Very busy 62 bed care home for dementia patients currently awaiting new manager. Good facilities overall and kind attentive staff. Management not happy with current catering company but they are seeking to address this. Outside grounds recently improved and visitors welcomed 24/7

We would highly recommend Abbeyfield! The layout of the building and residents front doors are really well thought out. Staff are all amazing, so involved with the residents to keep them active and hydrated. Dad stayed for 2 weeks respite and returned back home much stronger; mentally and physically. In addition we really appreciate the invite to come and join activities, even when dad is now not in respite. He is still talking about his afternoon on the ice and has his gold medal on his walker. Many thanks to all involved.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We are absolutely delighted to hear that your father's two-week respite stay at Abbeyfield was so impactful. We are especially thrilled that he's still showing off his gold medal on his walker! The "afternoon on the ice" was a highlight for everyone involved.

Dad stayed at Abbeyfield for 2 weeks respite. I was given a tour of the home and grounds prior to his stay and was very impressed with the well thought out facilities and cheerful, bright atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.
There are always activities for the residents to take part in. Dad was even taken to the ice rink.
We were happy knowing he was well cared for and Mum had a much needed rest.

I have no hesitation in recommending Abbeyfield. Thank you so much.

Overall Experience

My partner stayed at Abbeyfield for a period of respite care. As it was our very first experience, I was extremely anxious. However, ALL the staf were incredibly caring, helpful, experienced, and friendly, while always remaining highly professional. They made the transition as smooth and reassuring as possible for us. We truly have no words to fully express our gratitude to every one of them.

Thanks to the circular layout of the buildings, the home feels bright, open, and welcoming from the moment you walk in. Both the rooms and communal areas are clean and well maintained.

A big THANK YOU to everyone for looking after my partner with such genuine care and kindness.

Overall Experience
Over the last year, Abbeyfield have been great in looking after a family member.
Staff are amazing from care staff, cleaners, admin, managers and cooks, with each being very helpful to residents and visitors. They all engage with residents with their care, activities singing, drawing, games and overall wellbeing. I trust the staff.
The private rooms are nice and can be personalised and have "front doors" and bathrooms. There are common spaces, and in sunnier times have a great area for walking and sit talking when visiting. Quiet rooms are useful for visits as well as cinema room.
Overall the buildings are clean and modern and outside gardening areas make a great impression.

Keep up the great work!

My mother was a resident at Abbeyfield Winnersh for only two months when her vascular dementia developed to an extent that she could no longer to live alone. The staff at Abbeyfield were amazing. I have never met so many compassionate, patient and genuinely caring people. The care they provided was exceptional and every one showed her so much kindness and respect. The home is very well designed for dementia patients and it meant she could stay active and have a level of freedom while we knew she was safe. At the end of her life, the compassion and support the team showed both us and Mum made the situation bearable. I will never be able to thank the team at Abbeyfield enough for the kindness they showed us.

My husband was a resident at Abbeyfield Winnersh for the past two years, and I cannot thank the staff and management enough for the wonderful care he received. He was always very happy there and truly felt it was his home. He had the freedom to walk around and explore at his own leisure, which meant a great deal to him.
The staff were exceptionally caring and attentive, always treating him with kindness and respect. There were plenty of activities to enjoy, and he especially loved the music and dancing.
During his time receiving palliative care, the management and staff went above and beyond - not only looking after him, but also caring for our whole family. Nothing was ever too much trouble, day or night. Every carer spoke so fondly of him, and right up until the end, they ensured he was comfortable and maintained his dignity.
I will always be grateful for the compassion, warmth, and support we received.

Our dad has been at Abbeyfield for 3 months now. I've been so impressed with everything from the staff, the care they all have for their residents, and how they is always something they can get involved with. The surroundings are excellent and our dad loves the cinema room. It's run by a great management team as well which is important. Thank you Abbeyfield!

Abbeyfield's is a very caring care home who has done everything they can to make my Mum feel at home and settled in. All the staff generally really do care about the Residents and their needs - and will do whatever they can to make it the Residents feel at home. Its like its own little community! Mum was admitted back in April 2025 and has certainly kept them on their toes but they do look after her which is all we could ever ask for. They really do listen to feedback and take onboard what families have said. They have also recently started organising day trips for some of the residents which have been really varied and enjoyable for Mum when she's wanted to go.

My husband was admitted into Abbeyfields at short notice and they helped me over and above with transport and emotional support.
He settled in well and was looked after amazingly .
Interaction with staff was excellent and nothing was too difficult to arrange for him. As expected I was overly concerned for his welfare but the team kept me informed and all my questions were answered quickly.
The home looked after him so well and the support they gave me, his wife, was amazing.
The home is a special dementia home and as such has set up rooms and floors to offer freedom for dementia patients and is its unique selling point.

I cannot speak highly enough of the deputy Manager, and the exceptional standard of care, leadership and compassion he brings to his role. He consistently went above and beyond for my husbands stay-his unwavering commitment to resident wellbeing is second to none.

After 2 years of visiting my husband in the care home, I appreciate all the hard work it takes to keep the occupants happy & well cared for. The staff read to them & play games etc & have led parties in the lovely gardens. The food is excellent & nothing is too much trouble. The staff also helped me to come to terms with the loss of my husbands company & became my friends. I therefore looked forward to my visits even more. Well done & thank you.

Since the day, me and my wife visited this center to find out possible places for my great grand aunt, we have been very impressed by the quality of service, staff friendliness and the overall management. The customer relations manager made us feel welcomed during our first visit and explained everything in detail. My aunt's transfer to care home was handled very smoothly without putting us under pressure to show or prove her financial ability to support her stay. Since the move my aunt has settled in well as staff is very caring and friendly.
They are very attentive and keep us informed about my aunt.

I highly recommend this care home, which is well within the reach for anyone living in Woodley, Wokingham and nearby areas. From my experience I can say that the family members who may have to use the care home will definitely be looked after very well.

It was an absolute relief when we visited Abbeyfield. The Manager was extremely helpful and welcoming, putting us to ease explaining everything and taking us for a tour. They were not rushed for the finance part but only focused on the wellbeing and settling the resident. The staff at Abbeyfield are the highlight of this care home. Whenever I have visited my resident, the staff has always greeted us very well and we see them very helpful, cheerful and active around every resident. The facilities are perfect and the rooms are designed to make the resident feel safe, secure and also in touch with nature. It does not feel claustrophobic as every room as an outlet to outdoors and have a nice view of the garden. The activities are programmed as per the interests and abilities of the resident. Its a lively atmosphere at Abbeyfield and gives the best elderly care to the loved ones.

We chose Abbeyfield for Mum when it became obvious she was no longer able to remain in her bungalow even with carers visiting her. Sadly she was only with them a few weeks before a steep (and unexpected) decline in physical health led to her demise, but in that time their care was faultless. She was given every attention by all the staff, who looked after her so well in her final hours. My brother and sister-in-law were also treated to the same consideration while they were sitting with Mum.

The premises felt like a real home, not a clinical residence, and everyone working there is friendly and helpful.

I cannot praise this care home highly enough. From the moment we stepped inside to visit, we felt a really warm atmosphere and observed happy residents. The Customer Relations Manager explained the services, showed us around and did not concentrate on a heavy sales pitch which we appreciated. We observed a full programme of events designed to stimulate and, after moving in, my mother in law told us how lovely the staff were - a high accolade as she was not easy to please! They made progress with walking and personal care which had been near impossible with ourselves. At end of life, the in house nurses looked after her and all the stress of calling out district nurses, doctors and palliative care nurses was taken from us and my mother In law did not have to spend her final days in a hospital. The care she received in this home was second to none and everyone was very supportive of ourselves as well as my mother in law.

Our grateful thanks to all the dedicated staff at Abbeyfields, Winnersh.

Incredibly responsive and caring. My mother was only a resident for a short time before she passed, but we noted that there were always plenty of staff around, even at mid-night. Their staff fully understood their duties, and quickly established what care my mother required and how to best deliver it, even when she was being stubborn. Their physios had even got her walking again after she claimed she couldn't. We were very impressed with the full programme of events which helped with mental health. We would highly recommend Abbeyfield Winnersh.

Organising the room, marking of clothes and doing an inventory were all done the day before moving in. Pictures and shelf are all sorted. Mum arrived Friday afternoon December 2024. From this very day, she has been happy, free to walk about. Eating well, letting carers do personal care, showering and hair wash. Any of this was nearly impossible to get her to do. She is enjoying the freedom the social and the quiet rooms.
