My mother settled into the home very quickly thanks largely to the kind, supportive staff. My family has been very impressed with the standard of care, the food, activities, accommodation and surroundings at Culwood. We feel we most definitely made the right choice having visited several homes before

I have found Culwood House to be a wonderful place. It has provided fantastic care for my mother and has adapted extremely well to her changing needs.
The staff are all caring and compassionate. They seem to genuinely care for my mum. This means everything to me as I cannot provide that care for her.
To know she is safe and that her needs are being met in a kind and considerate way gives me peace of mind.
When I have had to talk about difficult things to do with my mum I have found the manager to be so easy to talk to. I feel they have gone the extra mile in the care of my mother and I will never forget that.

All the staff at Culwood House have been wonderful caring for my mother. They have been patient and understanding of her needs. They have been very supportive of her family and very welcoming to us all. They keep us informed of anything we need to know and have always treated us all as part of the Culwood
family. They have done everything they possibly could do to support us through very difficult times, and my mother has felt so at home and happy about living there since she moved in. I love the little things they do that make special occasions memorable for the residents. Everything is clean and well cared for without being that awful institutional characterless environment. My mother likes the homeliness style of all the room and it is so nice she has her own paintings and things sound her in her room. I couldn’t bear her to be anywhere else it could never match the loving and happy home she has at Culwood.

Exceptional care home providing a very high quality of service with a very caring attitude to residents. My mother has been here for the last year as now has Dementia. The staff are extremely patient with her and ensure she is involved in as much as possible in the home. I do not really know what I
would do without Culwood House giving me the assurance that all my mum's needs are being met and she is always made to feel safe and loved.

My mother has experienced a standard of care that we are extremely pleased with.
The staff have also supported my mother through a very significant bereavement in a sensitive and thoughtful way.
The team are extremely well led
and there is a strong sense of working towards providing a happy and stimulating experience through a programme of activities and with close attention to the individual needs of residents.
As a family, we have felt welcomed and we are able to communicate with staff and my mother regularly.

My mum has been a resident at Culwood House Care Home since 2016. It has been wonderful for her and for us. Culwood is the closest you can get to being at home with its caring and friendly environment. Nothing is too much trouble and all the staff are kind and thoughtful without exception. My mum is
now nearing the end of her life (she’s 95) and I feel truly blessed that she moved here when she did.
When Mum was able to she thoroughly enjoyed joining in with activities (especially the musical ones) and spending time with other residents in the lounge and conservatory. She’s had a number of memorable birthdays here, including last years during lockdown. Culwood provided a wonderful afternoon tea in their summerhouse for Mum, my husband and myself.
I would unreservedly recommend Culwood to others looking for a warm, welcoming care home and feel very grateful for everything they have done for Mum over the last five years.

This is a beautiful care home with dedicated staff. My mother has been here for quite a few years now and has had the best care one could wish for. The staff are very patient and kind, even when Mum can be a bit difficult. I could not have found a better home for her. The house and grounds are lovely
and I know the food is excellent. Just wish I could stop by for lunch and join Mum but lack of time sometimes gets in the way.

I have been very happy with the care given to my mother, she is treated with dignity and given care and support when needed. The home is always spotlessly clean. She has a beautiful garden also to sit out in the summer. The food is homemade and wholesome.

This is my first year here and I feel I have settled very well overall considering I have been on my own for over forty years. Therefore I am more than happy to spend time on my own. We have had over two years of experience with Culwood House and cannot speak highly enough of the manager and her team. Two of my father's cousins had no children so we helped firstly, the older one into Culwood House, but sadly after 18 months there, she passed away aged 93. By then the younger one
was struggling with Alzheimer's and we had no hesitation in placing her there as well.

I have settled in very well here. The staff are always kind and helpful and always try to accommodate my needs. There are a range of activities and trips which I can participate in. I particularly like the knitting sessions and the visits from the magician. I feel safe and healthy.

I visit my father at Culwood House once or twice a month for a few hours - I always find him well cared for; healthy and in relatively sound mind. His care is of a high level and the personnel and staff excellent.
His room, however, is very small and if there is a single drawback to his quality of
life it is the overly constricted space.

We know that your father needs a larger room, but unfortunately, there hasn't been one available which I realise is frustrating for him. Unfortunately, the building is old and has been converted for its current use so we are limited with room sizes. The rooms he has been offered since he's been here haven't been much bigger sadly.

The lunches are ok but the evening meal is inadequate and could be improved by being a cooked meal. I do enjoy talking to the staff, but wish there was greater opportunity for conversation with other residents at mealtimes. I enjoy the poetry activity but feel there could be more things like that.

I have been here for just over a year and have been made to feel very welcome. The care I am provided with is very good and the staff are really kind and patient. It feels more like a home than a care home. This is due to the many small details such as the soft furnishings and fresh flowers around the entire house to the way the residents come together to eat their meals around one big table in the dining room. It is always clean and I really feel the staff know
my father and try hard to accommodate his needs with patience and kindness.

It is so pleasant walking about here. My previous home had at least three sets of stairs, you couldn't go anywhere without using a staircase. Here we have a chair for the stair but I rarely use it.

Culwood House is an amazing care home. All the carers are friendly, helpful and kind. The residents are all very well looked after. The house itself is beautiful with a lovely, well-kept garden. If your relative (resident) wants to join in activities, there is always something to do on a daily basis.
The management of the home is excellent and communication with them is always easy, very clear and sympathetic.

Rachel

Rachel Elton-Jones

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2008

Rachel Elton-Jones is responsible for the overall management of Culwood House and its employees and has been working at Culwood House since 2008. She is Anita Larkin’s daughter and grew up in Culwood House’s sister care home, White Hill House, from the age of six. Before working at Culwood House she worked for Morgan Stanley in Canary Wharf for 8 years and prior to that she worked for Willis in the City for 4 years. Rachel holds a QCF level 5 diploma in health and social care, an ILM leadership and management award and a BA hons degree in Modern Languages and European studies. She undertakes training on a regular basis to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. She is a member of the Skills for Care registered managers’ network, the My Home Life initiative and the Bucks registered managers’ network which helps her to keep abreast of changes within the sector.
