The staff are kind, patient and caring. The home has an extensive programme of activities and entertainment for the residents. In an ideal world, I would love to look after my mother and myself, but this is not possible in the circumstances. At least I can feel confident that she is being well cared
for and her everyday needs met.

Staff very accommodating. My wife always neat and tidy. I was allowed to spend time with my wife on my birthday and bring a large cake. You can visit anytime without warning. The last sentence speaks volumes about the care residents receive.

I registered for two weeks of respite care after a hip replacement as I am a widow living on my own. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for me, I extended my stay for a further week. I cannot recommend the care and staff highly enough during my stay.

Mum has been here for 15 months now. Currently, she is at the end of her time and we wait for her to pass. This care home has shown me over the last 15 months that we made the perfect choice. However, these past few difficult days have demonstrated what an amazing group of staff they have. The care
and kindness and compassion has been a great comfort for me. It's like they are losing a family member and not just me losing Mum.
The home is spotless and smells fresh and clean. The residents are kept well dressed and comfortable and they have regular entertainment. The views are stunning and peaceful. Staff greet you with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. Even though Mum needs no food or drink, I am constantly checked on to make sure I don't need anything. Even the paramedics and on-call doctor commented on how well this place is run and how good the information is that they are given. I really can't praise this place enough.

Our mother was cared for so beautifully during her time at Barton Lodge. It was clear to see that all the staff have enormous compassion, respect, patience, and genuine love for their residents. Knowing Mum was so happy and felt so safe during her time in the home was an enormous comfort to our family.
We cannot recommend Barton Lodge Care Home more highly.

We could not be happier with the care that Dad receives. The carers are very friendly, kind and respectful. The food is very good and Dad thoroughly enjoys his meals. It's lovely to be able to see photos of the daily activities. Dad is looking forward to spending Christmas here.

My mother came to Barton Lodge Care Home for respite care and is now a permanent resident. She is very happy, and the staff are so helpful and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble for them. I’m so pleased we chose Barton Lodge for her, and she’s so very content.

My Mum was at Barton Lodge Care Home for almost 4-years in total and sadly passed away 28/5/2022. I cannot praise the staff enough for the care and compassion they have shown to my Mum and me at a very difficult time. "Loving Care Matters" is their ethos, and the wonderful staff here 100% epitomises
that culture. Knowing that my Mum was loved and cared for by this team gave me great peace of mind. When it came to her final few days, they guided us both like angels along a very tricky path. I could see how fond they were of her, and we both felt exactly the same about the staff. I will miss them all immensely and be forever grateful that we chose Barton Lodge as the Care Home for Mum.

Things had been hectic this past year with a management change and staff turnover. No one was on the same page, each staff member has different rules, confusing, and not a great experience, and I nearly moved my dad to another care home. Some staff were extremely rude and blunt at times. Now, things
have changed considerably. The person who is "running the show" is running a tight ship, firm but fair and is a brilliant source of comfort and a great leader, also efficient, friendly and always there to lean on when my dad or myself needs a shoulder to lean on. The person in charge is perfect in every way.

I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful care that the staff gave to my uncle during his 3-month stay in Barton Lodge.
He was always treated with respect, and his dignity was maintained throughout his stay. His end of life care gave us great comfort, knowing that he was not in pain and was comfortable.
We were, at all times, kept informed of his situation, and there was always someone available to talk to.
Apart from the care given to my uncle, I also received support, which was such a help, and any questions I asked were answered with clarity, straightforwardness and also some humour, where appropriate.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Barton Lodge to anyone trying to find a care home for a loved one.

My dad has lived in Barton Lodge Care Home for approximately 8-months. I cannot thank the manager and her team enough, not only for the care, compassion and patience in helping my dad settle into his new and unfamiliar surroundings but also for the amazing support they have given to me and our family.
This has been a very difficult year for all of us, but it has been more bearable due to the dedication, love and care from the manager and all the staff. It is due to them that my dad is now settled and very happy. I really could not wish for anything more. A huge thank you once again to an amazing team.

Barton Lodge is an amazing home. All the members of staff are kind and thoughtful. The manager's team care for each and every one of their residents with love and passion. They also care about the residents' families, keeping us in touch with updates and video messages. Our dad is very happy living
at Barton Lodge. When we phone him, he tells us how happy he is and that he is looked after well and how safe he feels during this terrible time of the ‘Covid Virus’. We feel that Dad is safe and professionally cared for.

Amanda

Amanda Cooper

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2012

Amanda has been with us since March 2012. She is enthusiastic and approachable with an infectious smile and a sunny disposition! She sets a fantastic example to everyone at the home with her hands-on approach and helps make Barton Lodge the best home in the New-Forest Region.


Amanda holds qualifications in Health and Social Care and has completed her Master’s Degree equivalent, QCF Level 7 accreditation. She is also a Mental Health First Aider, as well as a qualified trainer for safeguarding and a trainer in dementia. She continues to maintain her qualifications and knowledge through attendance at training courses and seminars throughout the year.


In her spare time, Amanda enjoys swimming, aqua-size and cycling. She also has a cat called Smudge, which she is allergic to!

Ioana

Ioana Contra

Job Title: Head of Care Joined: 2015

In 2015, Ioana came to the UK for work – she found not just a job, but a home with the Manucourt family. From the very beginning, she was welcomed into a compassionate and respectful team; a community that works hand in hand to provide the highest standard of care.


Over the years, she has grown both personally and professionally within this beautiful collective. Ioana’s goal has always been to help lead our team toward success, fostering an inclusive environment where every individual feels supported, valued, and empowered to contribute.


Ioana was fortunate to bring her husband and son with me from overseas, and today, they are proud to call Barton Lodge their home. As a family, they are deeply committed to caring for our residents, ensuring they feel safe, respected, and truly at home.

Christina

Christina Holliday

Job Title: Home Administrator Joined: 2024

Christina joined Barton Lodge in July 2024. She has lived and worked in the UK since 1993 and brings a wealth of experience from a career spanning a variety of office environments. She has led numerous teams over the years, and several of her roles even took her abroad regularly — something she thoroughly enjoyed.


Highly organised and quick to laugh, Christina jokes that she has “a great sense of humour despite being German.” Her warm, approachable nature helps people feel at ease the moment they meet her. After spending 25 years in Worcester, she relocated to the South Coast in 2020. During lockdown, she worked as a companion in a local care home, where she won an award in the ‘Resident Engagement’ category. She loves being part of Barton Lodge, describing it as a big, happy family where everyone looks out for one another.


Christina is married with two stepchildren and six grandchildren. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, cycling, walking along the beach, visiting the theatre — especially the opera — and travelling to Germany to see her mum and friends.

Gavin

Gavin Johnson

Job Title: Maintenance Manager Joined: 2017

Gavin oversees the upkeep of our Home and our wonderful grounds at Barton Lodge. He specialises in landscaping and gardening, which is evident from the beautiful open space we have here. Gavin can turn his hand to just about anything and is a great addition to the team.


In his spare time, Gavin enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children and getting out for walks in the New Forest. He also enjoys boxing and is an avid Manchester United fan.

Jenny

Jenny Edge

Jenny’s first job when she left school was a Window Dresser with a well-known high street fashion retailer. Jenny then went on to achieve a City and Guilds in Floristry and run her own shop in Southbourne for five years. Jenny has NVQs 3 and 4 in Health and Social Care and has worked in a care home setting for more than twenty years. Activities have been a very important part of Jenny’s work.


Jenny is involved with the local Dementia Group and Café and is married with one son and three grandchildren, which keep her busy. Jenny also has a Persian rescue cat named Dulcie Vita, who loves to visit the residents of Barton Lodge for cuddles.


Jenny’s hobbies include: reading, swimming, arts & crafts, aromatherapy and holistic therapies, and she is just learning to knit!

Susan Hawkins

Susan has been married to her husband, David, since 1987, and together they have three children – two sons, Simon and Mark, and a daughter, Victoria – as well as five grandchildren.


Throughout her career, she has held a variety of roles, and after relocating to New Milton, she joined the care sector. There, she discovered a passion for the activities side of care, particularly engaging with residents, which is where she feels most fulfilled.


In her spare time, she enjoys crafting and is always seeking new creative projects. She began knitting as a therapeutic and social outlet following her breast cancer diagnosis. She is pleased to share that she is now cancer-free and has since completed a 3k charity walk along the Bournemouth seafront – an event she looks forward to participating in again.

Suwanna

Suwanna Talbott

Job Title: Chef Joined: 2024

Suwanna joined Barton Lodge in September 2024, bringing with her a growing depth of culinary training and a genuine passion for cooking. She completed her NVQ Level 2 in Multi-Skilled Hospitality Service in April 2009, followed by the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery in April 2024 at Bournemouth & Poole College. Her commitment to developing her skills shines through in every dish she prepares.


Curious and creative by nature, Suwanna spends much of her free time expanding her culinary knowledge – whether exploring diverse and nutritious recipes, experimenting with sugar-free ingredients, or honing her cake-decorating techniques through online learning and YouTube tutorials.


She takes great pride in cooking for the residents at Barton Lodge, and nothing makes her happier than hearing that her meals have brightened someone’s day. For Suwanna, great food is both a craft and a way of caring – and she brings that spirit into the kitchen every single day.
