The Roman's Care Home has a lovely family atmosphere. My sister is treated as a member of the family of residents.
Many social occasions are enjoyed such as coffee mornings, seasonal occasions, and summer barbecues. Quizzes are held in the lounge.

Dad has been in the home for about a year now and in my opinion feels safe and well cared for.
All the staff go beyond what is expected of them and Dad speaks very highly of all of them.
Food is very good and he certainly doesn't go hungry.

Mum has been a resident in the Romans for six years and has been very happy during her stay. All the staff, from those providing care to the housekeepers, kitchen staff, laundry ladies and the maintenance man and management, are happy, kind and helpful. The Romans has a very homely feel and I really
feel our mum has a second family now! Also, I want to say that during the pandemic I felt they went above and beyond and stayed cheerful when n they were having such a very hard time.
Reply from Becki Hatch-Diespecker, Marketing Officer at Romans Care HomeThank you for your kinds words. We are pleased to hear that your mum feels at home with her second family at Romans. I will be sure to pass on your kind words to all our team.

We chose Romans over the other care homes we viewed as it felt like a home rather than an institution. The public spaces are bright and airy and the garden is lovely. The care staff are very kind and patient and visiting relatives are always made to feel welcome. The management team is equally impressive,
being readily available to relatives and having a thorough knowledge of the individual residents and their needs. Efforts are made to provide the residents with activities and (pre-Coronavirus) regular outings, which my dad enjoys. He is also complimentary about the food. We're very happy with Romans and, most importantly, so is my dad.

Due to COVID-19, I have been unable to go inside the care home or visit Mum's room etc so can only go on the carers we have seen. The staff are extremely helpful whenever I email and are quick to respond. The carers seem to be very caring that we have seen and spoken to. Due to not going into the home
or seeing food or facilities, I cannot answer some of the questions.

I found the care for my mother extremely good especially the last few months when she was really ill. The rooms are a little bit dated but always clean. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. When my time comes I would happily move in there.

Mum moved into Romans for a 6-week short stay with the view of permanency. At the end of the 6 weeks and at a difficult time for the family, Romans made the transition to permanency as easy as possible. A very long period of worry had come to an end and the family has complete confidence that Romans
is the right place for mum to see out her later years.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.549)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.549) out of 10 for Romans Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.649 for Romans Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (128 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 188 Ratings = 4.649
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Romans Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2018

I started working in care at 16 years old. I left for three years and returned as a Carer, then progressed as a Senior Carer, then a Care-Co-ordinator and then a Deputy at our sister home in Worthing. I moved to Romans in March 2018 as a Deputy and took on the role of Manager in December 2020.

I hold a Diploma in End of Life Care, and Level 5 in Management. I am most proud of the family community we have established at Romans. At the weekend I like to read, cross stitch and go for a peaceful coffee.

I've been working at Romans for over 18 years, and started here as a Carer, moving to Senior Carer, and I'm now Head of Care at our home. I have a Level 3 qualification, and I'm working towards a Level 5. My proudest achievements at work have been learning new aspects of managing a care home, and I enjoy looking after people and ensuring their needs are met. Outside of work I enjoy going to the gym, spending time with my grandchildren and watching horror films.

I've been working here for over 17 years, and have completed a Level 3 in Health and Social Care. I think it's very important to ensure Romans is as homely as possible and I enjoy getting involved in the activities with the residents. Outside of work, I love reading and watching sports.

I have over 10 years of experience in care and have achieved both a Diploma Level 2 and Level 3 in Health and Social Care. I am also a TAQA Qualified Assessor.

Throughout my experience in care roles, I have undertaken many different qualifications and I am particularly interested in Dementia care. I participated in a course in London called Ladder To The Moon which was a person-centred learning course specifically about activities that can be carried out with individuals in the care home. This has been very beneficial to me in my job role. Whilst I am not at work, I like to go out walking and spending time with my family and friends.
