My Grandma has just returned from 2 weeks rest-bite care at Upton house.
My mother cares for my grandmother full time and sought restbite care, so as we could go on our family holiday.

I was overwhelmed with sadness when I arrived as I have never had a relative in care, however this was short lived as I saw how well cared for, and happy my Grandma was. We sat in the beautiful garden having tea and ice cream, it was very much a home from home. Delighted my mother got a well earned break and my Grandma enjoyed her stay.

Upton House has been a much needed place of care for my Dad, he moved in at the end of May/beginning of June after a very traumatic few months. Upton House and all the staff have made us feel welcome as a whole family and they meet Dads needs so well. The care overall is excellent, consistent and is tailored to each and everyone's needs, so Dad is stimulated, encouraged and regulated well when distressed. The care of him and the other residents over this very hot summer has been excellent, ice lollies, plenty of fluids, shade and the outside for the breeze and top up of Vitamin D - this reassures us as a family and Dad loves it. In his words 'If I cannot live at home then this place is pretty good for an alternative'. The home is clean and well cared for and the staff are attentive and I can see the care they have for Dad and how they put their residents first in all that they do. Dad loves the food and the singers he loves. Thank you Upton House for allowing us to become family again

My sister has been a resident at Upton house since December 2025. Since that time she has received excellent care in my opinion with all the staff being very patient, kind and caring. Nothing is too much trouble and visitors are always offered refreshments on arrival.

My one negative is that residents are not taken out on trips, especially in the warm weather, though in the information it lists a minibus being available and the home does not have an activities person. My sister does complain of boredom at times as she has a very intelligent brain, there is not enough stimulation for her and this is concerning.

My mother has Alzheimer's and has been at Upton House for 4 months now.
The staff team support her kindly and with the utmost sensitivity so she feels heard, secure and settled. Staff always treat her as an individual and enable her to be as independent as possible.
Even when Mum says she would rather be at home she always adds the caveat, "but I don't get me wrong I'm not in a hurry to leave, I do really like it here, everyone is very nice".
My mother is especially keen on the excellent singers who perform each week. She has surprised us all with her love of dance. When the music starts, her eyes twinkle and she's up on her feet encouraging others to join her.
Mum loves her room and is frequently joined there for a chat or little tea party with fellow residents. Friends and relatives visit Mum daily and are always made most welcome by staff.

Upton House is more than just a Care Home. It provides a rural, homely, family feel where the staff have huge hearts and immense patience.

From arriving at the door the staff are welcoming, helpful, always recognise you and know who you are and have come to see. My mother is bed bound. The accommodation, bed linen and her bedwear are clean and well presented. My mother see the staff are her friends and possibly family now and they seem to be fond her too. Nothing is too much trouble. I would recommend this Dementia Care Home to friends and family with no hesitation.

There are several things I have noticed that you do not see when you are looking for a care home. The carers at Upton House have always been there for Mum whether it's a cuddle when she is having a teary, anxious day or just filing a broken nail. When I arrive, there is always a smile and a chat from the carers which is so reassuring when not sure what mood Mum is going to nine. The home itself always struck me as homely (unusual for a care home). They also decorate the home for events, such as easter and VE day which adds to a lovely atmosphere, to help Mum feel at home.

Mum has been a resident at Upton House for nearly three years now. We visit frequently and are always welcomed as though we are coming home, no matter what time of day (and often spur of the moment). On each visit, Upton still feels more like a country house with accompanying garden, than a care home. Knowing that Mum is so well-cared for has reassured us from day one, especially when witnessing first-hand the warmth and thoughtfulness shown by all carers towards residents. Always smiling and working so hard to make sure all residents are as comfortable as possible. Highly recommended!

My wife was a resident at Upton House, which is a specialist Residential Care Home for persons suffering from Alzheimer's and Dementia, for nearly six years. The Home cares for residents up to a maximum of 20. My wife was only able to exceed her life expectancy as a result of the excellent standard of care she received from the members of staff who looked after her with loving compassion and devotion, for which I will always be eternally grateful. I would commend Upton House to any family looking to find a Residential Care Home for a loved one suffering from this cruel and debilitating illness.

My nanna who has dementia moved into Upton House in November 2024 because my grandad's health has deteriorated and is now unable to look after her. Since the day she moved in, I have absolutely no complaints the staff here are amazing and nothing is too much trouble for them and have really taken care of my nanna. She is being really well looked after, they have entertainment for the residents, which my nanna really enjoys. The chef makes brilliant homemade cakes daily and fresh meals. My nanna is really happy here and is always clean. If she needs a doctor or anything they sort that out for her, the communication is brilliant between staff and family members. I am extremely happy that I chose Upton House for my nanna 10/10.

Upton House is wonderful. The manager and her team provided dignified care to my mum at all times. All staff are friendly and caring, they looked after Mum well and always with a smile for her. You could see they really care. It's difficult seeing a loved one move to residential care but I can 100% say that the team made such a difference to Mum in her time there, we were reassured that she was in the right place. The support to us was also there from the owners and all the team. We are so grateful to them all and cannot thank them enough for looking after Mum like one of the family. It's a beautiful home with a lovely garden, entertainment, homemade cakes and well-cooked food - every little detail is thought about, the chef tailored meals to encourage Mum to eat. They have a dedicated staff member to make sure the residents have everything they need and a lovely team who look after the rooms. Too many things to mention in one review, but in summary highly recommend it.

My grandad currently resides at Upton House. We have found the grounds, facilities and staff all to be perfectly suited for his needs. The care home is a lovely old building with idyllic surroundings and situated just a stone's throw from Sandwich where my Grandad lived for most of his life. We do not get to visit as often as we should due to work constraints, however we are always kept well informed and regularly updated by the care team who go above and beyond to ensure Grandad's needs are met. Very happy with the services provided by the team and are relieved that Grandad is looked after well and in the right place.

Upton House was a perfect place for my brother-in-law. He had isolated himself during the pandemic and was in great need of good care. Since we live in the United States, it was especially important that we knew he would be in a good caring, safe, lovely place where he could flourish. Once settled in he 'came back to life', eating well and interacting with other residents and enjoying his life again. Many times we have related to friends and family about what a wonderful place Upton House was for him. We are very grateful to the staff and the owners for his good care.

After months of solitude, my dear friend spent his last weeks at Upton House.

I couldn't have thought of anywhere better. He had a lovely room overlooking the garden, great food and lots of care and company, he was relaxed and happy. Thanks to all the kind and caring staff.

Upton House is a very special place. It offers a dignified and caring environment for its residents and their families to enjoy what is a very upsetting and challenging time within a family. The care I see on display, not only to my mother-in-law but to all the residents, reassures me she is in safe, caring hands. The staff are always friendly, professional and happy to welcome us inside, with the offer of coffee and cakes. We would highly recommend this care home.
