Robin Hood House is situated in Little Gaddesden, a small village within the 5000 acre Ashridge Estate, just 7 miles from Tring and 9 miles from Caddington. An area of outstanding natural beauty and a conservation area protected by the National Trust, Robin Hood House dates back to the 16th century and was once owned by the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, famous for building the Bridgewater canal in the North East of England.

The building was developed and built upon over the years by generations of the Brownlow and Egerton family and was eventually acquired by Stephen and Susan McQuinn in 1984. They arrived, with their young family and set about making a comfortable, peaceful home for themselves and their residents in what was to become the first home in the Benslow Care Home group.

Robin Hood House has 22 bedrooms in this beautiful listed building. The staff team offer specialist care for people, including those living with dementia. The house is characterful and full of individual charm. The staff are all from the local area and deliver care in this warm, friendly setting. The manager has coached and mentored the team and together they provide true person-centred care with empathy, understanding and respect.

Home cooked meals are served every day in one of the intimate dining rooms and a number of different lounges are available for the residents to use.

There are a variety of activities and events as chosen by the residents themselves. For those wishing to stay a little closer to home, a dementia friendly garden was completed in 2013, which allows residents and their families the opportunity to relax and reflect in beautiful surroundings whilst also being safe and secure. Deer and squirrels are often seen in the extended grounds.

The team welcome visitors any time and will be happy to chat about your needs in an informal and supportive manner.

Given the awful year that we have all been through, with care homes being on the frontline in the early months, I think Robin Hood House has done a fantastic job at trying to protect its residents and staff. With all the residents and staff now been vaccinated. Still top of the list must be the safety
of all those looked after in the home. Covid will be with us for some time now and hope you're getting full support and understanding from families. Thank you all for keeping our Mum safe, you're all doing a great job.

As my partner was on respite care and it was during lockdown, I was unable to enter the home plus it was his first time there. When I picked him up to go home, I was very impressed with his appearance. It was obvious to me that great care was given to him, also the care staff and management were very

Due to Coivd 19 restrictions, I have not entered the property. The property seems clean, tidy and the garden is well maintained. The exterior needs some painting (window sills). My Mother is well dressed, clean and seems to like the meals. Staff are caring and friendly. Homely atmosphere.

My husband has been in Robin Hood House for nearly 2 years. His health deterioration has been marked, and he is now totally bedridden and on a liquid diet as the possibility of swallowing is giving concern. The manager and staff have been very kind and sincere for his care and we are so grateful he

Robin Hood House looked after my mother for 4 years, and took exceptional care of her as her dementia took increasing toil on her faculties. My mother's dementia led to increasingly unpredictable behaviour. She became every challenging when being washed, dressed, toileted etc., yet the staff were extraordinarily

Dad was well looked after during his time at Robin Hood House.

Robin Hood House could not have been better at caring for my father. His advanced dementia did not phase them and they always gace him the highest levels of attention and care despite some challenging times. My uncle was in Robin Hood House until his recent death. Whilst appreciating that the property is old, the staff particularly the senior staff, do an excellent job and we have appreciated all the care and understanding they gave to my uncle and especially the support they gave to me, as the family.

My 92 year old mum passed away at Robin Hood House having been cared for by staff who treated her as if she was their own mother. I never thought it possible that care staff could be so thoughtful and loving towards those in their care but I can only say that these people were like angels. They gave
my mum everything she needed and took the trouble to look after us as we sat by her bedside. I can’t recommend Robin Hood House highly enough to those who truly care about their loved ones.

My parent has been a resident in this home for 5 years and has been well looked after. She always looks well cared for and seems very happy. Some staff are long-term but a lot of agency staff also. Nevertheless, I would recommend the care the residents receive as very good.

Dad has been a resident at Robin Hood Hous for over 2 years. He has always been well looked after and is always treated in a very dignified manner. The staff are very caring and very supportive of our family.


The home is a happy, homely and secure place for my dad to be living.


The only negative

is that a shower room needs to replace the existing, dated bathroom.

My mother spent the last eight years of her life at Robin Hood House, ending in her peaceful death in September 2018, and the care and support that she received went way beyond what you could reasonably expect. The home is calm and welcoming, decorated in a peaceful homely way that the residents recognise.
They spend their days in the communal rooms and so feel included in everything. All the staff are superb, they really care about the people in their charge. They are constantly laughing and joking with the residents, making the atmosphere happy and relaxed. Our wishes as her family were always important, there was regular contact regarding health and wellbeing, and in the last months, as her health declined, her needs were accommodated completely. The activities are well organised, there are regular trips out, and she was even taken away on holiday to the seaside on three occasions. I would recommend Robin Hood House to anyone who is looking for dementia care for a loved one.
