My mother had a weeks respite care and during that time, although staff were pleasant and helpful, there were a number of issues which gave cause for concern;
1. 24 hours after admission, Mum was admitted to hospital with confusion and dehydration.
2. Despite being told on several occasions that Mum
needed assistance and a straw to drink, on at least 3 occasions we witnessed Mum being served a drink in a heavy mug with no straw.
4. When I picked Mum up, she was not wearing a bra, was not wearing her own clothes, her hair was not combed, her legs were badly discoloured and dry (cream needs to be applied 2 x day), she was taken to the toilet but when I got home found her bottom had not been wiped, her socks and slippers were wet.
5. Mum was sent home with someone else's clothes and at least 7-8 items of her clothes were missing.
6, Impossible to contact the home by phone or leave a message after 5pm.
7. Signage and web references suggest another care provider ownership but it was sold in April 22.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are sorry you feel this way and that you had a negative experience. We are pleased that you recognise the staff were pleasant and helpful.
We do not feel the review is reflective of the care we provide. For example, care staff followed the correct procedures in contacting the paramedics and it was ultimately the paramedics who made the decision to admit Mum to the hospital. Further, on the day of discharge, Mum was well presented and no concerns were raised at the time. The clothing, as discussed, was in the laundry being cleaned and was collected by you within a few days of discharge. No items were missing.
We were pleased when you made the decision to extend Mum's respite and we were unaware of the issues you raised. We don't have a record of a formal complaint and would be happy to discuss this in more detail. We always strive to provide the highest quality of care and we will use your feedback to improve peoples' experiences.

A lovely home in a lovely area. I felt there was a shortage of staff, the time to answer the bell was 25 mins which in the case of emergency is far too long. (I did not have an emergency.) The staff were lovely and helpful (when they had the time).

If you were staying in charge, extremely likely. You gave Mum the best care always; she loved it with you. You have been so kind and thoughtful to Dad when he visited Mum. This gave me peace of mind. Since her death last week, we have had so much support, which we are so grateful for. We have nothing

My mother stayed in this home for a few months. This home is very clean and has a very welcoming feeling. The staff are very hard workers. They have all looked after my mother extremely well. My mum was happy there. The office staff are amazing, always have time to answer any questions I had.

My mother has lived at East Dean Grange for over three years now. She always seems happy and content, and the place feels much more like a home and a family than an institution (unlike some other care homes I have visited). The staff have kept her safe throughout the pandemic and they are clearly very
fond of her. The standards of care and attention to detail are outstanding, and they also go to great lengths to make the family feel welcome too. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a kind and loving home.

Mum has been at East Dean Grange for three months now. She is the most settled she has been for a couple of years. When told she could stay there permanently, she was so happy.

On behalf of dad's family, I am able to confirm we are extremely happy with the care Dad receives. He is treated with kindness and respect - for example, the staff have taken on the role of "family" as well as carers during the Covid lockdown.
After a spell in hospital recently, he was welcomed back
with genuine warmth and concern. And offered full support to enable him to settle back and pick up from where he was. For example, the home has been able to ensure his diet was tweaked, so he regained the weight he had lost as an inpatient.
The way the staff addressed the necessary restrictions during lockdown meant that Dad was comfortable and reassured - as were we. As we come out of lockdown and visits are starting up, the way these are handled is exemplary.
Dad is looking forward to getting into the garden and participating in activities now these are being introduced again.

I am very happy indeed with the quality of the care provided to my aunt, who has been a resident for 12 months. It has been a joy to see how she interacts with the care home staff, who are so kind to her. Although she has Alzheimer's, she is very alert to the way people treat her and is quick to value
the attention and care she has received. Since regular visits have resumed, I have been so impressed with the quality of organisation of each visit, not to mention the care for my aunt's safety and for my own. Nothing is too much trouble for the dedicated team who have facilitated these visits.

Mum is well looked after and well-fed. Whilst I know it's difficult at the moment I do feel more one to one activities could be done when communal activities aren't possible or the person doesn't want to do painting/colouring etc.

My friend is very happy here and chose it after spending a two week respite period. The staff are very friendly and caring and the home is in a lovely part of the area where my friend had lived independently for over twenty years. I have been more than happy with the standard of care given to my mum at East Dean Grange Care Home. The staff are very caring, patient and friendly, and I feel she is well looked after there. I am always kept informed of any changes with Mum straightaway. It is very difficult at the moment with not
being able to visit due to Covid-19, but the staff have allowed me to talk to Mum and also have provided Skype calls, which makes a big difference when you're missing someone. I have no hesitation in recommending East Dean Grange Care Home.

I am very satisfied with the care my sister is receiving. The contact with the care home during the pandemic has been very good. I have been able to ring anytime and also they have been good at contacting me through emails. The setting and ambiance has been perfect in keeping my sister calm and happy.

I am a weekly volunteer at the Grange, with my small therapy dog, Ruby. I have been doing this for almost 12 months. Whilst I am in a limited position to comment on the various facilities, I should like to comment on the staff and their treatment and interaction with residents, on every occasion when
I have visited. There is a sometimes held misconception concerning staff within this industry and they are usually undervalued. I see staff doing a hugely difficult job, the difficulty of which is underestimated, with care, patience and professionalism - and often genuine affection. Well done to all of them.
