Mum has been at Engleburn since May 2019. I am her only daughter and live in Brittany France. The care my mum receives is wonderful. All the staff are kind and patient so much humility it's a warm family atmosphere. Whenever I telephone Engleburn I am received with cheerful helpful voices. Living so
far away and having mum so lovingly looked after is amazing.
Thank you to all of the staff!

Cannot fault anything about Engleburn. My mum is settled, happy and looking really well. Staff have been excellent and respond to any requests promptly. It is so good to know that my mum is happy, and more importantly, safe. Thank you to everyone involved in her care.

Staff have always been welcoming and friendly, willing to discuss matters openly. Current circumstances mean I have not been able to visit Mum in the home, but the customer care manager has been kind enough to send me a brief video "tour" of her room and the common areas, based on which I have been
able to make ratings below. Recent experience of visits and observing staff with Mum as they take her from the building to the summer house used for visiting tells me that they are caring and interested in the well being of residents. Mum's engagement with them seems a happy one, too, which gives us comfort as a family. Mum often has small complaints about food standards, but we don't really know how much of that is because it is not the way she would do it. Similarly, she has the odd moan about not being able to get her medication on time, but staff are usually quick to react when she mentions this. On the whole, we think Engleburn is a good place for her to be, and she is well cared for.
Reply from Tracey Holland, Manager at EngleburnThank you for such a lovely review; mum is a valued part of our home, and we always strive to meet her expectations.

My father has been living at Engleburn for five years now, and in all that time, he has been treated with understanding and love.
The staff have done their best to try to keep his memories alive and to help my dad participate in all the activities.
They have always consulted me in any major decisions
concerning his care.
Covid has been a very difficult time, but I do believe that Engleburn has always been professional in its care and encouraged contact with my father as much as is possible during this time in various ways, with their main concern to keep everyone safe.
My family and I feel that all the staff have a genuine affection for my dad and that he is happy and feels well cared for in this environment.
We thank everyone in Engleburn and are so pleased that we found this particular care home; I don't think we could have done better.
Reply from Tracey Holland, Manager at EngleburnThank you for such a lovely review. We are so happy to support dad; he is a massive part of our home and loved by all staff.

I have found all the staff very friendly and approachable. My late mum's partner had to go into a home as he was unable to live on his own. It was a big adjustment for him in the beginning, but he is very happy living here and has told us everyone has made him feel welcome, and he loves his room and
the meals provided.
Because of Covid, we have not been inside the home, all our visits have been outside, which have been much appreciated, and I would like to say thank you to all the staff.

The severe constraints on access and visits due to the Covid-19 precautions make it impossible to provide a realistic assessment of the home, its facilities and performance. From my limited experience over the past 15-months (I have yet to enter the building beyond the front lobby), I have rated all
aspects as "good". The staff, at all levels, have always responded to me, knowledgeably, professionally, courteously and with understanding and empathy all in the right places. This is highly appreciated. It appears that my wife (the residents) took some time to settle down, but with much attention and effort by the staff, seems much more relaxed, comfortable and secure in all surroundings. She seems to respond very well to her carers. This is the best I can hope for. Thanks and congratulations to all concerned for their efforts during such a difficult time.

I find all residents are well cared for by the staff. Residents seem happy and comfortable with their new living arrangements. Residents are treated like family in this care home. Nutrition for the residents is of a good standard with choices, which is important. I find this home very welcoming and
always helpful when needed. Overall, I would recommend this care home.

Both my parents have been residents in Engleburn. Unfortunately, my dad passed away last year, but my mum is still a resident.
My mother-in-law is also a resident at the home, and I believe that if it were not for the service provided by Engleburn, particularly during these challenging times, then
both my mum and my mother-in-law would probably not be with us.
The service and care that is provided at the home, both from managers and members of staff, is excellent, and both Mum's speak highly of the care that they are receiving.
Would I recommend Engleburn to prospective clients or their families? Definitely!
Reply from Tracey Holland, Manager at EngleburnThe delight is all ours. We have been able to care for three of your family and enjoy every minute of it. My dad has now been at Engleburn for over two years, and I can honestly say the staff do everything they can to make him feel part of the ‘family’. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and when I leave, I can honestly say that I don’t feel I need to worry about him, which is very reassuring. Throughout
the pandemic, which was a particularly difficult time for everyone, they did everything they could to look after the residents and keep them safe. They provided many opportunities to video call to help us keep in contact with our loved ones. They have regular activities and entertainers, which really helps everyone to feel part of something.
Reply from Tracey Holland, Manager at EngleburnDad is an absolute delight to care for, he brings so much joy to the home and the staff. His daily visits to the office to see me are the highlight of my day. Thank you for being such a wonderful family and supporting us throughout the last year.

My dad moved into Engleburn at the start of January and is very content and settled. The staff are so friendly, helpful and hard-working and always go the extra mile to help. Especially with these very challenging times, it’s been fantastic to have regular video calls, and when I have gone to visit
in person recently, the measures in place to keep everyone safe are second to none. Thanks to everyone for all their efforts - it’s really appreciated.

Mum moved into Engleburn early 2020 and so only had a few weeks to settle in before lockdown occurred. Our experience has been that the staff have been nothing but exceptional during this time. They are the sole carers for the residents who have been unable until recently to have visitors and have been
unable to leave the care home apart from some exceptional circumstances. Mum has had a number of illnesses over the year and each time we have been kept up to date with how she is on a regular basis. If we have had any queries, we just need to call and if anything needs attention it is sorted immediately. Activities take place on a regular basis and she is actively encouraged to join in. Photos are posted on Facebook giving families a chance to see what is going on.

I hoped not to need to use this website but Engleburn has twice ignored my written request for a copy of their Complaints Procedure. It is not unreasonable to want to know how a Complaint will be managed... by whom, how and when. My friend was admitted for two weeks of respite care. Eighteen days later
she died. Yet at the time of her admission she was mobile (used to a daily 40 mins walk) alert communicating, drinking and eating (provided the requirements of her special diet were met). On admission, Engleburn were provided with comprehensive details of all aspects of her health to ensure she was cared for appropriately but clearly, they failed in their Duty of Care. She had provided a negative Covid swab as a condition of her discharge from the hospital but was placed in two weeks isolation and I was told that I would not be able to visit her. The catastrophic decline in her health may explain why this was commuted to seven days but no one bothered to tell me and I was not granted a visit for a further four days.
Reply from Tracey Holland, Manager at EngleburnWe take all feedback very seriously and welcome those who have had contact with our service to liaise with the home in the first instance. To date we do not have a record of any complaints raised by yourself and as mentioned before we would be happy to call and discuss these with you. During Covid-19 the guidance around isolation and visiting has been ever-changing. Consistently the need for 14 days isolation has remained and until recently only visiting within the home for those on end of life. Our home follows these guidelines to reduce the risk of infection to our service users. The client's condition that was stated in the review is something we as a home did not experience, care was provided for the client's current condition upon arrival. Unfortunately, you were unable to come in and see the home for yourself. This is reflected in the review.

Both of my parents were in this care home together, my mother was in the dementia wing and my father the residential. Neither were allowed to see each other on a regular basis. My mother died in the home and my father is still traumatised by the experience of living there. Following my mother’s death,
we moved my father closer to London and the new care home is fantastic, he is looking and feeling much better, he is healthier and regained the weight that he lost. We even believe his dementia has improved.
Whilst he was at Engleburn they, on several occasions, overcharged us and even charged us for mother’s care after she died.
On collecting my father the management didn’t even speak to us, it was appalling.
Reply from Tracey Holland, Manager at EngleburnUnfortunately due to Covid restrictions in the home the two different units had to be separated. All attempts were made to use video calls and communication between this couple. Again unfortunately due to circumstances prior to coming to the home, this couple could not be together in the same unit of the home which would have of course been the ideal situation. The gentleman in question had a full and active social life in the home and this included going out to weekly art classes until Covid 19 postponed these. There are two sides to every story.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.838)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.838) out of 10 for Engleburn is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.838 for Engleburn is calculated as follows: ( (210 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 247 Ratings = 4.838
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Engleburn is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
