My mother has now been at Pratt House for 8 weeks after the breakdown of her relationship caused by her dementia.
It has not been an easy transition but the experienced team at Pratts House has guided our whole family to the now stable situation.
I remain astonished by the variety of activities that are put on for all the residents to enjoy irrespective of their level of disability.
Whenever we visit we are updated as to her well-being and anything she has been asking for.

I would recommend everyone to consider Pratt House when looking for a safe caring environment for a loved one in need.

Much improved activities for all residents who are more engaged than before. This definitely applies to my mother who regularly participates. The use of social media provides a really useful medium for friends and relatives who might not be aware of what takes place in terms of entertainment. The activities are varied and certainly seem to provide stimulation.
Care home staff are quick to spot medical issues requiring attention from community nurse or local GP, who reassuringly, makes regular visits. These issues have been flagged up to me as and when my mother needs treatment.
Improved clothes washing regime is noticeable, although occasionally clothes do seem to disappear.

Rooms are cleaned on a regular basis and the home overall has a nice feel to it.

My husband moved into Pratt House almost a year ago during the pandemic. I am therefore not, in these difficult times, fully au fait with all the facilities and our markings reflect this. However, when visiting or speaking with him on the phone, I have been very much impressed by the care, kindness and respect shown to him by the staff. He is always well turned out and clearly has a good rapport with his carers. He has said he cannot speak too highly of his treatment while I breathe a sigh of relief that I have found such an excellent and well-managed home.

My wife has been a resident Pratt House for almost two and half years, and I have been pleased with the care and attention that she has received throughout this period. She has been well looked after and kept comfortable by capable and caring staff and has remained generally happy throughout. She likes the staff at the staff like her!

My mother has been at Pratt House for nearly ten years, and during this time, has been extremely well looked after. The current situation has made some things very difficult, but I am satisfied that all precautions have been undertaken and that she is safe.

My aunt is really happy in the home. She feels very cared for and is always telling us how lovely all the staff are. They are good at the small details, for example, she loves the fact that the catering staff regularly top up her fruit bowl, the cleaning in her room is to a really high standard, and she really appreciates the gardens that are kept so well. As a family, we feel that had she been on her own during this COVID time she would have really struggled with the isolation, but in the home, she is well cared for and has people around her. We have been able to visit in the garden once a week for a timed slot and this has worked well, giving her the contact time with family whilst keeping her safe.

All the staff that we come into contact with are pleasant smiling people, attentive and helpful to mummy. Knowing the correct protocol-client to staff.

Mummy is really happy, she loves her room which is filled with her own treasures, paintings and photo's of family and friends over 104 years. Thank you, everyone.

My room was extremely comfortable and the food was always tasty and well presented. A range of thoughtful activities were provided. I enjoyed my respite stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

I am an 80-year-old entertainer and I now sing in quite a few local care homes. I have been visiting a friend, who has been in the home for 7 years, but unfortunately died recently.

I have found during the times I have visited and also entertained, that out of all the homes I have visited, Pratt House is the best available and holds an excellent standard of care and hygiene.

A very brief version of a letter to this home on leaving.
We are not moving mother out of choice but out of necessity. Several meetings for improvement plans. Never been followed through.
I had to mince mums food and feed her daily.
Prescribed antibiotics for a UTI, capsules that she cannot swallow. Capsules put in her mouth to be spat out 5 minutes later. I have to insist on liquid meds,
Inability to manage increasing incontinence. The smell of urine in room, the introduction of pads and full nappies. Many times I have arrived and asked for my mothers nappy to be changed, it being full of urine or faeces of both.
Many times I have arrived in the late afternoon and washed my mother's lunch from her face.
Drink on her table with mould thereon.
My daughter's having to bathe her.
Cleaning of room - very poorly kept - my own cleaning kit in room to clean.
Nutrition - Need a whole review to detail inappropriate or inedible food provided.

Lack of information. Family only informed if we ask.

Mum has stayed at Pratt House on a number of occasions over the years for respite. The level of care is outstanding and very much bespoke to accommodate her individual needs.

The bedrooms are spacious with en-suite facilities ensuring privacy, whilst communal areas are used for activities and dining. Families are welcomed with a cup of tea and the Conservatory provides a perfect space for a game of dominoes or Jigsaw Puzzle. Easter activities included hatching chicks, which my Grandaughter especially enjoyed when visiting her Great Grandma!

A podiatrist visits regularly in addition to a hairdresser.

The environment provides us with the reassurance that Mum is in safe hands allowing us to take a break without concern.

All of the staff are excellent but in particular, the Manager who has supported us as a family over the years for which we shall be eternally grateful.

I would recommend Pratt House without hesitation.

My father stayed at Pratt House for a weeks respite and he had a wonderful time during his stay. I chose Pratt House based on a previous review on a local site where praise for the warmth and care of residents from the staff was obvious. Dad and I too found it welcoming, happy and kindness was apparent. Rooms and communal areas were clean. The food is cooked freshly and dignity to all. I was able to stay for lunch with dad and it was such a lovely environment to stay in. Security was excellent. In fact, I can't fault Pratt House in any way. Dad will happily return. Thank you ALL.

I would like to thank the staff of the Abbeyfield care home at Pratt House, for their excellent care and attention to my father, from July 2017 when he moved in, up to his death in February 2018. The manager and his team kept me fully up to date at all times and were immensely supportive. I never had any doubts that Dad was being well looked after and he was able to live his last few months in a stress-free environment. He was well fed and the staff liaised well with his GP and other medical professionals. It was a well joined up operation. I also noticed that the children of other patients were equally comfortable with the way matters were handled.

Thank you to the Manager and his team, who are hard-working, dedicated people who should be readily acknowledged for their efforts.

Over the 5 months of my sister's residence in Pratt House, we have been very satisfied and pleased with all aspects of the care and support she has receives from each member of staff. The manager, in spite of the many calls on his time, is always available and the staff have been considerate of my sister's needs. This was always going to be a huge challenge for her as she moved from the family home where she had lived for 75 years to living in a single room. The staff were aware of this and could not have been more considerate.

Both my mother and my father were in the Pratt House care home in Amersham. My father suffered from dementia, my mother didn't but was frail. Not only did my parents think that the home was a brilliant place to be (and neither wanted to go into a home) but my own impression was of a home that really cared about the people there and always did everything within their power to make the residents happy and comfortable. All the staff, including the manager and the assistant manager, are exceptional and the care they deliver outstanding. This is a care home that really does care. The rooms, all with en-suite, are very good. It is though the staff who really make this place the outstanding place it is. When it became necessary to put my parents into a home I was nervous ..................... the manager and his Pratt House staff proved how good a care home can be .................... and this one is exceptionally good!

My Mother was a resident at Pratt House in Amersham from July last year until her death in May of this. She was a very independent woman and did not take to the move into a home easily but the welcome she received on moving in was noteworthy. The staff were very understanding and helpful.

This applied not only to the management and care staff but included the domestic and catering staff who went out of their way to make her and us when we visited to feel at home. Sadly the dementia onset was rapid and for too long my Mother wasn't the easiest of residents but that didn't dent the compassion or care showed by the staff.

My mother resided in Pratt House for ten months. She was not an easy resident, at first because she was reluctant to go into a care home, and latterly as her dementia advanced. She was always treated with respect, affection, and unfailing good humour. She also benefited from care of a high standard, from the early days to end of life.

Pratt House offers an attractive environment, with a lovely garden and endearing proximity to the Chesham tube line. The staff are friendly and considerate, and invariably cheerful. There is an appealing informality about the place, and its management, which is accessible but not intrusive. It was a pleasant and friendly place to visit.

Ultimately, a care home must be judged on its standard of care, and on this count Pratt House was outstanding. We are deeply appreciative of all the efforts made by the staff there.

I just wanted to write and say a massive thank you to all your staff that looked after my grandparents.
Unfortunately, they were only with you about 6 weeks, but your staff made their stay and for the family visiting so welcoming and caring.
My grandparents also kept saying how good the food was - proper home cooked tasty food.
I could phone the home at any time day or night and would always have a caring, honest voice at the end of the phone. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
The home manager is wonderful! So helpful, empathetic and friendly - a true asset to the home.

Once again - please pass on a massive thank you to all the staff for the wonderful work you all do - showing true compassion to all their residents.
