I am very happy with the care and support that my mother receives. I always find her happy and more importantly clean and respectable. Mum loves going out and the Activities Coordinator has been very helpful and looks after my mother on frequent afternoon trips. The staff at the home work hard and often under difficult conditions - but this never stops them smiling or passing the time of day and visitors and residents.

Very friendly staff and carers. They all clearly do everything they can to help and understand the needs and wishes of the residents and treat them with respect. The lounges and the dining room are very spacious and the carers intermingle with the residents whenever possible. All pretty impressive with clearly strong management in-place.

We as a family find them wonderful. They are very caring and unbelievably kind. Now that my mother-in-law has become increasingly debilitated they are giving her superlative care. They are all very warm hearted and she responds to this. The management is amazing always working out what will make her feel better together with the carers. Today they got to walk which is incredible. Since her stroke in August, she has been confined to her bed and it was unlikely she would walk again. Due to their determination, encouragement and love at Sydmar Lodge they got her walking today. We are overwhelmed.

Sydmar Lodge's staff were absolutely fantastic with my Mother who had to go there for 5 week's respite whilst her kitchen was being fixed after she had a flood. I had very little time to sort out respite care for her and phoned Sydmar Lodge since it was fairly local to where my Mother lives. From the moment I spoke to the Manager, I knew my Mum would be in safe hands. My Mother was unsure about going into a care home but as she is a frail 81-year-old she needed to be looked after. My Mother and I went to view Sydmar Lodge to see the room she was going to be assigned to and we were taken around by the lovely Deputy Manager who answered all our questions and made my Mum feel at home. My Mum felt content although a little nervous and a few days later she moved in for respite care. She absolutely loved it, every member of the staff were excellent and the food was of high quality. She also loved the entertainment and joined in. She didn't want to come home!

I have found my time here as being almost on holiday. Staff are wonderful, everything is done to help me. I sold my 50-year-old house to live here and do not regret it. Food is good, most of the time, but sometimes is a bit too much. They do their best to keep us entertained, particularly the male staff. One in particular, is marvellous. Would recommend it. First class. Entertainer a bit expensive but no choice.

Julia DaveyJob Title:Registered Service ManagerJoined: 2016

Julia has worked in the care sector for over 30 years, and at Sydmar Lodge since 2016. Before this, she worked as a Regional Manager for a large corporate care organisation, covering 9 care homes and 13 day centres. She is passionate about resident care, and missed the direct contact with people and their families, which is why she returned to Home Management, and chose Sydmar Lodge as it has always been known for it's family oriented atmosphere.

On Wednesday, 7 January 2026, Julia was presented with a Gold Award by Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care at the Department of Health and Social Care. The award recognises individuals and teams for outstanding contribution, leadership, and innovation within social care.
