Auburn Mere has been my mother's place of residence for the last 3 and a half years.
Even from our first visit to view I have always been continually and consistently impressed and reassured by the levels of care and consideration that are given to each and every one of the residents.
Staff go out
of their way to make the residents feel individual, and are always able to answer or share any concerns - and contact me immediately if any specific issues they fell need escalating, such as illness, falls, changes in disposition etc.
The varied menu is excellent, activities organised to meet every resident's needs, monthly newsletter communication to update on other initiatives etc all go towards creating a feeling of trust and peace of mind that she is in excellent capable care.
I would thoroughly recommend Auburn Mere to anyone looking for either long term or short respite care.

I would highly recommend this wonderful Care Home. My wonderful Mum-in-law was a resident at Aubern Mere for over 2 years until she died recently aged 98. Her brother had lived there five years previously also until the age of 98. We cannot speak too highly of the committed, caring staff at the home,
quite a few of whom have worked there for many years and who we, as a family, felt we knew as friends. We always felt Mum was in a safe and loving environment.

The building is immaculate and set in beautiful grounds. The common areas are spacious and individual rooms are tastefully decorated.

We are very pleased with the care my mother is receiving at Auburn Mere and feel we have left Mum in good hands. All the staff, both office and carers are very friendly and approachable to us as the family as well as to Mum. We are always made to feel welcome on our frequent visits and often share a
nice pot of tea with Mum in her room or sun lounge. Mum very much appreciates it when staff stop and chat and take an interest in her as a person, this stops her being bored and makes her feel wanted and also is a brilliant way for the staff to find out any concerns Mum may have. There is a good routine and activities with always something to do or plan for such as visits out for lunch. Medical concerns are taken seriously. The gardens are well looked after, set in lovely scenery and are a pleasant place to sit and chat. We also very much enjoyed the recent Garden Party for the Royal Wedding.

Respect for the client's choice is something that stands out at Auburn Mere. Clients are treated individually and you will still see clients up late in the evening. Visitors at whatever time of the day or evening are positively welcomed. Even when I arrive at the home with my Mum who had been in casualty,
she was greeted with joy that she'd returned. It really is a home, not an institution. Normal activities are happening with clients all the time so there is a positive atmosphere and yet it is one of the cheapest homes in the area.

We chose Auburn Mere after visiting 9 other care homes in the local area.
We liked it because it felt "homely" rather than like a hospital or student accommodation.
The rooms are a good size on the whole, with high ceilings and nicely decorated.
We also received the best advice from the staff on
how to move my father there to make it as seamless as possible. It also helps that price-wise it's mid-range.
If I had any feedback it would be that communication can be lacking at times and laundry can be a bit slap-dash.
But my father is safe and well overall.

All the carers are lovely and treat Dad well. He moved into the home in October 2016. Since then I asked senior staff, on more than one occasion, to request certain things from Dad's GP and they had not been done. This resulted in me having to make an appointment with the GP to get them done eg blood
test. I will now always email my requests to the home to ensure they are carried out. Otherwise, Dad is happy and well looked after. Having had previous experience of a nursing home where my mother stayed, Auburn Mere is very good in comparison.

I moved in here last October 2016 and to date, I am reasonably satisfied. The carers and staff are marvellous and very kind and considerate. The main meal of the day (lunchtime) is not always as I would like it, but I am a fussy eater, having been spoilt at home by my wife who was a trained cook,
and I should think that it must be very difficult catering for people's varying taste. At this moment in time, I am quite happy living here.

My mother went in Auburn Mere in July 2016. This was undoubtedly the best care provider which follows visiting several others in the area.
Due to my mother's age, they relocated her to the ground floor when a room was available, totally redecorating to our preferred choice.
My mother is very happy
at Auburn Mere and finds the staff very caring and attentive.
My observations on my regular visits confirm this fact.
There are regular activities for those who want to participate.
Bathed regularly and hairdressing available (important for women).
Plenty of rooms for residents to sit during the day, including a large area outside.
Also has family functions, e.g. annual fete.

Initially my mother went to Auburn Mere for day respite care; shortly after this she became a full-time resident. It must always be a difficult decision to put a loved one into a care home, but if it had to be, I don't believe I could have found a better place. I was lucky; I had only viewed one other
care home, but that was enough to convince me that I had found the right place. The accommodation was excellent; my mother had always been particular about her surroundings and we were encouraged to personalise her room. I was able to visit her regularly and was always offered tea or coffee and wonderful, home-made cake. While this may seem trivial, it made time spent with my mother relaxed and comfortable. The staff who cared for my mother were superb and I knew that she was being cared for far better than I could. She enjoyed the company of other residents and enjoyed participating in the activities. These were varied and included outings for lunch etc. I was able to join in these activities with her; they were fun. Sadly, my mother's health deteriorated and it was then that I fully appreciated the standard of care offered by Auburn Mere, which was above and beyond what could have been expected. It enabled her to spend her last days surrounded by people she knew, and who knew her, and not in hospital. I cannot recommend Auburn Mere too highly and will never be able to thank them enough for all they did for my mother.

Auburn Mere provides a cheerful, light and friendly home for my mother - both in its outlook on surrounding countryside, its public spaces and individual rooms. It succeeds in providing a caring environment for those with a range of physical and dementia problems, and you do not feel those with dementia
are shut away. The staff are attentive, caring and patient and there is an appropriate range of activities.

My mother has been in the home for several years. She has always had excellent care and is very happy there, still commenting on how nice and how kind the staff are. The lounge was recently almost doubled in size and a new large and comfortable conservatory was added.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.575)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.575) out of 10 for Auburn Mere is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.825 for Auburn Mere is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.825
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Auburn Mere is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
