When in the UK I drop in every day for a short time. My mother is always busy with her friends when I arrive. The staff are always welcoming, my mothers friends are often with her so we can say hello. There are plenty of beautiful quiet corners we can sit and chat over a cup of tea. When I leave my mother is always enthusiastic about rejoining her community, especially if it is lunchtime.
Abroad I make regular video calls to keep in touch, so my mother can see my home, chat with my husband and, best of all see the cats. The staff always set up the equipment and make sure all is well. The garden is wonderful, the staff are always cheerful and helpful. Generals Meadow gives me great peace of mind when I think of my mother.
Our families who lived outside the UK really suffered whilst covid travelling restrictions were in place, which is why we implemented a 'video chat' and iPad video call/messaging facility at the start of the pandemic to aid effective communication. The soft iPad cushion that you recently purchased...
I feel many of the staff genuinely care for and are fond of Mum and treat her with both respect and warmth, all of which is top priority for us. They also helped us communicate with Mum via video call etc. during the pandemic; and nursed her back to health when she had COVID at 94. She herself when her dementia was less advanced would often say she felt the care was good and she felt safe and peaceful in her room. Both the building and garden are attractive and spacious and offer many good spaces for residents to enjoy. I believe there are also varied activities available but Mum has generally been reluctant to participate.
Your mother certainly went through the mill, contracting COVID in the hospital back in December 2020. We follow a good daily routine which she prefers works for her, and although she isn't one for joining in group activities, the staff will take her out for walks in the garden and have one to one chats. Thank you for your review.
I would not hesitate to recommend Generals Meadows. She was very poorly when she first got there but has really thrived. The team should be very proud.

My mother moved to Generals Meadow three years ago at the age of 90 with early-stage dementia. I can honestly say I have not seen her happier or more relaxed for many years. She finds the care both respectful and friendly and gets on well with the other residents. The staff are always so kind and have plenty of time for all the residents and understand individual needs. Each time I speak to my mother, she says - I don’t know how you found this home, but I am so glad you did. I don’t want to be anywhere else! This provides great peace of mind, knowing that she is not only safe but very happy.
The team at Generals Meadow would like to thank you for this review. Your mother is such a special person and loved by everyone as she is a kind person who always thinks of others. She appears happy and contented, which is also lovely for us to see as well.
We are delighted with Generals Meadow. My mother-in-law is very settled and happy there. She has a lovely room which overlooks the delightful garden. The staff are absolutely brilliant - so helpful and caring. My mother-in-law is always full of praise for them. The garden is a huge bonus, residents can walk in it or go in a wheelchair and we've spent lovely afternoons there.
Your review is appreciated, especially the comments about the staff who work at Generals Meadow. Your mother-in-law is a welcomed addition to the home; she is always polite and grateful and, indeed, makes full use of the garden and conservatory!
The staff at this home are just wonderful. They make me happy as my mum says. The management and owners are always responsive and extremely helpful. Making someone feel at home when they have given up their independence is a real challenge but by working together as a team that is exactly what they have achieved. I can recommend them with confidence.
All of her needs have been catered for, and the staff are all very professional and most caring.
Thank you for your review of Generals Meadow. It's a pleasure to have your mother with us - she certainly seems to enjoy the company and activities.
I have been visiting my elderly neighbour since April 2022. I have always found the standard of care excellent. The home is a professional but friendly environment. Staff and management are approachable and efficient, showing positive attention to detail.
Your comments will be passed on to the rest of the team.
During Covid the owners have been extremely diligent and have an outstanding track record, I felt that we were in safe hands during an extremely tough time.
The home is always immaculately clean and tidy.
My nan is treated with such dignity and kindness, even whilst being immobile and needing to use a hoist for transferring and toileting. You'd never know her physical and medical troubles because she's always well-dressed, hygienic and put together. I know this takes time and a joint effort.
I'm greeted with warm hospitality, the staff all know who I am and I feel confident with what they tell me, communication is great. Above all, my nan is happy.
Thank you for the acknowledgment of the challenges we have faced in recent years and how we have managed them. It has not...
The Covid security is good with all visitors required to take a Covid test before entry.
Altogether, I am very impressed.
It's lovely to hear your feedback that your relative is happy and safe under our care. We take a lot of pride in our appearance and facilities to give our residents and visitors the best experience possible.
During my father's stay at the home, the staff have been caring and attentive. They utilised other healthcare service providers, and along with the staff's hard work, they have managed to assist my father in walking again, when on arrival just over a year ago he was only able to move around using a wheelchair. I cannot recommend this home enough for anyone wishing to find a placement for themselves or a family member. All the residents appear happy whenever I visit, which is weekly at this time and all are encouraged to mix in the beautifully laid-out manor house and gardens. You will be hard pushed to find a better-run residential home and dedicated staff.
As you said, it's the team of dedicated staff and health professionals, including your father all working towards a common goal and not giving up.
I remember when he first moved to GM from another local care home he...
We are very pleased with the care provided to my father, he is extremely happy here and has also put almost a stone in weight on since moving from a previous care provider. It is also nice to deal with staff who show the care and dedication we could hope for, a pleasant change from facing agency staff at other locations.
We thank you for taking the time to submit a review about us. It makes us very proud to hear the feedback that your father and family are pleased with the care and progress which has been made during his time with us. We do not use agency staff at all, so yes this does provide continuity of care...
My mother-in-law is happy and thoroughly cared for by kind and professional staff in a wonderful setting.
We have found Generals Meadow to be the perfect home from home. The staff are lovely, always polite and have a smile on their face. They have all managed so well during Covid and the staff and management have all done their best with an extremely difficult situation. Nothing has been too much bother for them. I would highly recommend Generals Meadow for a relative to make the transition from their home to this one.
Thank you for the review. Your mother-in-law always looks forward to your regular phone calls and visits which is so important to our residents' mental health, it's clear that she has a very caring family. She loves helping out in the home and picking fruit in the garden. It's a...
Generals Meadow and its staff are wonderful! The politeness, personal approach, attention to detail, cleanliness, catering and indeed everything is second to none. I cannot speak highly enough of everything that has been done in the 16 months since my mother moved to Generals Meadow. She had become isolated, frightened, vulnerable and alone at her house and now she has true friendship and companionship and feels safe, loved and cared for in every way. Well done Generals Meadow, and thank you.
It's a pleasure to look after your lovely mother, who always has something nice to say to everyone. She is always cheerful, like yourself, and grateful for all that we do to make life a little easier. Your mother has attracted many friends in the home which is no surprise given her joyful and friendly personality.
I will pass your generous comments to the team.
After regular visiting, I have been unable to have face to face meetings until very recently - either in a purpose-built pod outside or now, after testing and in PPE, in residents' room. The home has worked very well to reduce covid and the staff are excellent. As a retired registered manager I appreciate this but continue (with the staff's approval) to send weekly letters/cards to those residents I knew well. A few have telephoned me and even sent me cards.
Your telephone calls and letters to the residents are very welcomed as is your visits now they have started again in care homes.
The other three were very depressing to visit: they all had a hospital-like appearance and, in places, an unpleasant smell. My sister is a very stubborn person and, if she had known, she would have refused to enter a Care Home. We, therefore, on the advice of her GP, told her a "little white lie" by leading her to believe that Generals Meadow was a luxury hotel (It certainly looks like it), specialising in providing accommodation for people in need of extra care.
Our initial favourable impression has been confirmed more and moreover the past six months. We have got to know many of the staff and are now fairly knowledgable about the way in which my sister is looked after. It is in all respects superb.
We are sorry to hear that the other care providers were not up to the standard you expected but happy that you found that the 'luxury hotel' environment...
My sister, brother and I were so delighted with the way our step-mother was cared for at Generals Meadow in her last few years. She found peace and comfort amongst the very caring staff, who did everything they could to make her comfortable, loved and respected. We could not have asked for better. Thank you so much.
It was a sad time for us all knowing that she was not going to make a recovery following her recent diagnosis, she was a...
My husband and I (he is the brother of the resident) are extremely happy with the love, understanding and attention which is given to the resident at Generals Meadow. In fact, although we are both well into our eighties and are fortunate in having good health, should we ever need to go into a care home, we would choose Generals Meadow every time! The building and its interior, as well as the gardens, are extremely well maintained.
Thank you for your review, which we are most grateful for. We have tailored your relatives care, which is quite unique, and we have learnt all her quirky ways. All the staff mention how nice it is to have your sister-in-law with us, and they enjoy playing solitaire with her any time of the day....
The care home on appearance looks good, some staff are very good and caring but on the whole many do not show any care or compassion. The turnover of staff lately has been unbelievable, food standards have deteriorated and a gold wedding ring went missing when my friend could not even leave the room. Had to ask a member of staff to clean her and her hands as she smelt awful. Manager!
It's such a shame and disappointing that you did not express your views about the home whilst your friend was being cared for by the team, as we promote...
