Mum was a resident at Whitegates from October 2019 until her sudden death in January 2021 (not COVID-19). The home is well managed, all members of staff are professional and extremely caring. Whitegates is homely and clean. The grounds of Whitegates are delightful with a lovely large outdoor seating area. Summertime saw Pimms parties and al fresco dining being enjoyed by residents. The food is well presented, varied and beautifully cooked. A wide variety of entertainment is provided, Mum looked forward to participating in activities. During COVID, relatives were kept up-to-date with all relevant news and information at Whitegates. I was relieved that Mum was safe and had company during this awful time. Whitegates has its own Facebook page, allowing friends and family to view day to activities through photos and videos. We visited when permitted, the visits were very well organised and safe. Mum was very happy at Whitegates, thanks to the dedication of all members of Whitegates staff.
Thank you so much Janet for completing a review for Whitegates, we always appreciate feedback, and I have been able to share your review with the staff and they have all been very touched by the comments. Your mum loved Whitegates and would regularly inform me how wonderful Whitegates was to her....
This care home is the most perfect place to be in. The staff are really good about the Coronavirus. We have never had a virus, it goes to show the care they take to keep us virus-free. It is wonderful to be in a home where I feel safe and am very well looked after.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We greatly appreciate your kind words.
I have been very impressed by how Whitegates Care Home have handled the Covid-19 situation and have been COVID-free. The 'in house' activities have been very good and staff have worked very hard to keep everyone entertained. A big effort has been made in the gardens with hanging baskets and pots to give residents a lovely outlook and a conversation interest.
Thank you for your review. We greatly appreciate your feedback and are pleased to hear that Whitegates has made such a positive impression on the families of our residents.
The home is cheery; there is a wonderful entertainments team. All in all, really, ten out of ten.
Sue, many thanks for your kind review for Whitegates. It was such a pleasure for the team to be able to welcome Mum back to Whitegates for her final weeks and I’m sure that this made things much more comfortable for her, being in her own room with familiar faces around. I will share your comments...
My mother was a resident of Whitegates for the past three years but recently died. I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the management and staff at Whitegates for all the care, sympathy and sheer professionalism they exhibited - especially during my mothers final weeks. Whitegates is well managed and one has the impression that quality of care is given priority over any profit motive. The layout and rooms are of high quality and the standard of equipment is generally sound. I have nothing but respect for the outstanding staff who demonstrated their value over and over again. My mother did not like being institutionalized and, with her dementia worsening, would often make this clear to all. She was however still treated with absolute understanding, kindness and good humour. I am so grateful.
Thank you, John, for your review, It was a real pleasure for the care staff to look after Mum and be part of her life, she is already missed very much by all. I have shared your review with the team and they were touched by your kind words, we will all miss both of you visiting the home.
My mother was in Whitegates Care Home for approximately one and a half years at the age of 93-94, with early stages of dementia. After a short respite stay she agreed to move into a very nice, sunny room with French doors onto the garden. She enjoyed the daily activities, from flower arranging to bingo, plus visits by local children and friendly pets, and outings to local places of interest. The atmosphere is of a country hotel, helped by the scale of the place - 21 rooms, and the friendly, helpful staff and carers who look after the residents as though they are in their own home. Thank you to you all.
The staff at Whitegates have been very caring and helped my mother settle after a difficult time having two brain operations and losing her husband. It was a very upsetting time. But they persevered and were very patient and now she is very happy and settled. It's such a welcoming place, the whole family, including her great-grandchildren, enjoy visiting. We can't thank them enough.
Thank you A O, for this positive review that I will share with the staff, we are so pleased that Mum improved and was able to stay at Whitegates and is now enjoying life again. I know Mum enjoys all the family visiting her and we do too.
My mother has now been at Whitegates for 5 years, and she has always been looked after in a most caring and dignified manner. I am very grateful to all the staff for all they do for my mother. Thank you so much.
Dear Alison, Many thanks for this very positive review for Whitegates. We are delighted that you and your Mum are impressed with the care and service that you receive from the staff at Whitegates. We are very proud that you and Mum are members of our extended special family at Whitegates. Thank you, Home Manager
For anyone trying to decide about a care home, I would encourage them to visit Whitegates to see what they think. My initial one was that it is more like a country hotel with a friendly environment and, I have to say, my views did not change. A wonderful place.
A very pleasant week.
Excellent staff - very kind and helpful.
Excellent catering - always a choice and very well prepared.
Excellent!! Very homely, nothing too much trouble. Thank you.
My friend has been a resident for over 18 months, she recently described the staff to me as "The family I never had". I cannot think of a better tribute to the love and care she has received. Nothing in life is perfect but Whitegates and its staff are pretty close.
Thank you for a lovely tribute to the Staff and Whitegates most appreciated by all, we are very pleased that our residents feel loved and part of the Whitegates family.
My aunt's association with Whitegates goes back 10 years. During that time she received care of the highest quality from a loving and dedicated staff. There was always a warm welcome and a ready cup of tea for myself when I visited. Both her rooms were attractive, light, cheerful and pleasantly furnished.
It was a pleasure to have your Aunt stay with us and thank you for the kind words in this recommendation, your Aunt was a lovely lady and respected highly within and outside of Whitegates for her professional career and challenges, she will always be remembered and never forgotten.
It was ideal for this purpose. The setting was more like a small country house hotel and the staff were superb. I was very nervous about managing the stoma bag and my time here gave me much greater confidence.
After a second operation to remove the bag, I had no hesitation in coming back and I remain very happy with the service provided.
Always a pleasure to have Janet come and stay with us at Whitegates and we are delighted that Janet enjoyed her stay with us on this second occasion, we are also pleased that Janet is making a good recovery and we do hope that we will see Janet again in the future.
Thank you for the recommendation, Janet.
I am so grateful to the staff and management of Whitegates for the way they looked after my mum, they were so friendly, sincere and attentive, she enjoyed wonderful food and peace and quiet and looked so much better when we collected her.
This stay has given her an idea of what it is like to be in a retiremenet home and she informs me that she would be happy to return any time as it is so 'homely there'. My thanks to you all.
We are delighted Lyn that Mum enjoyed her two weeks stay with us at Whitegates and was feeling much better for her return home, we look forward to welcoming her again in the future.
My mother's care has been excellent. Since coming to Whitegates a year or so ago. Her health has improved and she is calm and content. My wife's mother also resides at the home, so we have double perspective.
It's always good to receive positive feedback when we have made a real difference to the resident's life especially when they can feel safe and content. Thank you, Richard.
Everything about Whitegates is beautiful. The residents have a quality experience and I believe this to be reflected in the fees. Uncle is an extremely difficult man and has found fault throughout his life, although even he has trouble finding fault here. Relatives are always included in activities should they want to be. There is a very positive ambience when entering the premises which is continued through to the individual rooms and the caring staff.
Dad went to stay at Whitegates Retirement Home when my sister and I were both on holiday. The care he received was 5-star. The staff were wonderful, the rooms comfortable and he really enjoyed the food and the entertainment. One of the things I really noticed was that the staff took time to interact with the residents and seemed to be genuinely interested and caring. While dad was at Whitegates Retirement Home, he became very poorly and was admitted to hospital. Upon discharge, he returned to the home to convalesce for 10 days and we visited daily. We felt he was incredibly well cared for and all his needs met.
She has been really well looked after, she has eaten well, looks amazing, is calm, but also has been occupied every day.
Dad has been to visit on many occasions and joins mum for lunch, and he has been made very welcome.
We have really felt mum has been safe and looked after so we all could have some respite.
Mum went to Whitegates for 2 weeks respite care. Everyone was very kind and welcoming, it made it so much easier for me to leave her and she settled in quickly.
She enjoyed the stay - company, surroundings and food. The break did us both good! Mum is looking forward to going again.

Meet the Team (5)

Michelle has over twenty years of experience within the care industry. Michelle Joined Greensleeves Care in 2009 and joined the team at Whitegates in 2024.
Michelle believes that the resident always comes first, and we aim to deliver high standards of care and maintain their independence in doing so.

I joined Whitegates in 1997 as a care assistant and then became a senior care assistant once I completed my NVQ L3.
I believe in providing a very good standard of care to our residents, I particularly enjoy the satisfactory rewards received upon doing this.

that all their needs are met; I work with a fantastic team of staff supporting each other. When I’m not working I enjoy gardening,
walking my dog, spending my time with my family, enjoying holidays on the Spanish islands and going out with friends for meals.

Being a senior carer can be challenging role but also one of the most rewarding and fulfilling jobs, for me it’s a way of life, and not just a job. Whitegates is my second home, we work hard as a team in providing our residents a healthy, comfortable and safe place to live.

I love working at Whitegates as it is has a great family atmosphere. We are very supportive to each other, our residents and their families. We have many events at Whitegates for relatives, residents and staff to mix socially giving lots of hilarity and wine. I like cycling, running and have a hectic social life with friends.
