Sandwood Care Home

from John U (Friend of Resident) published on 14 May 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My regular visits to the Care Home have always been welcoming by the staff and I was impressed by the hygiene standards throughout the Home. My pal of over 50 years, Michael is happily enjoying his stay for the current 6th year and whilst he may not wish to take part in the majority of the professional
events, which are organised by the in-house staff his requirements are given the best attention with ease.
The Home and the staff are doing all that is demanded by an individual and elderly guest and I am awarding the Home 5 stars for its care and hospitality and may the achievements continue for the rest of my pal's life.

Speedwell Court has been a blessing to us since our mum became a resident. We have been able to work together with staff so that our mum receives person-centred care. The management and carers are always willing to listen and take into consideration family suggestions, ideas and deal with concerns.
We are able to rest assured because we can see that our mum is being very well looked after.

Abbeyfield House Bramhall

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I can't praise the staff at Abbeyfield highly enough for everything they've done for my Mum since she moved in at the beginning of February. It was a massive change for her as not only had she left the house she'd lived in for 50 years but also completely changed location. Everyone was so welcoming
and caring and took time to get to know her and her needs. 6 weeks on and it's wonderful to see her so happy. She joins in all the activities and has only good things to say about the food, staff and her room. If there was a 6th star I'd select it. Thanks Abbeyfield for all you do - you make such a positive difference not just for the residents but for their families as well.

The staff at Sandwood are always friendly and welcoming and relate to my friend with warmth and kindness. She is always dressed well in 'matching' outfits which suit her. The activities organiser is great - she is warm, friendly, enthusiastic and energetic, and my friend particularly seems to enjoy
the many and varied musical activities.

My mother was made to feel very welcome here right from the start. Her every needs were met and the experience was more like a high class hotel than a care home. At that time she was active and involved in the last few days before she passed away, everyone was so kind to us all and she was treated with
respect and dignity. The staff supported us through her last days too, and we were able to focus on her, enabling her to leave us peacefully.
Reply from Ian Nancollas, Digital Marketing Team at Abbeyfield Bradbury HouseThank you so much for sharing these kind words. It was a privilege for our team to care for your mother and to support your family during such a difficult time.

We are glad we could provide a comfortable environment and the peace of mind you needed to focus on her. We will be sure to pass your thanks along to the staff; they will be very touched to hear your feedback.

Our deepest condolences to you and your family.

We would highly recommend Abbeyfield! The layout of the building and residents front doors are really well thought out. Staff are all amazing, so involved with the residents to keep them active and hydrated. Dad stayed for 2 weeks respite and returned back home much stronger; mentally and physically.
In addition we really appreciate the invite to come and join activities, even when dad is now not in respite. He is still talking about his afternoon on the ice and has his gold medal on his walker. Many thanks to all involved.
Reply from Ian Nancollas, Digital Marketing Team at Abbeyfield WinnershThank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! The "afternoon on the ice" was a highlight for everyone involved.

Dad stayed at Abbeyfield for 2 weeks respite. I was given a tour of the home and grounds prior to his stay and was very impressed with the well thought out facilities and cheerful, bright atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.
There are always activities
for the residents to take part in. Dad was even taken to the ice rink.
We were happy knowing he was well cared for and Mum had a much needed rest.
I have no hesitation in recommending Abbeyfield. Thank you so much.

Mum is totally dependent upon the ministrations of the care team as she is bed bound and on palliative care. The members of the care team are caring and conscientious and diligent whenever they attend her. Mum is kept as comfortable as she can be and I see real compassion towards her from the staff.
Contributions to her comfort also come from the laundry for her changes of her bedwear and bedding, from the cleaning staff for keeping her room so fresh and for the kitchen staff for all her refreshments. It feels like a wonderful team effort, for which my deepest thanks.

My mum is very happy here as it is very clean, homely and the staff genuinely care. It also offers fresh home cooked food prepared on site, sometimes from the gardens, offering a great choice of menus. Fresh cooked food is so important when you are a permanent resident as anticipation of any meal is
vital when you are homebound and it offers more flexibility. As long as the food remains this way, I would heartily recommend Hill House.
Reply from Jenna Heynes, Car Home Manager at Hill HouseThank you for these lovely words. Mum is really a pleasure and we are more than happy to have her with us. We will pass on your kind words to the team.

We can't recommend Downing House enough. Dad's been there for just over three years and it's been brilliant. Being a smaller home the staff have more time to spend with the clients, and they genuinely do care for them all as though it was their own relatives. They have regular entertainment, summer
fairs, and go out to concerts and relatives are always welcome. The communication between staff and relatives and through the home with the GP (who visits once a week) is exceptional. Everywhere is clean and bright, and it feels like a true 'home' not an institution. Dad loves it there, which is wonderful.

All the staff are friendly and work very hard. But a special mention to the cook. Not only is she an excellent cook and knows what all the residents like to eat, she also cuts the residents' hair in her break time and made sure that everybody who needed their hair doing was done in December because
as she said everybody wants to look and feel good at Christmas! Fantastic, lovely person.

Having had experience of other local homes for my husband and father,I have found Bradbury House to be the best. The staff are welcoming nothing too much trouble. My mother at 95 is well looked after .The home is clean ,tidy and the food is very good. The only concern my mum has is the turnover of staff
she finds it very unsettling and it aggravates her anxiety. I understand this is out of the control of management except to say that they should ensure that agency staff are fully conversant with the Bradbury regime and residents.

My partner stayed at Abbeyfield for a period of respite care. As it was our very first experience, I was extremely anxious. However, ALL the staf were incredibly caring, helpful, experienced, and friendly, while always remaining highly professional. They made the transition as smooth and reassuring
as possible for us. We truly have no words to fully express our gratitude to every one of them.

Thanks to the circular layout of the buildings, the home feels bright, open, and welcoming from the moment you walk in. Both the rooms and communal areas are clean and well maintained.

A big THANK YOU to everyone for looking after my partner with such genuine care and kindness.
