Review from Thomas M (Brother of Resident) published on 24 March 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My sister moved to Furze Hill Lodge in January 2023. I am very pleased with the care, and support given by all carers. The management is open and transparent. They always keep me updated with everything about my sister. My sister has not looked so well in a very long time and that's all down to the care and support of the team. The manager is always there to answer any of my queries. My sister is involved in daily social activities that she talks about to me at each visit.

Review from D B (Brother of Resident) published on 21 March 2023 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My brother has dementia and is very well looked after and is happy and content. What is important for him is that he can interact with residents and staff every day. He gets plenty of attention and is very comfortable. I appreciate that the management and staff are very caring, despite that there are occasional difficulties with a few of the residents because of their confusion.

My friend has been in the home for two and a half years and the staff have given her a high level of care. During the last few months, her health deteriorated and the care and respect shown have been at a level that would take some beating.

Overall, the visit was very pleasant. The staff were friendly and approachable. The activities coordinator took the time to update my brother and me about recent and upcoming activities. I feel he is an asset to the home. My grandad seemed well, comfortable and very relaxed in his setting. It was very nice to see him in a calm environment with other residents. I am very pleased with this home.

Greeted pleasantly when arrived. Offered drinks.
The staff are warm and welcoming, and one member of staff was excellent! You can tell he really wants the residents to have a loving time.

In the TV room, there was a resident who was clearly distressed, and it took a while for her to be cared for. I understand that the staff are busy; however, it was upsetting other residents.

I always find the staff very helpful and, most importantly, very caring when looking after my mother. She is very old and frail but is encouraged to join in activities and participate in quizzes etc. My wife and I were invited to join my mother for lunch, which was thoughtfully prepared in her favourite part of the home. The management keeps me up to date with my mother's care plan and what particular care she needs.

This is a friendly and homely, small care home. The staff are caring and kind and treat residents with respect. Good food is provided from the well-equipped kitchen. The activities manager is full of energy and great ideas to make residents' days as enjoyable as possible.

I always find this care home to be warm, friendly and welcoming. It always looks and smells clean. Over the last three months of visiting my mother, I have noticed a great improvement in the provision of activities, which is so good to see and really enhances the experience of living in a care home. These activities are run with enthusiasm, care and understanding of different abilities. The home also seems to be run very efficiently.

My mother stayed here from June 2022 to July 2022.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff seeing to my mother.
I had peace of mind with her staying here, especially nighttime in case of falls I knew she was well looked after.
She had a lovely room overlooking the well-kept gardens.

There is also a conservatory that one could go to if they didn’t want books,TV. Etc.

Overall Experience

Our Mum has resided at Furze Hill for over 3 years now and throughout that time we have had very little to complain about. The care is excellent and throughout the Covid period the staff gave all they could to her comfort and helped us to stay in touch regarding visiting, PPE and testing as required. Currently we are very pleased to hear that a new Activity Co-ordinator has been appointed because Mum really thrives on creative pastimes which she she has done through her whole life (very talented in all areas). She shows us that she is very happy and contented with her life style at Furze Hill which means so much to us. All the staff are very welcoming to us and the team appear to be very happy in their work allowing the ladies and gentlemen residing there the dignity and respect they deserve.

Furze Hill Lodge were able to accommodate my mother's respite care for 1 week when her usual home did not have capacity. They were very accommodating and friendly and my sisters enjoyed the informal visiting arrangement they have in place.

I think the success of the stay came from my mother directly, who will be happy to return to the care home for her next respite care week in a month's time. She found the carers very helpful and friendly and enjoyed being in the relaxed atmosphere that the staff create at this home.

Overall Experience

The care and support that our mother received throughout her time at Furze Hill was excellent. She was very happy there, was well looked after, and felt surrounded by love. The staff and management showed her so much compassion and kindness during the last few weeks of her life - nothing was too much trouble for them, and they ensured that mum was carefully monitored so that she was comfortable and peaceful during this time. The Team also provided support to my brother and me when visiting, always making time to chat, answering any questions that we had and reassuring us, especially when her life was drawing to a close.

They were compassionate and kind to us when she passed away, making this difficult time easier to bear. We have been left with lots of happy memories of our mum's time at Furze Hill including the many activities she told us about, or we experienced first-hand with her, especially the summer garden parties, Christmas gatherings, and the many craft sessions.
