Just had the most amazing afternoon tea at Downs House to celebrate Mother's Day. The chef and all the staff put in such effort to make the tea memorable. The sandwiches and cakes were plentiful and delicious. I shared the tea with Mum and her best friend at the home and they had a lovely time. Mum has been at Downs for nearly 4 years and I am so happy with the care she receives. She constantly tells me how much she loves her room and how happy she is there. It brings such peace of mind to know that she is well cared for and happy.

Mum's health has changed - quite quickly over the last few weeks. We have been very pleased with how attentive and responsive the staff are to her needs. And also with the quiet, calm kindness that seems to be part of every aspect of the home.

From my initial visit with Mum to Downs House, to Mum moving in in July 2023, I have felt happy with the relaxed atmosphere and friendly, approachable staff. No question is met with apathy and humour and understanding are present on every visit. Mum has settled well, despite her initial reluctance to leave her 'own home' (as most residents also feel no doubt). The activities on offer are expansive and cater for all. Family and friends are all happy to visit. Thank you.

My mother is a resident of Downs House at present and has settled in very well. She is well looked after, the staff are very friendly and attentive, and nothing is too much trouble. Very good communication with manager and assistant manager regarding any concerns or just discussion around Mum and her needs, etc.

Would definitely recommend this home to anyone.

I am welcomed by a team of friendly carers. I am so happy with them and we frequently have to stop laughing until we can continue. I also enjoy occasional visits to local sights, gardening and planting. I also like painting and music programmes. I feel safe here like I am at my own house, thank you to everyone.

I was so worried about putting my dad in a care home, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But thanks to the manager and all the staff at Downs House they made it so easy and advised me on how to approach this difficult task, they have all been outstanding, helpful and so empathetic about the whole process. I went to see him today and he is so much happier there than he has been for a long time. He feels safe and is well looked after and is enjoying himself after some months of being anxious and unhappy. Downs House has a bright and cheerful feel about it and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it as an exceptional home for the elderly.

My step-father has been at Downs House for about a year. From day one it has been great for him and for me to know how safe, well cared for, happy and is the best home of all those I checked out. Not as posh as some but so good in terms of intelligent, thoughtful, kind, generous and reassuring care.

We will never be able to thank the amazing Downs House staff enough for the kind, caring and professional way in which they cared for our dad in his final weeks. Even though he was only at the home a short time, they made him (and us) feel like family. And they gently cared for all of us when his time came. After hair raising experiences at other care homes, I cannot rate this wonderful team more highly and they made this challenging time a little more gentle with their love and care.

The Downs House became our parent's home after Dad had a stroke in 2009. At first, we tried care in their house for Dad, but it was not satisfactory, and Mum was lonely. They were so much happier at the Downs House. The carers were wonderful - kind, professional, respectful and always available. Mum especially enjoyed the food and activities, such as sing-a-longs, crafts, quiz games, flower gardening and virgin G&Ts with her Downs House girlfriends. After Dad passed, Mum was increasingly supported by the loving staff due to her own health and mobility issues. We want to personally thank the carers and management for their kindness and for making a true home for Mum and Dad. The Downs House was Mum's home for almost twelve years, and we were always happy we had chosen it.

Mum was always fiercely independent and never wanted to go into care but, unfortunately, the time came when she could no longer cope on her own, especially being on the Isle Of Wight. Due to my own health issues, I was unable to care for her myself, so I wanted somewhere for her that I felt comfortable with. Downs House felt like the right place straight away and, once mum settled in, she was very happy there for over 5 years.

My mother moved into Downs House Care Home in November 2019, aged 99. She settled in very easily thanks to the kindness of the staff who welcomed her into their family. She enjoyed two Christmases and her 100th birthday there with great celebrations. She was well cared for - her clothes were always clean and her lovely garden room was comfortable and clean. She enjoyed having baths again and the companionship in the dining room. We could not have found a better place for her.

I've been here for two months and all the staff have been very welcoming. The room is spacious and kept clean and tidy. The food is excellent, especially the deserts. I am well looked after and all the staff are very helpful and caring. Nothing is too much trouble for them and my comfort is important to them. The night staff are equally attentive, it is a lovely location and I am very happy here.

My neighbour moved into Downs House last month after several falls at home, we looked at several homes but found Downs House to be the most welcoming and our preferred choice. The manager was very supportive during our visit and spent a great deal of time answering our questions. Since moving in we have found the whole team to have the same attitude, nothing is too much trouble. The home is clean and well presented with a lot of activities going on. My neighbour is the happiest I have seen her in a long time, this is thanks to the team at Downs House. This is truly a wonderful home that I would recommend.

Downs House is an exceptional home. My grandmother has really settled in. She has gone from living at home alone to living with a lovely group of people, she has made new friends with both residents and staff. She is a new person thanks to the care and support of the staff at Downs House. We are even able to stop and have lunch with her. The home is beautiful and the staff are amazing.
