I visit 2 or 3 times a week and always receive a warm welcome and refreshments. My sister is well cared for. The staff get on well together and are very caring towards all the residents. There is always someone to talk to about my sister if I have any worries and I am kept well informed about her.

I cannot thank all the staff, for all the care they do for my mum, she is treated the respect and care. I would always say that she is so very well looked after and she loves it here also. There is nothing they won't do to support my mum and even myself so only can thank them for this.

Reply from Lauren Elliot, Assistant at Oak View Residential Care Home

We are so pleased that your mum is happy at Oak View and that your family feel supported. It's great to hear you and your mum had a great experience with the respect and care received from our lovely staff. Thank you for taking the time to write this review.

My mother has been a resident at Oak Lodge for around 18 months now, after a year at a large corporate home who decided they couldn't cope with her needs. We liked that home but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as that home ended up being investigated and now having her at Oak Lodge, we realise how comparatively poor it was.
Oak Lodge has been brilliant for Mum. The staff are amazing and her face lights up when she sees some of them (she has severe Alzheimer's). She is clearly far happier here than at her previous home and it's obvious she's more safe and secure, not least because of the high staffing levels.
As others have said, it's very like a nice hotel, with spacious rooms and everything is very clean. I genuinely can't praise the staff enough, and it's clear they seem to be happy working there, again something not always apparent at the previous home.

I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone in the unenviable position of needing to place a relative in care.

The nursing home is very clean. My wife is very happy there. The staff are very good. The trouble is when I take a cream slice she eats the lot, never saves me one so I get a doughnut.

Absolutely outstanding care home. Staff are very attentive, friendly and well organised. Plenty of staff to go around for the residents, very well organised. Upon arrival, you are offered a hot or cold beverage which is a very nice touch indeed. This doesn't feel like a care home setting and when I say that it does not smell like a normal care home (urine/faeces) it has a very pleasant smell. The style and decor are like walking into a luxurious hotel. Management is absolutely outstanding. I can't thank everyone enough for what they have done for my father-in-law. Residents get fed 4 times a day and are also well watered. All staff have been retained so no high turnover of staff, the company are definitely doing something right. All levels of staff are amazing from the cleaners, caretakers, receptionists, carers and management. You will be peaceful to know they are well looked after. Well done to all the staff for making this place happen and work as it does.

The staff are always very kind, helpful and caring to residents at all times. Nothing is ever too much for them and it has been a joy to see how very caring they are. I couldn't have wished for a more caring home for my husband who has Alzheimer's.

My Mum has now been at Oakview for just over a month but I thought it would be useful to share my experience. Mum had come from her own home where she had 2 full-time carers, however, the time had come for her to move into residential care. From the initial viewing, I felt the setting was much more like a home environment rather than a care setting, I was so impressed with the information and the surroundings. An assessment was quickly arranged and Mum was settled in the home within a couple of days.

As a regular visitor, I have been so impressed with how well she has settled in, each time she seems happy, calm, and content. Mum is now always clean, dressed in clean clothes daily and her overall appearance and mood have improved hugely since moving into Oakview. I feel supported by all of the lovely team at Oakview, I am informed about her care and any care decisions that need to be made. Any families making this huge decision should look no further than Oakview 10/10!

Review from S M (Brother of Resident) published on 9 January 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My sister was a resident at Oak View from March-Sept 2023. There is an opportunity for this place to be great, but it left me disappointed. The staff are polite and friendly, but there was little or no interaction between the staff and my sister other than calling her for meals and dispensing medication. My sister was not taken out for any excursion by staff either individually or on a group outing, despite the beach being very near. The only regular “activity” was the musical entertainment on Friday. The patio access is via a code-locked door and I rarely saw residents using it - mainly used by staff for their breaks. The laundry process needs attention because clothes regularly went missing which upset my sister. The “carehome.co.uk” website says there is a “Phone Point in own room/Mobile”, but no phone point and the care home bans mobile phones. This left my sister feeling isolated and lonely. In my opinion, the “luxury hotel environment ” claim in the home’s brochure does not reflect reality.

Reply from Rachel Adey, General Manager at Oak View Residential Care Home

I am deeply sorry that your sister felt alone and isolated. I wish I had known about the mobile phone problem; it would have given me the chance to do the necessary risk assessment and prevent this situation. Our staff do work hard to build strong relationships with the residents. We will, however,...

Mum was a resident at the home for five weeks and received excellent care. Her room was comfortable and always clean and fresh. The staff treated Mum with respect and care and was always friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The family was safe in the knowledge that she was being well looked after. I would highly recommend the home to anyone looking for care for a loved one.

Care at Oak View for Mom is excellent and always has been. The staff remain vigilant at all times as Mom is susceptible to infections; they catch these very quickly. Mom is loved and cared for and shows as she is always happy.

My husband has been at Oak View for two and a half years, and the care he has been given by the staff has been outstanding. They all go above and beyond to make his stay pleasurable. The home itself is modern and comfortable and caters for all the resident's needs. I can't praise this home enough.

My father has been a resident at Oak View for a number of years now, and I cannot stress enough just how exceptional the care he receives is. I’ve had experience with other homes, and they simply do not compare. I would strongly recommend them to anyone; it’s never an easy decision to choose the right home for your loved one, so hopefully, this accolade will help people when in the process of making such a tough decision.

Because of virus lockdowns I have never been inside the care home or seen any other residents. I go into my father's room through an outside door so I cannot answer questions on facilities/activities. The manageress, the staff, cleaning lady and maintenance man have always been cheerful, friendly and helpful to me and my Dad. His room is clean and warm. The en-suite sink and toilet are gleaming clean. I am very pleased and couldn't wish for better for him.

My brother was in Oakview for respite care after being discharged from the hospital. From the first day of him being there, he was treated with dignity and compassion.

Each time I rang, the staff were friendly and helpful and always cheerful. Nothing seemed too much trouble. It was a home from home.
