Overall Experience

My mum was admitted during the first lockdown in 2020 and as you can imagine it was stressful for us as a family. The whole team at High View Lodge really helped put us at ease and kept me updated as at that time visitors weren’t allowed. As time has gone on mum has settled in well and loves her new home. Everyone is always friendly and I have never felt concerned about mums welfare. Mum loves her room and especially the view from her window! She has gained the weight she needed to and continues to thrive. As a visitor, I am always made to feel welcome and never a nuisance. All in all I am very happy with the home and the care provided.

This care home is currently under investigation by Social Services safeguarding team.

My Mum went in to continue her rehab and was there for 11 days and they kept telling me they had covid so I couldn't visit her. I finally managed to get in under the essential caregiver scheme and had to call an emergency ambulance. Mum spent 17 days in the hospital and 8 weeks later has still not made it home and may never fully recover from what they did to her.

I can not thank the wonderful management and staff at High View Lodge enough for the care and dignity thay have provided for my nan during her stay at High View.
She is due to leave there next week to go home to her own flat after being told by professionals that she would never walk again.
The first day my nan went into that home the manager said to us don't you worry we will have her up and back home in no time!
And wow what can I say she's done it!
I can't thank the staff at High View enough for the care that has been provided to my nan. She always had lovely things to say about the staff and me working in care myself was so good to hear.

Well done team High View you have done amazing you have been a pleasure.

Reply from Tracey Axten, Home Manager at Highview Lodge

I'm not impressed with the service my mother received at High View Lodge, Hemel Hempstead.
I have now moved my mother to a different care home where she is receiving a far superior level of care.

Also, I found communication with High View Lodge very bad, some days I couldn't get through on the phone after trying over 10 times to call.

My mother has been at High View now for 14 months and previous to that she came in for respite a few times a year. I have always been pleased with everything at High View Lodge especially the respect and dignity shown to all residents but this year as we all know has been so difficult for so many people but the Manager and staff at High View have been exceptional. Under such difficult circumstances this year they have all worked so hard and cared so much for our loved ones and kept them safe and well. The pressure that the Manager and staff have had to deal with has been tremendous but they have always been so professional and helpful at all times. High View Lodge have been amazing through this pandemic and great respect to all the staff and for being so well lead by the manager. Thank you.

I cannot commend this Care Home more highly. The manager and her dedicated team have been exemplary before and during the Pandemic. I know my mother has been well looked after and the staff have worked hard to ensure they have been kept safe. Even before the lockdown. All the staff whether carers, site manager, cleaners or kitchen staff are dedicated to making life in High View for all the residents a pleasant and happy place. Thank you for all you have done.

Mum has been really settled and happy at High View for 3 years now. The staff are very caring to both mum and our family. Communication is very good and the management have been very proactive in protecting the residents from Covid while maintaining safe visiting conditions. The manager is a very hands-on manager who fights for the best for each resident.

Mum stayed for respite after a hospital stay. The care home staff looked after her so well. She seemed happy and relaxed. I was allowed to see Mum on a pre-arranged visit in the porch area with Covid measures in place. So good as other homes wouldn't allow any sort of visit. I love that there are resident animals in the home. Very lovely, quiet location with lovely staff and a super helpful manager. If we end up needing full-time care for Mum I would like her to go to High View Lodge.

High View Lodge's standard of care is exemplary, not only to residents who are partly paid for by the council but also to private residents. The standard of care by management and staff should be used as a benchmark for the whole of the UK. I'm so grateful my mother is a resident here.

I found the staff lovely but security was a big issue, my dad who has dementia managed to get out the main doors. When my dad came out he had no false teeth a lot of clothes missing and some money. I don't think for one minute it was the staff but every time I went to visit dad there was a resident going in all the rooms taking personal belongings which I don't think is acceptable. On several occasions, I have called the home to find out if any of my dad's belongings have been found and never had a call returned.

Found the staff to be very caring, supportive and safe. Excellent management, willing to listen to family members, and take appropriate actions in a prompt manner. All carers are very friendly polite and caring. These are exceptional carers who consider and care for the residents like their own family members. Accepting and respecting cultures and values.

This home is very welcoming. The staff are excellent especially the manager and the senior staff. They treat everyone as individuals and tailor their approach fittingly.
It is very clean and the rooms are all bright and individually furnished.
My friend says that the food is good. The fact that residents can request snacks or help themselves is excellent.

My only negative is that it can get quite hot and stuffy. Some more activities for more able residents would be good.
