The care and attention given to my mum while she was at Charter House was excellent. She was happy there, made some new friends and felt safe and comfortable. She liked the choice and quality of food provided and had no issues with the cleanliness and facilities provided.
The staff were friendly and attentive when giving care to mum, and the family are very appreciative of the care she received throughout her time there and particularly during the palliative care stage.

Would not hesitate to recommend this home.

My mother has just spent 2 weeks at Bedford Charter House. She has dementia so couldn't tell me much about her stay but she did say the staff were very nice and looked after her well. I also found the staff to be lovely extremely helpful and caring towards mum. The room was basic but clean and comfortable for her. The security was excellent with codes for every door and I felt happy that she was safe in their care.

I used Charter House for 5 days' respite after a hip surgery. The staff were very friendly, helpful and kind. I was addressed by first name just like longer-term residents, and encouraged to mix, which made me feel part of the home. My only slight grumble is that I was not entirely comfortable, there was no bedside table and the bed was a bit basic but the care staff got me some chairs risers very quickly. The food was very good and I got the help I needed with showers, getting dressed, etc. The courtyard was brilliant for safe walking. I felt the staff genuinely cared for the residents and I had a lovely time, felt very safe and pampered.

My husband was always treated with kindness and warmth by all his carers. They were genuinely interested in his wellbeing and comfort. He had Alzheimer's which made communication difficult and hard to interpret, but they were gentle and steady with him. They were able to provide some happiness to his life through their always upbeat individual interactions with him and also the organised group activities. I am hugely grateful to them. They always reacted quickly to my concerns when I was visiting him, and had a sense that he was safe and in good hands when I left.

The care and attention that Charter House provide to my Mother and late Father is outstanding. The staff are kind and caring and kept us well informed during the Covid restrictions. We sadly lost Dad in March but all the staff went the extra mile to ensure that we could visit him at the end. Mum is in the grip of Alzheimer's but she is treated with tenderness and care. We struggled to keep them at their own house and reluctantly made the decision to place them in Charter House in March 2020 but it was the best decision we could have made. We know they were safe and in the best possible hands. Mum's appetite and general well being have picked up due to the high-quality food which is nutritious and varied and they accommodate and even praise her dress sense which has got a bit odd lately, but she is warm and comfortable. We know she constantly wants to go home to her Mum and Dad but the staff gently and tactfully distract her with a cup of tea or a walk in the garden.

My darling mum was discharged from the hospital to the care of the staff at Bedford Charter House. She was sadly much more poorly than we were led to believe, and the wonderful staff at the care home were just magnificent.
They treated her with love and respect and tender care and made her last days comfortable.
They also treated my dad, my brother and me with compassion and kindness and, within the rules of Covid 19 legislation, were able to care for us too as we faced my mum's end of life.
There are some members of staff that went 'the extra mile', and they know who they are.
We really cannot thank the management and staff enough for their assistance at such a difficult and challenging time of our lives.

You are appreciated very much by this family.

My wife is a resident at Charter House in Bedford and I have recently had a month there after getting over shingles. I have a long history of Charter House, my mother was there for five years. I was on the board there for a number of years and now my wife is there. The facilities are excellent and the staff are carefully selected. The meals are of a high standard and they can provide for people with special diets. Regular meetings take place between management and families and daily care plans are available.

My mother-in-law was admitted to Charter House in June 2019 suffering with acute Alzheimer's. It was a very difficult decision for us to make as a family and the staff at Charter House could not have made the transition easier for us. Their kind and caring ways will be remembered by us always. Sadly my mother-in-law's stay only lasted until October 2020, but the care and attention received during those months were second to none. She was always treated with respect and came to be loved by all the staff who took it upon themselves to really get to know her character and what was important to her.

It was made particularly hard for us all in March of this year when the care home had to go into lock-down due to Coronavirus, and we were no longer able to visit, but we knew that 'our mum' was in safe hands and we didn't need to worry. I could not recommend Bedford Charter House more highly if I tried.

My mother has been a resident for over four years. We are so pleased that we found Charter House and cannot recommend it highly enough. All the staff are extremely friendly, courteous, professional and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble, and my mother has had outstanding care and friendly support, especially by the nurses and carers, who have provided utmost patience, dedication and understanding. The food is excellent always varied, very good quality, well-balanced, nutritious and freshly-prepared. The place is purpose-built - modern, light, very nicely laid out and decorated, with a spacious garden. My mother’s room is large with an en-suite and has a nice sunny outlook to the garden. There are lots of activities to keep everyone well-amused and occupied (at least in normal times). We get frequent updates and are always so happy and relieved to know that Mum is being looked after so well in these days, with Charter House staff even opening up video facilities to keep us in contact.

My mother was resident at the Bedford Charter House for 12-months and went in as a result of a week-long stay in respite. As time passed, she began to look on the care team as an extended family, and I also felt the same warmth towards myself and the rest of my family when we spent time with Mum at the home. She also enjoyed a wide range of activities organised by the dedicated team, which stimulated and entertained her. When she became very frail and was on end-of-life care, Mum and the rest of the family were supported throughout with kindness and the best care possible.

We found the staff extremely professional and friendly which ensured mother settled in easily.
The building itself is well laid out and maintained and has a lovely well looked after garden which was ideal for sitting out in the summer and quick refreshing dashes around in the wheelchair in winter!

The individual rooms are large and airy.

My mother spent five months in the Charter House. Throughout this time she was cared for with compassion and a high level of professionalism. When we had comments to make we were listened to and the comments were acted on. The recent purpose built home is ideal with a pleasant garden. The food was good and suitable for a fragile old lady. I would recommend this home to anyone lucky enough to find a place there.

My mother in law went to Charter House a couple of times a year from 2013 until January 2019 when she became a permanent resident. In that period of 6 years, her physical health deteriorated and she was diagnosed with dementia. Throughout she has always been treated with dignity and respect. The facilities are fit for purpose and of a high standard. Her room was spacious with an ensuite shower room. The home is well organised and a lot of the staff have been there throughout the time she went there. When she became a permanent resident, staff worked hard to settle her and encouraged her to join in with the activities which she enjoyed. Any issues we raised which were always of a minor nature, were followed up.

She passed away peacefully in her sleep in the care home receiving excellent care throughout.

The care the team gave my father in law was excellent. They not only cared for him well, but supported my mother in law through the difficult decision of placing him in care and throughout his final days.

Helping my father in law to all the activities he could manage meant his last months were stimulating and he was not just left sitting in a chair with nothing to do.

You treated us all as part of a family. I can’t thank you enough for the care you gave.

My mother was accepted at very short notice by Bedford Charter House for urgent respite care and the staff were very welcoming and professional. I was very impressed with the standard and cleanliness of my mother's room (which had a lovely ensuite toilet and shower) and the wide corridors and the communal rooms which had lovely views of the garden. The staff looked after my mother very well and took the trouble to get to know her interests and introduce her to other like-minded residents. There was an excellent programme of activities and the staff took an interest in my mother's favourite board game (which was new to them) and arranged for her to play this which my mother enjoyed very much. The food was very good and the staff even baked a cake for her birthday. When my mother was unfortunately taken ill the staff reacted quickly to call for medical advice and an ambulance. My mother enjoyed her stay and I would highly recommend this home to others.
