Review of Romans Care Home from Nicola V (Daughter of Resident) published on 29 July 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

We recently had the hardest decision of placing our beautiful mum into a care home. Luckily for us as a family we found the Romans. We cant express how grateful we are with the exceptional and warm care she has received. The management + staff members are genuinely so caring. Seeing our mum so happy has made what was an incredibly difficult decision so much easier. She has become more engaged, happy, and comfortable. We can wholeheartedly recommend the Romans to anyone looking for a residential home.

Review of Romans Care Home from Linda A (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Mum's admission to a care home was sudden following another fall at home and subsequently being advised that she needed someone around night and day. Mum said she would like to try Romans as a friend had been happy there for some time. She is now happily settled there and has become a permanent resident. Sarah and all the care team have been so welcoming and made the transition much easier for both mum and us her family. We have seen mum change from struggling to cope at home and too frightened to go into the garden alone to the more confident mum she used to be. She enjoys the company and has been on an outing. Being a smaller home the atmosphere is more homely than hospital, clean comfortable and hats off to all the brilliant staff who are helpful and friendly.

Review of Fair Havens Care Community from John W (Brother of Resident) published on 15 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My sister has been at Fair Havens since June 2024. She has dementia and advanced arthritis of the spine, unfortuantely due to reduced mobility and blindness she is now bedridden. She needs much care to meet her current condition and I am thankful that I chose this care community as the care provided is exemplary. On my frequent visits I am impressed with all aspects of the support my sister receives. All the staff are friendly and show great concern for her wellbeing. My sister is treated with concern and with dignity and there is always a willingness to engage in conversation with her despite her dementia.

I have to say that level of care given, and the concern of the staff for the residents was genuinely impressive. My mother unfortunately spent her last days non-responsive, and still the caregivers showed a genuine concern and warmth in her care, and had obviously had taken the time to learn much about her and were full of warm and amusing anecdotes. It's never easy looking for and chosing residentail care homes, but I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Alexander House to any in that position.

They also very kindly offered me the use of a spare room at the top of the building, as living a significant distance away, a daily commute would not have been possible for me. Again, the concern and care of all the staff was genuinely moving - can't thank them all enough.

Reply from Andrea Jones, Manager at Alexander House Residential Care Home Wimbledon

It was a joy and pleasure supporting and assisting your mom, she was a character, and is missed. We at Alexander House place our residents at the forefront of care, and as always we aim to do our best. It was a pleasure also having you here, it was important that we were able accommodate you, so...

My mother suffers with Alzheimer's and my father is her main caregiver, they are both nearing their 90th birthdays and have been married for 67 years. When my father became ill and was admitted to hospital I was all at sea as to how to cope, how to give my mother the care she needed whilst allowing my father the time he desperately needed to recover.

I contacted Alexander House at very short notice and they could not have been more helpful, there was a room available and my mother moved in within hours of my call. She has stayed with them for two weeks and the staff and caregivers have been absolutely wonderful throughout. From supporting me emotionally when I arrived with my mother, to accommodating her visitors, understanding her occasional distress and confusion at being separated from her husband and managing her very limited mobility, nothing has been too much trouble. We are so grateful and will miss all the staff and residents very much!

Mum has been at Romans nearly 5 years and is still happy and content there. Several weeks ago, Mum became seriously ill but did not want to go into hospital. The Staff/Carers looked after her beyond their remit, and had the patience of Saints! Mum has now made a significant recovery, and the staff continue to encourage and support her. They are so kind and friendly and treat her with respect and dignity.

Mum is mostly happy with the food and hopefully will enjoy participating in the quizzes again soon, as well as the Church visits and communion service. The regular residents' meeting, to discuss and iron out any issues and generate ideas from the residents, is a very positive aspect. We are so grateful that Mum feels she is in her 'home from home'.

Words cannot explain the care love and dedication that every resident in this care home is given it goes above and beyond and they care and love like every resident to the maximum

Not only that they also care and give love to residents family during tough times. The special bond I have made with the manager Andrea and the careers and activity coordinators over the last 2 years since my mum has been there has given me so much comfort and warmth in hard times.

No words can express how grateful I am to all staff at Alexander House xx

Review of Fair Havens Care Community from Maria G (Daughter of Resident) published on 11 May 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I have always been very happy with the care and assistance that has been given to my mother, always been treated with dignity. Recently, my mother celebrated her 100th birthday. I said I would come up early before the family fathering and get mum ready. When I arrived, she looked amazing, all dressed up, hair done and wearing a tiara and sash. 14 of us celebrated with a beautiful cake and some fizz (non alcoholic) for mum and the drivers. The sun shone, photos taken, and a great day was had by all. The best bit of the day was the card from the King and Queen. These people who care are all worth their weight in gold. Fair Havens is the best. Well done to Tracey and all the staff.

Mum went into the Romans for respite care . She was afraid of being alone at night , she had lost the will for self care and was eating little . Her mental state was awful and she felt she had no reason to continue living .
Since her stay ( now almost 2 months ) she has regained some confidence, is eating well and has made friends . The difference is amazing.
I see happy staff and a clean environment, I see enriched living with visiting churches and activities .

She wants to stay now . Thank you

Mum is very happy here, The staff are all fantastic, friendly and helpful, always have time to say hello and for a quick chat. The home is well appointed and well maintained inside and out, always clean and tidy and fresh. There are a good range of events for the residents, family and friends are welcome. Our family have witnessed a huge improvement in mum's general wellbeing since she has been in the care of the wonderful team at Romans. She enjoys the quality of the food and participates in quizzes and other events. The staff know her well and are always helpful, fun and encouraging. She loves going out in the garden in the summer.

Most importantly for us, we know that mum is safe and cared for in the best place she could be.

Dad is settled and his needs ate taken care of. I feel happy knowing he is safe and content. He likes the company, entertainment, church services and food. His room is warm, bright and comfortable. The staff are helpful, caring and friendly. On the negative side, sometimes his clothes go missing in the laundry and he ends up with someone elses', but he doesnt seem to mind and sometimes we are late to hear news eg if he's had a fall or if he's given medication but this is not an issue to be raised. Overall we are happy.
