Mum was sadly only a resident at Abbeyfield Speedwell for 9 days. However the care that mum received at every level from the admin staff, medical staff, housekeeping and nursing staff was excellent in every respect. The staff were very kind and caring to me as well, and I was without a doubt that when
I was not there the excellent care continued.

Speedwell carers go above and beyond to make residents' lives as happy and fulfilled as they can be.
Birthdays are always celebrated with a cake provided by Speedwell. Mum was 94 last week and the carers made her day extra special with accommodating a good numbers of us visitors, providing a room
for us and generally making her afternoon memorable with kind words and deeds. Thank you so much.

We used Downing House Care Home for respite for my mum for 3 weeks and it was an excellent experience. The staff are wonderful, they engaged brilliantly with mum and kept me updated and reassured throughout her stay. This is the third bout of respite we have experienced and the second care home we have
used, and I have to say, the standard of care here was night and day. I didn't worry about mum here. Mum is quite active, she likes to potter and be active and they encouraged her to just be herself and keep her routine. They have a great programme of activities, and from what I saw, a lovely team who care about the residents. And refreshing to see permanent staff and not agency. All residents were clean and well-dressed when I visited. Downing House may not be as aesthetically pleasing as some other homes, but it has heart and it cares. It's a shame the third-party top-up is too high for our family to sustain long-term; otherwise, it would have been a contender for permanent care

The staff in all roles and positions are very kind and friendly, using residents' names and knowledge of their preferences and needs to care for them with compassion and skill.
Recent additions to the ground and activities teams are improving the environment and experience for residents and made the
home a pleasant place to live.
I am confident that my mother feels secure and comfortable, and despite considerable dementia, appreciates the care and contact with others that she receives.

Abbeyfield's is a very caring care home who has done everything they can to make my Mum feel at home and settled in. All the staff generally really do care about the Residents and their needs - and will do whatever they can to make it the Residents feel at home. Its like its own little community! Mum
was admitted back in April 2025 and has certainly kept them on their toes but they do look after her which is all we could ever ask for. They really do listen to feedback and take onboard what families have said. They have also recently started organising day trips for some of the residents which have been really varied and enjoyable for Mum when she's wanted to go.

My Nan moved to Speedwell Court early 24. From the start the care was exceptional. The home itself has amazing facilities including a cafe, cinema and various activities rooms. The most important thing for my Nan though was the garden. A market gardener when she was young, she had grown fresh produce
and used it in her cooking all her life and Speedwell had the same ethos. They encouraged and facilitated her continuing to do what she loved safely. She grew vegetables there and there was even a 'cooking station' set up for her to make fresh pasta and sauce with the chefs acting as her sous chefs! Incredibly individualised and person centred care! There were events for every holiday and most week ends with games, visiting bands, even a visiting farm! My Nan was very social and loved to laugh and thoroughly enjoyed the activities but even more importantly she was cared for by the staff holistically, with kindness and respect and with her wishes at the forefront of any decisions made.

My husband was admitted into Abbeyfields at short notice and they helped me over and above with transport and emotional support.
He settled in well and was looked after amazingly .
Interaction with staff was excellent and nothing was too difficult to arrange for him. As expected I was overly concerned
for his welfare but the team kept me informed and all my questions were answered quickly.
The home looked after him so well and the support they gave me, his wife, was amazing.
The home is a special dementia home and as such has set up rooms and floors to offer freedom for dementia patients and is its unique selling point.
I cannot speak highly enough of the deputy Manager, and the exceptional standard of care, leadership and compassion he brings to his role. He consistently went above and beyond for my husbands stay-his unwavering commitment to resident wellbeing is second to none.

My father was welcomed at Hill House three months ago after a long stay in hospital. Although disoriented at first he is now settling in thanks to the wonderful care he receives. All of the staff are very kind and considerate towards his needs and his wellbeing. He is encouraged to participate in activities
and can do as much or as little as he chooses. He appreciates the lovely rural setting and beautiful large gardens in the quiet of the countryside and of course the outstanding variety of great meals. He recently celebrated his birthday, the staff brought him a cake and sang Happy Birthday which he deeply appreciated and talked about all afternoon.
I viewed 15 care homes for dad and am so happy I found Hill House. I highly recommend this home.

After 2 years of visiting my husband in the care home, I appreciate all the hard work it takes to keep the occupants happy & well cared for. The staff read to them & play games etc & have led parties in the lovely gardens. The food is excellent & nothing is too much trouble. The staff also helped me

Since the day, me and my wife visited this center to find out possible places for my great grand aunt, we have been very impressed by the quality of service, staff friendliness and the overall management. The customer relations manager made us feel welcomed during our first visit and explained everything
in detail. My aunt's transfer to care home was handled very smoothly without putting us under pressure to show or prove her financial ability to support her stay. Since the move my aunt has settled in well as staff is very caring and friendly.
They are very attentive and keep us informed about my aunt.
I highly recommend this care home, which is well within the reach for anyone living in Woodley, Wokingham and nearby areas. From my experience I can say that the family members who may have to use the care home will definitely be looked after very well.

It was an absolute relief when we visited Abbeyfield. The Manager was extremely helpful and welcoming, putting us to ease explaining everything and taking us for a tour. They were not rushed for the finance part but only focused on the wellbeing and settling the resident. The staff at Abbeyfield are
the highlight of this care home. Whenever I have visited my resident, the staff has always greeted us very well and we see them very helpful, cheerful and active around every resident. The facilities are perfect and the rooms are designed to make the resident feel safe, secure and also in touch with nature. It does not feel claustrophobic as every room as an outlet to outdoors and have a nice view of the garden. The activities are programmed as per the interests and abilities of the resident. Its a lively atmosphere at Abbeyfield and gives the best elderly care to the loved ones.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband has just enjoyed another 10 day respite care in Halcyon House. As usual the entire staff have been unfailingly helpful, cheerful and kind. He is a fussy eater, the chef pandered to his likes! Much appreciated. He found the entertainment well thought out and interesting. A problem with his
catheter was dealt with quickly and efficiently. All all, another happy and satisfactory stay. Thank you.
