My father lived in this care home for three years and overall was very happy there. He made some close connections with the staff and said that they treated him as if he was their grandfather. He felt that the home was well run and maintained. His only complaint was about the food; he mentioned this several times to the manager, but it appeared that she was unable to make significant improvements. He had a very pleasant room.

Overall, my experience (I am his daughter) was also good. I always had the impression that staff genuinely cared about Dad, got on well with him and wanted to make life comfortable and happy for him, and I made good relationships with staff also. I had some relatively minor problems with admin and communications.

During the pandemic, the home issued speedy and clear guidelines for visiting and remained Covid free - for which they must be congratulated.

I would certainly recommend this care home to others.

My mother was a resident for over 10-years at Swarthmore, and during this time, was looked after with kindness, love and the best care possible. The whole team at Swarthmore have always been welcoming and friendly, and the home provides the family with the peace of mind their loved ones are in a safe, calm and caring environment.

I cannot praise the whole team, and especially those carers who looked after my mum so well, especially in the last year under such challenging circumstances and did all they could to keep me connected with her, and finally were there with her when she passed away. I have always thanked the team for what they did for her and also for me over the many years. I felt like they were my family too when I would visit.

Swarthmore is especially lovely in the Spring and Summer months when the gardens and outside space can be used. My mum loved her room overlooking the garden.

Thank you again, Swarthmore. I cannot recommend you highly enough.

After looking at several care homes we decided without any doubt that Swarthmore was the best place for my father. This obviously was the right decision as he settled in very quickly, soon getting on with his reading and writing as before. The home is a converted, beautiful Edwardian house located in a very quiet residential area of Gerrards Cross. The extensive terrace running around the back of the building (with doors onto it from all the communal rooms) is a lovely place for the residents to sit, with or without visitors, enjoying the views and sounds of the landscaped gardens - with no discernible traffic noise, just bird songs. Visiting the home, I found the staff responsive and helpful, always making me feel welcome. Before Covid, you were free to visit as often as you like at any time of day. I know my father was also impressed with the dedication of his carers. He was always consulted on matters affecting his care and his views, whenever possible, were taken into account.

Until recently Swarthmore was home to my dear Mother. She lived there happily for over 4 years and regarded the staff as part of her extended family.
In March 2018 I recommended Swarthmore and two years later I continue to endorse the home.
The peaceful atmosphere of the house is homely and welcoming. The staff provide a high standard of care and are kindly and compassionate. Attention is paid to the needs of each of the residents who feel they are respected and valued as individuals.
The food is tasty and well-presented and the dining-room overlooks beautiful gardens. All the rooms, furnishings and linen are bright and clean. Family and friends are welcomed.
Activities play a large part in the life of Swarthmore. They are varied and entertaining: board games, flower-arranging, visits from singers and musicians, outings to garden centres, river trips, and walks into Gerrards Cross for coffee and shopping.

It was lovely to see her happily settled which gave me peace of mind.

Swarthmore has worked tremendously hard keeping COVID-19 away from the residents. The current visiting option is so well organised. The care and support to residents is outstanding.

My sister went to live at this home 18 months ago. She has a lovely room overlooking a beautiful garden. The care us excellent with great carers, if one is not happy about something you can always get help and the problem is sorted. Every day there is some form of entertainment which is really great. When you enter the house it has a very homely feeling. I cannot praise the home enough at this coronavirus time we have not been able to see our relation, but there has not been any problem so that us amazing.

My mother was a resident at Swarthmore from September 2016 to the day she passed away in January 2019. I know that she was happy there and this is entirely down to the exemplary care provided to her at the care home. My brothers and I are eternally grateful to the staff of Swarthmore who took care of Mum's every need and who were so very kind to her. Mum saw them all as friends. Knowing my mother to be Chinese, the care home staff would even deviate off the menu to occasionally cook her Chinese food. I can't think of anywhere else where Mum would have been happier!

My sister went into Swarthmore for 4 days before Christmas. I was extremely worried and upset but the staff on all levels were so kind to my sister and myself, putting us at our ease and explaining everything. My sister is settling in well and shows a marked improvement in all aspects of her daily life. Thanks to the care she is receiving! Lovely food, lots to do, nice room and clean!

The staff have adjusted their care for my Mother as she became more dependent following a spell in hospital. I feel confident in their professionalism and in their care. They treat each resident as an individual and have gone out of their way to encourage her to eat. They are welcoming and hospitable to visitors too.

I was very impressed with the warmth of welcome and assistance offered when I moved my 90-year-old godmother into Swarthmore at the beginning of December 2017 and these first impressions continued. The ethos/atmosphere of Swarthmore is one of care, relaxation and respect for all residents/staff. My godmother spoke of being treated as an adult, not as a child who made mistakes. As a Catholic, I was uplifted by the respect and tolerance shown for all Christian denominations and other religions - or none, and the peaceful and smooth running of the home and friendliness and genuine concern of all staff. The wealth of activities offered and the cheerful decor of the home, especially over the Christmas season, was delightful. Meals were very good and my godmother loved her food and the offer of hot drinks, cakes and biscuits in the early morning and evening in her room. She enjoyed sitting in the dining room with people she knew. Although help was always available for bathing, laundry, etc she was grateful for being encouraged to maintain her independence and mobility as far as possible. Being converted old houses, Swarthmore has great character and a lovely garden and I sympathise with the cost of maintenance. I thoroughly recommend Swarthmore and am only sorry that my godmother did not have longer there.

On the whole, I think Swarthmore is a good care home, I find the staff friendly and affectionate towards my Mum when I'm there and the management warm and helpful. My Mum seems as happy there as a person in the late stages of Parkinson's can be. The main beef I have is the price they charge, £4500 per month is a lot of money and I've just received a letter telling me that the fees are going up again, which they do every year. No specific reason is given for this and I'm not sure why they need an extra £200 per month. For the amount they charge, I might expect nicer food than they serve and more upmarket rooms, even before the rise in fees.

We are very happy with the level of attention and care provided to our 98-year-old mother by the Swarthmore care home.

Swarthmore is very professionally managed; she is supported by a very talented, competent, caring and enthusiastic team.

Given the lack of close relatives available to provide personal support and comfort to Mum, we are extremely fortunate and grateful for the manner in which Swarthmore tends to her every need and keeps us across her problems and progress. Accordingly, we cannot speak highly enough of the level of service provided to her.

Overall the staff are excellent, especially the permanent staff members. Even temporary and cover staff seem to work to the caring ethos of the home. The building and facilities might be better at a modern purpose built home, however, what there is at Swarthmore is more than adequate and as a relative of a resident, to me, the standard and quality of the care staff will always be key.
