My mother-in-law needed a place to stay so my husband and I could take a well-earned break. On our initial visit, we were made to feel very welcome and were very impressed with the staff and the facilities. There was a visit from the nursery school which my mother-in-law really enjoyed. The care home
is very homely, clean and well-decorated. The staff were kind and caring and we really felt in good safe hands. During the stay, my mother-in-law took a while to settle and I believe the staff went above and beyond to help her. When we picked her up she had obviously bonded well and was very happy there.

The staff were lovely and caring. The whole family were made welcome, including young great-grandchildren.
Medication or any problems with my mother-in-law were discussed with the family, with suggestions for going forward and the results were then shared with us. The home was light, attractively decorated
and each communal room had a different feel. The garden was lovely and safe to move around with a walker, stick or wheelchair. The activities were enjoyed, especially the visit of a goat, crafts, having nails done, people coming to sing or play instruments and the local nursery class visiting. Families were invited to join in for special activities each month. As my mother-in-law's health declined, the staff had special meals prepared for her and fed her when she needed it. She was able to avoid going into hospital and died peacefully in her bed, with the family there.

My Mother-in-law was transferred from the hospital to Meadowcroft in January 2023 as her dementia had worsened to the extent she could no longer remain at home, even with carer support. We chose Meadowcroft because of its homeliness and friendliness and this certainly proved to be the case. They involved
her in plenty of activities and were sympathetic to her increasing levels of confusion. During the last two months of her life, she required increasing amounts of support on a one-to-one basis and the staff were wonderful, particularly the management.
Reply from Vanessa Farmer, Registered Manager at MeadowcroftThank you for sending this review. Your Mother-in-law certainly enjoyed and had the benefit of all Meadowcroft can offer. She was a lovely lady and part of our Meadowcroft family. We miss her very much.

I was brought down to Shoreham by taxi having booked two weeks respite care after a total hip replacement. I immediately felt at home at Meadowcroft as I was greeted by a very pleasant lady who said "welcome". The food is excellent and plenty of it. The nurse appeared every day and gave the necessary
injections. There is plenty of entertainment and the residents seem to be very happy and contented. The staff couldn't be more polite and good fun. All in all, a very good experience and one I would recommend.

Mum's experience was very good. She came home able to do much more for herself and with more confidence.
The only issue she had was the size of the bed, which was a little narrow for her.
Reply from Vanessa Farmer, Registered Manager at MeadowcroftThank you for taking the time to give this review. We are so pleased that the rest meant that your mum was able to do more for herself and felt more confident. I am sorry to hear that she thought the bed was too small, the hospital beds are a standard size.

My sister came to Meadowcroft in the middle of November 2023. The difference in her mobility and mood has been amazing thanks to the care and surroundings of Meadowcroft. The staff are really caring and kind to relatives. If I had one fault it would be the ensuite toilet is small but the size of the
bedroom is excellent. Can fully recommend Meadowcroft.
Reply from Vanessa Farmer, Registered Manager at MeadowcroftThank you for taking the time to write this review. I am pleased that you can see a difference in your sister since she has started living with us.
I understand that the ensuite toilet is small and as it is a Victorian building we have to work with what we have although we are always striving to improve our facilities.

We have been looking at residential homes for my sister-in-law who now requires additional support. Upon entering the home it was bright, clean and welcoming and clearly has been redecorated recently. The residents had just finished lunch and were returning to the lounges or their rooms and were chatty
and happy. The deputy manager had so much great information to help us with our search and the staff member who showed us around was also equally helpful and friendly.

Thank you to the manager and team for looking after my husband while I had a much-needed break. Everyone was so friendly and the home felt much more like a home than an institution.
All my husband's visitors were very impressed with his care and found him on good form.
I hope to be able to use this
excellent home for respite care again.

My mum went into respite care for two weeks - she is 88 years old and has a home live-in carer who went on holiday. Mum was anxious about going into a home. From the moment she arrived, she was treated with kindness and grew to love all the staff. Mum made a few friends and enjoyed chatting. The food
was very good and she really enjoyed the entertainment. This will be our chosen home for future respite care and permanent care if required.

My father spent the last year of his life in Meadowcroft. He died peacefully in the home. Throughout his stay, he received excellent care. His needs were fully met at all times. He was treated with respect throughout and all staff members treated him with great kindness. Many activities are laid on
and staff got my father involved and even introduced a crossword activity to use his interests and skills. In his last few weeks, every effort was made to ensure he was comfortable and special meals were made to entice him to eat. The outstanding care he received enabled him to remain in the home and ensured his death was peaceful and pain-free.

Meadowcroft is a very welcoming and friendly care home. The staff are very attentive and professional. As you step through the front door it is like visiting somebody in their own home. Meadowcroft was home to my aunt for 5 years. The carers and original management were fabulous. Getting to know family as well as my aunt. We were extremely happy with the care our aunt was receiving. Sadly, following new management, at the age of 97 we were told that the management felt they could not
cater for her. We found a lovely nursing home but sadly a couple of weeks after the move which was very traumatic for her she developed a chest infection and passed away. As our aunt had only just left Meadowcroft after many years of calling it home, we felt it courteous that we should advise them. We were disappointed then that the management did not have the courtesy to acknowledge the event by replying to our email.
Reply from Vanessa Farmer, Registered Manager at MeadowcroftThank you for taking the time to give us feedback. We are very sad to hear of your aunt's death. The new management took time to get to know your aunt and she was given all the care and attention she needed but regretfully she soon needed nursing care and this is not something we can provide, as we are a residential care home and not a nursing home. We remember taking time to explain this to your aunt and her family. The manager has returned from sick leave and has responded to your email.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.818)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.818) out of 10 for Meadowcroft is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 47 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.818 for Meadowcroft is calculated as follows: ( (457 Excellents x 5) + (86 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 550 Ratings = 4.818
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Meadowcroft is based on 47 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 47 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
