St Christopher's is an attractive residential home, small enough to feel welcoming and not institutional. The grounds are very pleasant for walking. The staff are outgoing and have time to spend with the residents. The food is fairly plain and good provision is made for those who need help eating or
special regimes. The accommodation is clean and safe. There is a good range of activities and trips to provide variety over the week. The carers definitely have the welfare of the residents as their priority.

A great organisation - really treat us like family. We appreciate the care and attention they give us and the individualised support they provide. The smaller size of the facility is just what we were looking for.

I had looked around a number of care homes trying to find the right place for my Mother. As soon as I walked into St Christopher's I knew it was the right place and I haven't been disappointed.
All the staff, whatever their line of work in this lovely home are kind, caring, compassionate, friendly,
attentive and professional. The residents are treated with respect and dignity no matter what their needs and nothing is too much bother. The owners and staff work so hard to help the residents to feel like this is their 'home' and for them to be happy and content, and importantly to still enjoy life.
I always said to my Mother I would never ask her to move anywhere that I wouldn't be happy to live in, and I would very happily live here. It is such a relief to know that my Mother is being so well looked after in a safe, happy, caring environment.
Reply from David Tanner, Director at St Christopher'sDear Georgina, many thanks for your kind words. I will make sure the staff read them. Best regards David

Mum has been at St Christopher's for 18 months and during this time she has received the utmost care and kindness. The staff treat her with dignity and constant attention to her changing needs. There is such a warm atmosphere in the home, staff are always welcoming and supportive when we visit -
which we are encouraged to do at any time of day or night. Staff continuity has greatly helped Mum to feel secure and confident.

I attend St Davids on a regular basis. The staff are always helpful, cheerful, courteous and respectful to visitors and residents. The building is kept clean and well maintained and is in beautiful surroundings. It is definitely a home that I would consider for my mother

A supportive and caring environment. Staff kind and respectful and attentive to individual needs and interests. Maybe a little short staffed at times. A healthy and varied menu and daily choice available. Feels like a large home rather than an institution or hotel. Lovely grounds.

Our mother was made to feel very welcome when she moved in to St. Christophers. She suffered from dementia and had just lost her husband after over 65 years of marriage. The staff at St.Christopher's could not have been more caring, loving, gentle and attentive throughout her two years stay. This
applies to all the staff including the cooks, domestic staff, gardeners, maintenance staff, activity girls, hairdresser etc and of course the incredible carers. It was like a family.

My brother, sister and I were always made welcome at any time of day or night. Sometimes I felt our family, including grand children and little great grandchildren, sometimes seemed to take the place over. This was welcomed in the home and the other residents seemed to enjoy the hustle and bustle and seeing the children and babies.

My mother's room was always immaculate and my mother, as with the other residents, always looked fresh, clean and well presented.

Unfortunately mum's health deteriorated and in her final days her care was exemplary. We cannot get over the genuine, gentle care she was given and the utmost respect shown to her at all times. We were able to stay with her at night if we wished and the staff gave us huge amounts of support right to the end.

Thank you so much all of you.

Since my elderly mum, who has Alzheimers, moved to St Christophers in May 2014 she has gained a new lease of life. The staff are kind, caring and professional and treat my mum with great dignity and respect. They see the real person that she is and do not talk down to her. My mum has been able to
take up drawing and flower arranging again as well as other craft activities. She had given up all her hobbies while living alone at home. Her physical and medical needs are well cared for, which gives me great peace of mind. I always feel comfortable visiting her - little things like seeing her always being well dressed and watching her laugh over a game of Rummikub make a huge difference. I'm always welcome, no matter what time I visit, and staff always have time to talk to me. They serve us tea and cake so we can sit and chat in her room. The rooms are kept clean and warm and attractive, and my mum's room always looks how I would like it to be, with her personal pictures and furniture. The entertainment staff do a wonderful job with trips out, so that I've even been able to go to Windsor Castle with my mum, and with lots of activities indoors. Making the decision to help my mum move to residential care was one of the hardest decisions I have made, but St Christophers has been the best place I could have imagined for her.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.939)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.939) out of 10 for St Christopher's is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.964 for St Christopher's is calculated as follows: ( (218 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 225 Ratings = 4.964
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Christopher's is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
