This home is situated in the market town of Hitchin, the name of the town is associated with the small river that runs through it. The river is known as the river Hiz on maps. Hitchin is significant for music all year round with many venues hosting regular events. This location is also conveniently situated just 9 miles from Welwyn.

The home itself is a residential home in a Victorian house ideally located for all amenities and is easily accessed by public transport. There is easy access via a large front drive and ramp to the front door. Parking is limited, however, there is also some limited parking on the road.

The rear garden has a dementia design landscape comprising of a figure of eight pathway leading to many seating areas and sensory flower beds. The enclosed garden is accessible via French doors from the lounge and provides a safe and attractive outside area for residents and their visitors to enjoy.

This is a residential care home to 22 residents aged 65 and over and offers specialist care for people living with dementia. The house is characterful and full of individual charm. The staff are all from the local area and a family atmosphere abounds. Person centred care is provided, personal care and support following a holistic approach to care.

There are easily identifiable signs around the home assisting service users to find their way around easily. The home affords two small lounges and a large lounge/diner. Activities are held daily in the larger lounge.

The Registered Manager Victor has many years' experience in care and joined the Company in 2024. The Hertfordshire provider assessment 2024 rating for this home is a 'GOOD' rating.

There are nutritious home cooked meals available every day and snacks and the residents have input into what food is on the menus.

The staff are welcoming, friendly and above all competent. Mum has been at Highbury for almost 3 years. The challenges faced by both resident and carers can be as pleasant as they can be extreme. The home functions effectively and efficiently and always strive to improve. Peace of mind for our family
is 100% The bedrooms are small but still practical and the home is undergoing refurbishment to a good standard. Food is excellent, homemade. Well done Highbury.

Highbury Rise is a very caring place with a dedicated and professional staff team doing their very best for the residents. My mother has received excellent care over the last 20 months since arriving at Highbury Rise. She has been treated with dignity and respect. The staff team seems very settled,
which is great, and there is a lovely, homely feel to the place. Everyone works with good humour.

Victor

Victor Mashiri

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2024

Victor joined the Benslow Care Home group as the Home Manager of Highbury Rise in November 2024 and has demonstrated his vast experience since his arrival, from his coaching and mentoring of staff to the person-centred care delivery for people residing in Highbury Rise.


Victor has worked across the health and social care sector in residential older people homes, domiciliary care and a specialised neurological unit and has been a Registered Manager before joining us.

Victor is working with his team to provide the highest quality of care and he is an advocate for embracing change and believes in openness, learning and development.


Victor and his team strive to maintain a happy calm environment, caring for staff and people residing at Highbury Rise with dignity and respect. Victor has an ‘open door’ policy and welcomes families, representatives and friends to come in and see him at any time.

We have a dedicated Engagement Coordinator, Kirsty, who has designed a varied program of activities and events suitable for all of our residents to enjoy. There are regular visits from the local reverend, as well as weekly visits into town, or out for a pub lunch. A host of community-based groups visit us to either chat, perform or read with our residents.
