Opened in 2020 to assist the NHS with the Covid-19 pandemic, Coast Care Centre is a purpose-built 43 bed home specialising in nursing dementia. It is situated in the very peaceful area of Bexhill, close to a beautiful and accessible seafront.

The home enjoys 2 large communal lounges, which are accessible for people with a variety of mobility needs. There is also a lovely dining area in the conservatory, overlooking neighbouring fields, where fresh home-cooked meals are served daily. There is full lift access to all rooms, all of which have an en-suite toilet and shower wet room. Coast Care Centre also has a large patio garden, where residents can enjoy the warm, coastal sunshine.

Staff are passionate and committed in providing the best care for residents in a loving, family environment. They focus on the unique personalities and beliefs of those they support and ensure that everyone they care for experiences the best possible quality of life, whilst maintaining the highest level of independence.

There are trained nurses on each shift who are able to provide a wide range of treatments and clinical oversight to ensure residents are kept safe and where possible, hospital admissions are kept to a minimum.

Friends and relatives are always welcome to visit the home as an extension of the Coast Care Centre family. As well as encouraging regular visits, they are proud of their progressive Person-Centred Software which gives permitted family and friends access to photos and live updates via a family relative portal.

The staff are welcoming and pleasant the outside and inside are well looked after and clean. The staff are helpful and understanding of the complex/specific needs of my aunt. My visits are always difficult and upsetting but the support of the staff makes it easier.

I only know the resident through our church family roll. She is a widow with no family & few friends, as she tends to be rude to people. I have taken her shopping & on days out for more than 10 years, but she is not at all appreciative. Your staff have a lot to put up with!

All the staff have been brilliant, always friendly and helpful. The facilities are always tidy and clean. I come at all times of the day and have never had a problem parking or accessing the home.
P.S. The food is pretty good.

My aunt had some short notice respite here and the team were incredible, they supported my family through a difficult and stressful time but most importantly they treated my aunt with such kindness and exceptional care we really couldn't be happier and highly recommend this home, the staff were so helpful

From the very first visit, I found the staff to be caring, friendly & passionate about their patients & work. The atmosphere within Nightingales is warm & friendly. My sadness is that my friend was not there long enough to enjoy this fully. I was, however, glad that she was able to stay there where

I have only visited three times, but I am quite impressed. The staff are lovely. If I was a patient, I would be very happy to be looked after by the staff. It's nice to see the patients being kept active and amused. Apparently, the food is very good. Overall, a very nice, caring place.

My mum was admitted to Coast Care Centre from Hospital and since she has been there she has received the upmost care, her room is lovely and the staff are very helpful they don't just plonk them in front of a television they have days out and keep the residents entertained.

Generally very good care although my relatives wishes are not always easy for them to express.
Some foods issues but usually addressed.
The room is clean and tidy and has been personalised as much as possible.

The staff show exceptional caring for residents, taking time to get to know individual needs. The staff certainly earn their probably below average wages, and do so with a smile.
We have always been impressed by the general atmosphere of the home, and cleanliness of the place.

My Mother was placed into Coast Care from being in hospital. My Mother has dementia and can get extremely unsettled but Coast Care have amazing staff who have really worked hard to make her feel at home and settled.

I have the utmost respect towards the staff at this care home. What I have seen coming here for the last year is the care and kindness that the staff show the residence. As a son I know that my mother is well looked after and is most importantly safe. She has regular days out to various places which

This is the second stay I have had at Coast Care and again it was a lovely stay. The staff and the support they provide is exceptional. As a 23-year-old, it is always hard accepting care, especially having to go somewhere for a respite stay, however, the staff and management, they are all so welcoming.
The care and support the carers provide is great and they are always attentive to my needs, including being gentle when they can sense I am in pain. Shoutout to two staff members for always having a laugh and really understanding my care. I would recommend Coast Care to anyone.

This care home is fantastic, pleased my mum was allocated a space here from when she was discharged from hospital. Quality of care is fantastic, fully engaging with staff to clients' needs very friendly. Always friendly with visitors, offer tea or coffee every visit. Easy to talk to and express concerns.
Sadly my mum has to leave this place due to permanent care home, she loves all the staff.

Meet the Team (7)

Kevin

Kevin Dewhurst

Job Title: Owner Joined: 2003

Kevin, alongside his wife Lynda, started the company in 2003 when they purchased Whitebriars. Before this, Kevin had spent most of his career in the construction industry, before he decided he needed a career change.


Whilst Kevin did not have a background in care before this, Kevin quickly identified the areas of care that were failing and made it his mission to ensure Coast Care Homes Ltd was a leader in providing innovative outcomes and outstanding person-centred care. Kevin has been ever-present at all services and supports the management teams daily, offering experience and guidance.


Kevin’s inspiration came from David Sheard from Dementia Care Matters, and the ethos instilled by Kevin is present in all the services.

Lynda

Lynda Dewhurst

Job Title: Owner Joined: 2003

Lynda, alongside her husband Kevin, started the company in 2003 when they purchased Whitebriars.


Lynda has been involved with the shaping of Coast Care Homes since the beginning and has been a driver in ensuring the homes are welcoming and have a homely feel. Lynda has been integral in helping to ensure the company has a positive Social Media presence, which has contributed massively towards the excellent reputation that Coast Care Homes have in the East Sussex area.


Lynda’s day-to-day involvement is in guiding the Activities & Outcomes team, to ensure Coast Care Homes sets itself apart from other local homes in the area, by providing Outstanding Outcomes. Lynda is also heavily involved in planning regular Staff Appreciation events, ensuring that staff feel valued when working for Coast Care Homes and improving staff retention.

Bill

Bill Poore

Job Title: Operations Manager Joined: 2012

Bill started with Coast Care in September 2012, starting at Whitecliff Care Home as a Care Assistant. Bill joined Coast Care after caring for his grandad who suffered from Dementia & Parkinson’s Disease.


Bill has a Level 5 Degree in Health & Social Care and has worked in several roles within the company, including as Manager at Coast Community Care, Whitebriars and Coast Care Centre. Bill has helped to foster a caring culture within the homes and has helped to develop processes that allow the Coast Care Culture to be given to clients who have Complex Nursing needs.


Bill’s strengths are in his focus on promoting high revenues and increasing profitability, contributing to increased revenue streams across the services managed.


Bill is currently involved in an Operational sense for all the services, however, he has day-to-day involvement with Coast Care Centre & Coast Community Care, supporting the management teams at these services.

Danielle

Danielle Henderson

Job Title: Operations Manager Joined: 2020

Danielle Henderson has worked for Coast Care Homes for over 13 years. From the start of her employment with Coast Care, she has always shown great passion, empathy, and loving support to those she has cared for.


This approach has translated to other relationships with residents' families, health professionals and staff teams.


Danielle has risen from a carer role to Team Leader, Deputy Manager, Home Manager and now an Operations Manager.


Danielle is a fantastic communicator and motivator, she spends many hours in constant supervision building her management and staff teams and helping them to deliver an extremely high level of person-centred care. She ultimately though, has a very special and consistent relationship with her residents, always trying to discover more of their own unique personalities and working hard with her staff and activities teams to connect and meet all their emotional and physical needs.


Danielle has helped to foster efficient and hardworking teams, whose primary focus is ensuring that the residents have the best lived experience. Danielle is currently involved in an Operational sense for all the services, however, she has day-to-day involvement with Whitebriars Care Home, Whitebeach Care Home & Whitecliff Nursing Home, supporting the management teams at these services.

Lindsey

Lindsey Sherwood

Job Title: Operations Manager Joined: 2022

Lindsey started with Coast Care in January 2022, joining the company as an Operations Manager. Lindsey has lots of experience in care, and before joining Coast Care Homes, had been overseeing other homes locally. Lindsey is passionate about person-centred care and it’s because of this, that she has been such a good fit at Coast Care Homes.


Lindsey’s strengths are in her calm and caring nature, which allows her to never be flustered and is excellent at problem-solving in moments of difficulty. Lindsey has also shown strength in her staff management skills, in being able to effectively communicate Coast Care Homes's vision for all staff joining the company.

Tee started with Coast Care in August 2020, originally joining the company as an Admin Assistant at Coast Care Centre, before becoming then Co-Manager in June 2023.


Tee joined Coast Care Centre during the pandemic, assisting the service to successfully manage over 350 admissions and discharges within the first year.


Tee has worked in various care settings since 2004 and has lots of experience working closely with children who suffer from profound physical disabilities.


Tee’s strengths lie in her strong commercial focus, which has helped Coast Care Centre reach record income levels. Tee has also brought a wealth of knowledge in Complex Conditions, which has been a key reason why Coast Care Centre has been able to successfully complete packages for clients with complex needs.

Louis started with Coast Care in April 2020, originally joining the company as a Care Assistant at Coast Care Centre, before becoming then Co-Manager in June 2023.


Louis joined Coast Care Centre after wanting to pursue a career in care, following helping to care for both of his grandparents and finding he had a real interest in caring for the elderly. Louis has progressed very quickly and quickly emerged as an excellent leader amongst the care team and quickly developed into the management team.


Louis strengths lie in his strong staff management skills and his ability to manage numerous responsibilities and duties. Louis is currently the Co-Manager alongside Tee Small and this has given the management team a perfect mix of skills, as well as giving the home the ability to have a manager on the care floor, supporting the care team, more often.
