Maurice House is situated outside the coastal town of Broadstairs, Kent and enjoys picturesque coastal views of Joss Bay and the North Foreland lighthouse. Residents can visit the Charles Dickens Museum and Bleak House where he wrote ‘David Copperfield’. Maurice House is close to a range of local shops and tourist areas. Broadstairs railway station is a short distance away, with direct services to London and across the region. Visitors have an extensive choice of local accommodation.

There’s a shared bond at Maurice House because each resident has a Service connection. It means there’s a real team spirit, and a sense that everyone there looks out for each other. The combination of the lovely coastal setting, beautiful gardens and friendly welcome make Maurice House a real home-from-home for all their residents. There are spacious, private rooms, comfortable lounges with sea views, and a conservatory overlooking the gardens. But it’s not just the facilities that make Maurice House feel special. What sets them apart is the extra effort their staff put into ensuring all their residents get the most out of life here. Their dedicated team of care assistants and nurses are proud of the excellent work they do to make Maurice House feel like a really special place.

Activities run seven days a week and include exercise classes, arts and crafts, flower arranging, bingo, film and computer clubs. There are weekly days out, shopping trips and regular visits from musicians. Residents who enjoy gardening can continue their hobby in the greenhouse or by tending the raised flowerbeds. Those who are not able to join the regular shopping trips can make use of a weekly mobile shop and library. A hairdresser also visits the home every week.

My mother has been in the home for two and a half years and we organised a meeting with the management of Maurice House to discuss our mother's financial situation. The person we met was very helpful, understood our concerns and pointed us in the right direction with regard to organising support.
The
home itself is clean, bright, tidy and well-maintained and the staff are caring and diligent.
There are lots of activities organised if the residents are able-bodied enough to join in.

When my wife became a resident at The Lodge it was very distressing for us after 64 years married and never been apart, however, she eventually settled and started to interact with the carers. Every day I could see the excellent quality of care my wife received. The difficult times my wife experienced
were outweighed by the good ones. The carers would dance, sing and watch my wife play the piano and laugh at her sense of humour. As time progressed she became incapacitated after breaking her hip. She was so distressed and confused that she had to be sedated. The final stages of her life were very serene, carers would monitor her needs periodically and treated her with dignity. Our three children and myself stayed with her day and night to the end.
We were always made welcome and The Lodge became my second home. The care given by the management, carers and housekeeping is unique and priceless, they are without doubt sterling people and I am indebted to them for the care they gave my dear wife.

My mother has been in the dementia unit at Maurice House Care Home since April 2016. The care she has received has been excellent throughout, with caring and attentive staff, in lovely surroundings.
I am always kept up to date with any developments. Her longevity, ninety-three now, is due in no small
measure to how she has been looked after, including her recovery from a broken hip.

A comfortable, nicely furnished home in lovely grounds. Staff are attentive and caring and residents are provided with a wide range of stimulating activities and opportunities take part in visits around the local area. The menu is varied and of good quality and visitors are made to feel welcome. My
father has complex care needs but is always treated with compassion and patience. Medical issues are dealt with in a highly professional manner.

I must thank the manager and assistant manager for the smooth running of Maurice House and all Mum's carers who treat her like their own Mum. There are too many carers to mention but they are all kind and caring.
Mum's mobility has waned, but the care hasn't. As a family, quite often other duties call,
so it's reassuring to know Mum is in good hands. The food and facilities are excellent, I often fancy a break there myself getting waited on! It has a nice vibe and every member of the staff is very upbeat. Obviously, nothing is ever perfect, but any issues are responded to and resolved. There is always updating and improvement going on. The grounds are beautiful and restful. It's lovely to have a beer in the bar when Mum's up to it, or on the verandah in sunny times. Or grabbing a free coffee on arrival for a visit is nice. So all in all, top marks.

My mother has received first-class end-of-life care - all staff, from cleaning to nursing staff and management, have provided a caring, sensitive service. There have been challenging moments caused by her condition, which have been met valiantly! Maurice House does need updating - but the people who
work and care for the residents don't. The staff make the place a welcoming environment.

Mum moved into Poppy Lodge approximately four months ago. Her room is lovely and always kept beautifully clean. All the ladies/gentlemen caring for Mum and the other residents are extremely helpful and friendly. There are plenty of activities and the minibus outings are really enjoyable for Mum. The
food is really good - I myself have sampled the roast Sunday lunch.

Mum has been at Maurice House Care Home since September 2022. This was just as the rooms on her wing had been refurbished. The room itself is very plain with simple furniture and hospital bed, you are allowed and encouraged to make the room your own which is great.
The en-suite is amazing with everything
Mum needs and if she wants to have a bath there is a great bathroom with everything to assist getting in and out.
The staff have been excellent throughout, very approachable and nothing is ever a problem and they also always look in on Mum with a friendly face to see if there is anything she needs.
The activities downstairs are on throughout the day with a visual board for everyone to see and a printed leaflet delivered to all the residents. From carpet bowls, chair yoga to fun games like bingo, all are encouraged to participate.
You have a large patio with a pagoda to the rear leading to six acres for you to walk and explore.
We, as a family, are more than happy to recommend Maurice House.

The staff are very friendly, caring and available for any concerns. There are lots of different activities organised every week for the residents, and there is a good varied menu that caters for everyone's needs.

I took my father into Maurice House on 3rd September 2021 and I have never looked back! He is so well looked after by the team in Poppy Lodge. He looks so well and is dressed in the same combination of clothes that Dad and I would choose! All of the team really care about him, and all of the residents.
They are engaged on so many levels with the different activities and dad particularly loves the rides out on the bus.
I always thank everyone as I don’t think relatives realise what’s out there in respect of quality of care. Premises can be shiny and new but if you don’t have the team to deliver that top notch care (Dad's previous home a prime example) I was still worrying about him, now I don’t have to if I can’t get in for a week or two!
I can’t praise any of the team enough! Thank you for everything you do!

My mum moved into Maurice House in July 2019 and from day one was made to feel very welcome. She had a lovely room with an ensuite and the hygiene and cleanliness were of the highest standard. All the staff were very friendly and caring. Mum's health, drugs and wellbeing were closely monitored. Mum
enjoyed the gardens, the sea views and the activities, particularly the minibus trips.
All in all, an excellent home!

Mum lived at Maurice Lodge Dementia Unit for her last two and a half years. She was so well looked after, loved and cared for every day. The staff are amazing and always treated Mum with respect and saw the person behind the dementia. They are amazing people and deserve medals for all the hard work
and commitment we will always be thankful.

Father has been a resident for approximately two years. The room is spacious, clean and residents are encouraged to bring personal objects. Staff are always happy, polite and helpful. Full range of entertainments, activities and outings for residents stimulation. Visitors can make own refreshments.
The home itself is large, well decorated and maintained. There are no unpleasant "smells" which so often accompany care homes. Maurice House provides both residential and nursing care, depending on personal requirements.

Our family are so grateful to have found Maurice Lodge as Dad's new home. The caring attitude and respect shown to our dad and all the residents are amazing and so reassuring and heartwarming. Dad has a wonderful extended family at Maurice House. There is always something going on to keep the residents'

The staff are endlessly kind and helpful. My mother was helped last year when at the end of her life she found life very difficult. My aunt has said the food has improved so much and she feels cared for.

I have worked at Maurice House since 2011, initially as a Deputy Manager then in 2014 I became the Registered Manager. I am passionate about providing person-centred care for all of our residents and their families.


I am a Registered Nurse by profession and specialise in end-of-life care.
