Caring and friendly staff, very clean and orderly. Patient seems happy and relaxed, lots to keep them occupied, games, music, singing, a very comfortable and welcoming environment. As a family member, we also feel comfortable knowing our sister-in-law is getting the best possible care.

Mum moved to The Gatehouse earlier this year as she was struggling to live with Alzheimer's. The Gatehouse is very much a home from home with well maintained, private en-suite rooms opening onto beautiful gardens. The attentive management team and staff are superb: caring for Mum with dignity and respect.
With gentle encouragement from staff, including the dedicated activities manager, Mum now spends most of her time in the communal lounges and joins in the many and varied group activities. A lovely surprise as Mum was never very social before! Mum praises the food, has her hair done every week and has made friends with other residents. Communication with the Gatehouse is excellent with regular updates and photos. We can phone, visit or take Mum out whenever we wish. Seeing a loved one move into care is never easy but the operations manager and her team were very understanding and made things very smooth. My family is so grateful to see Mum happy and so well cared for. Thank you to everyone.
Reply from Louise Fowle, Operations Manager at The Gatehouse Residential Care HomeSharon thank you so much for your kind words, it is so nice to hear your lovely comments about our home and we are so pleased that Mum embraced what is on offer in our home.

Thank you for looking after my stepmother. She is declining sadly but not for want of TLC from you all. I hope that my suggestion of smaller meals on smaller plates will help her reverse her weight decline.

Excellent in every aspect. My brother is always happy living in the home. The entertainment is excellent and sometimes he is encouraged to join in, which he loves. The staff are always ready to help them. The gardens are well kept and when visiting, we can sit out in them.

Our aunt, who had a fall in January, was unable to live at home as her memory was badly affected. We were so lucky that the Gatehouse had a room and let her stay originally just for respite. It became apparent that at 98, her memory wasn’t going to improve. All the staff are so kind and patient with
her and she looks really well. She has her hair done weekly and we are sent regular photos of some of the activities she has been joining in with. We often go out for drives or ice cream or tea and cake, but she is always happy to get back. Thank you to the manager and her lovely team.

An exceptional Care Home in all aspects. Pleasant rooms, good home-cooked food, with caring staff. They keep you informed of what is going on in respect of the health of staff and residents. There is a programme of activities including music performances which my brother thoroughly enjoys being a musician
in his younger days. I would like to thank all the staff for all their hard work and for arranging a lovely Jubilee Party which one and all enjoyed.

Unfortunately, my Dad has had to move to a nursing home due to his needs changing. I would like to thank everyone for the kindness and excellent care given to him during his stay at the Gatehouse. It is very homely and always plenty of activities to do. My dad really enjoyed the home-cooked food and
there was always a good choice. He was never forced to do anything that he didn’t want to do. Thank you for everything.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Gatehouse Lodge. My mother was in need of some TLC which was given to her in bucket loads. The attention that was given was perfect in these strange times. I totally recommend this beautiful care home. I was able to see my mother while sitting outside her french
windows and used our mobile phone to chat. The gardens are wonderfully cared for. Thank you to the team for always being there for my calls and having the answers that I needed.

The Gatehouse has been looking after my mum for nearly two years now and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
This is Mum's 3rd care home since she developed Dementia and was unable to live independently in her home, so I feel I have some experience to draw from. From previous experiences with other
care homes, everyone should book a space at The Gatehouse for when their time comes to be looked after!
Ultimately residents are treated with respect and dignity. When I bring my children in to visit their Nan it feels like I'm taking them into her home. The staff always offer my children the drinks they like and we always find Mum looking lovely. Her room and bathroom are immaculate, always clean, tidy and the bed made. Mum always looks well cared for, clean and she begins the day in fresh, clean clothes - they do not always stay that way due to the amount of tea and treats she requests!
The food is delicious - homecooked on the premises and always a traditional 'favourite' dish.

My mother moved into The Gatehouse a few weeks before lockdown. We had previously visited 12 other homes but this one stood out as being homely and welcoming, with attractive rooms and gardens. The cheerful staff were always engaged and patiently polite with the residents, as well as welcoming towards
visitors.
Throughout lockdown, management has frequently updated us with details of their protective protocols. They have enabled FaceTime and Skype ‘virtual ‘ visits and latterly garden visits, with scrupulous attention to hygiene and distancing. They have been inventive in arranging ongoing activities for the residents despite current restrictions. I feel grateful that my mother is being looked after so well.

My mother has now been a resident of The Gatehouse for 2.5 yrs. In all the time she has been there she has been well looked after by an extremely diligent and supportive group of staff.
Wherever possible they will accommodate any special requirements and are always trying to get her to take part in
the group activities, although she does prefer to be a bit of a loner. In which case they are always popping in for a chat.
I am always kept up to date on anything that I need to be aware of and as her next of kin, I can rest assured that she is receiving the best of care in a warm, friendly and safe environment.

The Gatehouse is a lovely, caring and well-run care home. My mum has been there for 9 months now with ongoing Dementia and she absolutely loves her new home and the friends she has made.
It has been an unprecedented few months due to Covid, but they have managed this extremely well, keeping all residents
and staff covid free. We have been able to see her via facetime and outside visits under strict covid rules.
The home is family-friendly, very clean and with well-kept gardens to use.
They keep the residents entertained throughout the year with daily activities.
I would recommend this care home without hesitation for any person looking for a familiar homely living space.

The Gatehouse provides first-class care to all their residents. They closed their doors to hospital and respite admissions just prior to lockdown. They have ensured the health, safety and welfare of all their residents during this difficult time.
My relative is happy and well cared for, which is so
reassuring during this time. I have no hesitation to recommend them to anyone who is looking for elder care.

The staff at The Gatehouse have gone out of their way to make sure my Mother-in-law has felt settled and welcomed into their home. She has been a resident there over a year now and I feel that she is extremely well looked after. In 'usual times' they have an excellent array of entertainment on a daily
basis and they have done their best in these 'unusual times' to ensure the residents are occupied. I feel that the current Covid19 situation has been dealt with very thoroughly ensuring everyone's safety. In my opinion, The Gatehouse is a fantastic friendly care home.

Our mother was a resident at The Gatehouse for nearly 2 years and I couldn't speak more highly of the personalised care, and love shown to her by all the wonderful staff.
The home was recommended by a local friend and we couldn't have chosen a better place.
My brother, sister and myself all live a
significant distance away and felt totally confident in the care that Mum received.
They were brilliant with communications and always available to help or answer any concerns we had, even helping with filling in government forms, which can be quite daunting!
Their attention and respect of the individual traits of Mum, was so appreciated and made the biggest difference to the later part of Mums life.
Sadly, she passed away in February and that period was also managed with love and dignity by all the staff.
Thank you so much for the love that you gave to Mum, all of you.
We can't thank you enough and highly recommend you.
Stay safe and well, all staff and residents.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.795)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.795) out of 10 for The Gatehouse Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.945 for The Gatehouse Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (156 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.945
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Gatehouse Residential Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
