.
2) Mother treated with kindness and respect. The Oaks has excellent working relationships
with local GP and hospice.
3) Mother lived at The Oaks for four years - great activities (quizzes/art/exercise) kind and fun staff. Pleasant garden. Convenient location for shops/public transport.
4) Responsive and welcoming staff.
5) Strong and kind management team, who are willing to be creative and adaptive to changing needs.
6) Such a big thank you to all at The Oaks for looking after Mum and me and our friends.

Mum enjoyed her time at The Oaks. She found the staff friendly and also made friends with some of the other residents. She thought the food was very good and there was always tea and coffee and cold drinks available. She enjoyed the activities provided by The Oaks and will be happy to go back when we
are going on holiday.
Reply from Jenny Freeman, Registered Manager at The Oaks Residential Care HomeThank you for your review, we are grateful for your positive comments and I will pass them on to all the staff involved in your mum's stay.

With all the recent bad publicity with care homes, I was reluctant to place my father-in-law in the Oaks. My fears were unfounded with The Oaks. The care, kindness, attention and love he received was first class. He was in The Oaks for the last six months of his life and was treated with the greatest
respect and dignity.

I found the staff and manager to be so caring and helpful. The food looks really good and I think The Oaks has a really homely feel.
The place needs a bit of updating and the decor is antiquated but I was more interested in the care.
I will definitely use The Oaks again and hope to use it in December
and I have recommended it to a friend for her mum.

My uncle is cared for very well. By his own choice he stays in his room, but is frequently checked on by the staff, he cannot communicate very well as he is deaf, but the staff try to communicate with him by writing and pictures. Overall, the home is clean and has never smelled of urine etc, which is
something I have experienced in other care homes. Overall, this family are pleased with this level of care.

My mother moved into the residential part of The Oaks in January 2017 after not being fully able to cope living on her own due to poor health. My mother is now over 102 years old.
The manageress, who is very approachable, moved very quickly when contacted by my wife and offered suitable accommodation
at a reasonable price.
Under her guidance, my mother's health has improved tremendously. She is regularly seen by the doctor and chiropodist etc...
She has excellently prepared regular meals, her personal hygiene is excellent and clothes are washed daily, she is always well presented and there is a carer available to see to her needs day or night.
I am happy to know that my mother is being well looked after and in a friendly environment.

My mother was very well looked after during her recent stay here. Her room was homely, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. There was a range of activities during her stay and a visiting hairdresser who made my mum look like herself again so she was very happy.

After visiting several care homes in the area, we selected this home to provide 4 weeks respite for my 93-year-old mother, following a fall at home. The management strategy at this care home reflects very favourably throughout. All members of staff treated each individual with the utmost respect, kindness
and consideration and nothing was too much trouble. The complexities and arrangement of my mother's medical requirements were dealt with by the manager and her staff which lifted a heavy burden off our shoulders.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.626)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.626) out of 10 for The Oaks Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.751 for The Oaks Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (145 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 185 Ratings = 4.751
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Oaks Residential Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
