The Old School House was built in 1874 by the Rothschild family and was used as a school divine services on Sundays for boys and girls of the village from 1902. The Old School House was established into a residential home for the elderly in 1984.

The present owner took over the business in 2006 and the home received extensive refurbishment. Care was taken to restore and maintain the original wonderful character of the building, including keeping the magnificent, original archways stained glass window chapel doors. There is a huge lounge and dining room and the home has been upgraded and improved yearly, which is ongoing. The team aim to provide a friendly, caring home with 11 bedrooms.

The team at The Old School House do not want to impose any routines and acknowledge that residents come from all walks of life and have made valuable contributions to society in their own unique ways. The team would love to get to know you and learn about your past life experiences.

The Old School House has a part time Activities Co-ordinator and offers a variety of games and activities. They also offer residents daily walks to the local shops as well as focusing on one to one activities.

The team like to get family members involved as much as they, including family parties throughout the year. They always make every effect to accommodate residents' religious beliefs and practices and currently hold a service in the home once a month for those who have requested this service.

The Old School House has a local GP practice that provides care for residents as well as access to district nurses and other professionals as and when this is required.

The team offer 24 hour care support and assistance, creating positive relationships between staff and families and residents to built trust loyalty and respect.

My mother has just recently spent 6 weeks on respite care with the Old School House. Mum has advanced dementia and we were apprehensive as to how she would cope. But she had a wonderful time. She blossomed from the moment she arrived. We saw mum happy, entertained and chatty. The stimulation helped
bring her back to finding herself a bit and it was lovely to see. The home was clean and the staff very helpful and caring. Each member of staff i found to be friendly and interested in every resident. The food always looked delicious. It is a small home which gives it a really cosy family feel. There were daily activities which everyone enjoyed. The owner was very nice and very helpful and willing to help in any way she could.
I would definitely recommend the old school house for anyone looking for a carehome for an elderly person.

Thank goodness my auntie is a resident of The Old School House where it is clear to see the high quality care, safe and comfortable environment at this care home. It is always clean and warm and the staff show respect and kindness with daily activities. I often see the GP there checking on the residents
needs etc. I was delighted and encouraged to bring my toy poodle along which is lovely for my auntie. What an amazing job the staff do!

My mother was very nervous about moving to a care home but was not eating, taking her medication or generally looking after herself
and refused any help from carers etc
Since going into the Old School Care Home she has settled well, is thriving and is happy.
The owner/Manager is available to talk
to at any time and visiting times are relaxed. Very pleased with the care she is getting.

My mother resides at the mentioned home and I have to say how much she loves her time at Old School House Longwick. It is a very clean and friendly home with very nice and caring staff. On Sunday 26th Jan 2025 she celebrated her 100th birthday and the home had a very nice party. Mum saw the whole of
her family and thoroughly enjoyed the day and buffet. A lovely big cake. Keep up the good work.

When Mum got to the point that living in her own home was no longer viable, we feel fortunate that we found the Old School House - the staff are very kind and caring, and it has been notable that there has been little turnover in the team over the past year. This has helped Mum to settle and feel looked
after, and it says a lot for the staff and management of Old School House because the turnover of carers can so often be a problem in other care situations. We are very appreciative of the care and attention that Old School House delivers.

Mum has had a rocky few weeks one way or another but Old School House have helped mum recover and settle again. Not ideal that mum will be in a care home for Christmas but feel that at least mum will be in good hands.

My father moved to the Old School House November 2024 after a long stay in hospital. The aesthetic of the house is beautiful. The staff team are very welcoming and friendly. When my Mum's respite placement ran into difficulties, upon recommendation I contacted 'The Old School House' to see if they could help. It was all very last minute and I was beyond fortunate they were able to offer her a place. It is a small, intimate home and everybody there could not have been more
kind, helpful, and caring of her and supportive of me. Mum was well cared for, respected, and a valued member of the home during her time there and I cannot thank them enough for the care and compassion shown to my Mum.

What a relief to find such a lovely spot. We appreciated the enormous flexibility during Mum's admission. The staff are all so kind. The place feels more homely than others visited. We feel very fortunate to have found this little gem.

Staff are always very friendly, and they treat Mum with great care and dignity. They are also very accommodating when Dad wants to visit. It is a small home, which is what was required for Mum. She always seems very content and looks very tidy and presentable.

Our dear beloved mother spent the last nearly eight years of her life suffering from vascular dementia at The Old School House in Longwick. It is a residential home that specialises in caring for the elderly, especially those with dementia, treating residents with much compassion and professionalism.
For
our mum, the care she received over the period that she was resident was excellent, with good, nutritious food cooked daily, which our mum really enjoyed. We were also able to visit unannounced at any time of day.
In the last week of her life, Mum was given palliative care; I was with her when she passed away peacefully in a place that was home for her. She was as happy as she could be in the loving atmosphere of the Old School House.
We are eternally grateful for all of the excellent loving care she received from all of the amazing staff who kept her safe, secure and loved.
It will be very strange not to visit this lovely home where Mum was treated with dignity.

We had a tour of the Old School House and felt it was the right place for Mum. Family run and only eleven residents, it felt like more of a home than the larger purpose-built facilities we had already visited. The staff are friendly. Dad visits regularly, and despite initial reservations, he is reassured
that she is safe and well cared for; they make him welcome and even feed him if he’s there at meal times, and having a sweet tooth, he loves the tea and cake in the afternoon! Mum is a challenging person - dementia is a cruel disease, and we appreciate the patience that is needed to care for her. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could.

The care that my mother receives from all staff at the Old School House is exceptional. All her needs are constantly cared for by very professional staff with a lovely personal touch. She is very impressed with the food, as I am. Meals are always the highlight of her day. Her room is comfortable, warm

The Old School House is a lovely, small, family-run care home, well-organised with caring staff and excellent communication at all times.
It may lack some of the facilities of the larger purpose-built residential homes, but we’ve found the smaller size and personalised approach make up for this, and
our mother is much happier and settled here in this ‘homely’ setting than she was before.
We have been very happy with The Old School House and the care it provides for our mum.

When my sister moved into the Old School House it was way above anything I could expect the manager went out of her way for us all.
Since my sister has been at the Old School House she has improved so much in her general health, she seems well cared for and all the staff are very caring towards her.
My sister has a lot of friends and family that come and see her at the Old School House, everyone has commented on how lovely the Old School House is very personal and the small size is wonderful.
I cannot fault the staff for the care and the management we have been very lucky to have found the Old School House and there are no visiting hours which is great we can go and see my sister anytime.

Nahida Arif is the proprietor/registered manager she has over 16 years of experience working in care. Nahida also worked as a carer for 3 years having hands-on experience. She has completed her level 4 in care as well as the registered manager's award. Nahida has a vast set of skills in care and healthcare problems for the residents are sorted out very quickly due to her long-term experience in the care sector. Equipped with over 10 years of experience in managing this enables her to run the business to a high standard with an excellent set of skills across the sector. Nahida also has a hand on approach at all times and is not scared of rolling up her sleeves to get down to work and cover shifts when short on the floor. Nahida also offers an open-door policy .

Zunaira Ferozdin

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2020

Zunaira started working in the care sector in 2020 after coming out of retail. She wanted to do something more rewarding and joined the old school house working on the floor and covering shifts. She worked as a carer and soon she became a valuable member of the staff. She completed her level 4 in care and is now working towards her level 5 in adult care.


She has put into place computer-based software care plans which ensure all information is recorded correctly and quickly on devices. It also frees up time for carers from the old handwritten reports and notes.


Zunaira also manages the healthcare needs of all the service users as well as medication needs and audits.
She also works alongside the home manager to ensure that all residents are getting a high standard of care. She also keeps the families informed of any healthcare changes. or support required for the residents
