This home is situated in the market town of Hitchin, the name of the town is associated with the small river that runs through it. The river is known as the river Hiz on maps. Hitchin is significant for music all year round with many venues hosting regular events. This location is also conveniently situated just 9 miles from Welwyn.
The home itself is a residential home in a Victorian house ideally located for all amenities and is easily accessed by public transport. There is easy access via a large front drive and ramp to the front door. Parking is limited, however, there is also some limited parking on the road.
The rear garden has a dementia design landscape comprising of a figure of eight pathway leading to many seating areas and sensory flower beds. The enclosed garden is accessible via French doors from the lounge and provides a safe and attractive outside area for residents and their visitors to enjoy.
This is a residential care home to 22 residents aged 65 and over and offers specialist care for people living with dementia. The house is characterful and full of individual charm. The staff are all from the local area and a family atmosphere abounds. Person centred care is provided, personal care and support following a holistic approach to care.
There are easily identifiable signs around the home assisting service users to find their way around easily. The home affords two small lounges and a large lounge/diner. Activities are held daily in the larger lounge.

My mother spent a month at Highbury Rise last year and is now back permanently. My sisters and I are very pleased that she's so comfortable, well looked after and happy. The staff are compassionate, friendly, attentive and professional - they make visitors feel welcome and seem to go out of their way to relate to and reassure residents.
The atmosphere at Highbury Rise is calm, welcoming and inclusive. Residents are encouraged to take part in activities if they like but their wishes are respected if they'd prefer not to. A good place to be.

Mum has been looked after very well, and all her needs are carefully monitored and met, nothing is too much trouble, and I feel she is very safe here. Staff are very friendly and caring, and food is very well cooked and presented, with options for individual requirements. For a small care home, I think the standard is
very high.

Mum likes the staff here and we moved here easily in her residential care due to poor/under-trained staff. I can say I doubt we will ever feel the need to move Mum from here. It would be easy but wrong to take the tone of an instruction out of context. The staff here do a very difficult job, coping with residents with varying needs, very well.

My mother was admitted to Highbury Rise during the COVID pandemic. From the first telephone call with the home manager, we felt reassured. Mum has settled well, is eating properly, but most of all is safe. Although we can't visit at the moment, WhatsApp video calls and newsletters keep us updated....
My mother was admitted to Highbury Rise during the COVID pandemic. From the first telephone call with the home manager, we felt reassured. Mum has settled well, is eating properly, but most of all is safe. Although we can't visit at the moment, WhatsApp video calls and newsletters keep us updated. My mum-in-law moved to Highbury Rise from an independent living facility several months ago. She has Alzheimer’s and at the time was suffering with a distressing period of psychosis. What a relief for her to have been placed here. She is now totally safe and her care has been second to none. The staff are incredible and never too busy to talk on the phone regarding any concerns. Obviously, due to COVID restrictions we have not been able to see her in person. As difficult as that is, we know that this is to keep all residents safe. We do however have the opportunity of regular video calls with her. This keeps us connected and the staff support her well throughout the call.
My mum-in-law is happy and settled, she eats well and has made friends. Above all, she is safe and cared for in the way she deserves to be. Thank you.
