My wonderful mother moved into Barton Lodge just over a year ago having been diagnosed with server Alzheimer's. My father found this extremely difficult as he had cared for her at home until sadly, there was no choice. The whole process was made so much bearable for all the family by the amazing care,
compassion and affection shown by everyone working within Barton Lodge. The last six months have been difficult by the covid19 virus, all of the staff have worked tirelessly to protect residents, but also keeping everyone informed. They are truly wonderful people.

My mother-in-law stayed for 2 weeks, she was very nervous about going into somewhere strange where she didn't know. There really was no need as she was totally content and happy with all that she did and the staff were more than happy to help and chat when time permitted. My mother-in-law will be looking
at another stay in the summer, thank you to everyone involved.

Excellent care home with extremely dedicated and caring staff. The care and support provided to all residents is outstanding and the staff take time to ensure that every resident feels valued and looked after. My stepfather thoroughly enjoys his meals at Barton Lodge and has settled well into his new
environment, likening it to a hotel. Visitors are also made to feel very welcome and staff and management will always take time to chat even when they are so busy.

My Mum has been staying at Barton Lodge for respite care at the weekends. From my very first contact, the support, reassurance and teamwork offered to Mum and myself by the staff and surroundings, has been outstanding. All staff continue to be interested and attentive in my Mum's welfare, and always
operate in an extremely professional and caring manner. I highly recommend Barton Lodge to anyone looking for a homely, loving environment for their loved ones to settle into when the time comes.

My mother stayed at Barton Lodge from 2018 until she passed away in March 2019. Initially, it was respite care and then eventually she decided it was so nice she wished to remain there. The staff was fantastic, they looked after her very well. I think Mum who had Alzheimer's blossomed there! She was
happy being with such a friendly, thoughtful almost loving group of people (staff). I will always be grateful to them for looking after her so well. They noted any change in health, always attentive to her needs. Mum was happy and allowed to live independently but was looked after at the same time - marvellous. Perfect combination, I had no more worries her being there, very contented mum to the end of her days.

I think as with probably most relatives that put a loved one into a care home, an apprehension as to if its the right move. But I can say that all my worries soon disappeared. My mum was welcomed and cared for, given a lovely room. She is now happy, has lots of company and really good care. The staff
are all wonderful and make a great fuss of mum. I don't think I could have asked for better care for her. Well done all at Barton Lodge.

My mother and father lived at Barton Lodge Care Home for three years and during that time I was very impressed with the kindness and patience of the staff there. At all times they were professional and caring and I was very touched by the family feeling and genuine love shown to us when firstly dad,
then mum died. A wonderful, friendly home showing loving care.

My mum always looks clean and tidy. The staff are caring and friendly with a very personalised approach which makes her feel part of a big family!! She loves the banter. I am always asking her if she is happy and if the staff are kind, to which she always answers a big yes! She can't remember what she's
eaten at mealtimes but always says she's enjoyed it! Whenever I visit her, along with my family, we are made to feel very welcome and very much part of the 'Barton Lodge family'.

My sister has been cared for at Barton Lodge for approximately four weeks now and the change in her is quite remarkable.
She had spent the previous 18 months in a care home in Christchurch where her deterioration rate was very rapid, she was reluctant to eat. I spoon fed her a meal times. Her ability
to walk became very poor and she was very "vacant" and difficult to communicate with. She was not being looked after and she now has spirit and is a pleasure to visit her walking has improved greatly and she is a pleasure to visit her walking has improved greatly and she eats everything put in front of her. The staff are all very attentive and give me confidence in my sister's well-being.
I cannot speak highly enough of everyone at Barton Lodge

My mother sadly had to leave Barton Lodge after almost 2 very happy years because her needs increased following a stroke. The staff are amazing - genuinely kind and caring and I never had to worry about her day to day welfare. The manager always kept me informed of any concerns regarding mum's health
and acted immediately. There is a lovely family atmosphere at Barton and my family and I will miss all the staff very much. We were so lucky to have hit the jackpot when searching for a suitable home for mum and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Barton to anyone seeking a loving care home for a relative. I would also like to add that the laundry service is amazing. The staff made sure that mum had clean fresh clothes every day - mum used to say her clothes were washed too often, but to see her looking so clean and well cared for was a joy to me! We couldn't have wished for better.

All staff, without exception, are efficient, friendly and caring. The facilities are excellent and the home has a very warm and friendly atmosphere, and security is first rate. Because my Mother is so content in her room, that she refuses to leave it, so, unfortunately, she hasn't experienced the pretty
sensory garden or the lovely, huge, garden with wonderful views across the sea to the Isle of Wight.

My mother stayed at Barton Lodge for two weeks respite care.
I was worried that she wouldn't be happy as she hasn't been in a care home before.
I needn't have worried.
The home was lovely as were the staff.
Every single member of staff was kind and caring.
She felt at home and is looking forward
to her next stay.

I had been caring for my grandparents for the last two years. As my grandmother's condition worsened I was unable to care for my grandfather as well who has advanced dementia.
We were all very worried about him going into care, especially my grandmother because it was the first time they had been apart
in their 68 years of marriage.
Our fears were soon forgotten after meeting and watching how the staff were with him.
The love, compassion, and understanding they show towards him was so great to see and he has settled into his new environment very quickly, which has made it much easier for us as a family.
I would recommend Barton Lodge and its brilliant staff to anyone.

Amanda

Amanda Cooper

Job Title: Registered Home Manager Joined: 2012

Amanda has been with us since March 2012. She is enthusiastic and approachable with an infectious smile and a sunny disposition! She sets a fantastic example to everyone at the home with her hands-on approach and helps make Barton Lodge the best home in the New-Forest Region.


Amanda holds qualifications in Health and Social Care and has completed her Master’s Degree equivalent, QCF Level 7 accreditation. She is also a Mental Health First Aider, as well as qualified trainer for safeguarding and a trainer in dementia. She continues to maintain her qualifications and knowledge through attendance at training courses and seminars throughout the year.


In her spare time, Amanda enjoys swimming, aqua-size and cycling. She also has a cat called Smudge – which she is allergic to!

Barbara

Barbara Almond

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2014

Barbara joined Barton Lodge in May 2014 and has a real passion for organising fun and entertaining activities. Her experience stems from her days as a Girl Guide leader and Scout leader bringing 19 years of experience to Barton Lodge. She really is an expert in her field!


Barbara’s warm, smiling and approachable character helps her build an excellent rapport with the residents and she loves seeing those smiles after an afternoon of activities! She genuinely thrives on the pleasure she feels when she sees the difference the activities make to the lives of our residents.


In her spare time, Barbara enjoys spending quality time with her family and has two dogs that keep her busy outside of work!

Jenny

Jenny Edge

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2018

Jenny’s first job when she left school was a Window Dresser with a well-known high street fashion retailer. Jenny then went on to achieve a City and Guilds in Floristry and run her own shop in Southbourne for five years. Jenny has N.V.Q 3 and 4 in Health and Social Care and has worked in a care home setting for more than twenty years. Activities has been a very important part of Jenny’s work.


Jenny is involved with the local Dementia Group and Café and is married with one son and three grandchildren which keep her busy. Jenny also has a Persian rescue cat named Dulcie Vita, who loves to visit the residents of Barton Lodge for cuddles.


Jenny’s hobbies include; reading, swimming, arts & crafts, aromatherapy and holistic therapies and she is just learning to knit!

Gavin

Gavin Johnson

Job Title: Maintenance Manager Joined: 2017

Gavin oversees the upkeep of our Home and our wonderful grounds at Barton Lodge. He specialises in landscaping and gardening, which is evident from the beautiful open space we have here. Gavin can turn his hand to just about anything and is a great addition to the team.


In his spare time, Gavin enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children and getting out for walks in the New Forest. He also enjoys boxing and is an avid Manchester United fan.

Wing

Wing

Job Title: Cook Joined: 2023

Kam Wing Wong, known as Wing to everyone, moved with his family from Hong Kong to the UK three years ago, and they couldn't be happier with their decision.


Wing has been working at Barton Lodge since November 2023, and it has been a wonderful experience for him. He takes pride in cooking healthy and delicious meals for the residents and staff.


Wing has a passion for travelling, hiking, and most sports. Exploring the UK with his family is something they all cherish.
