This is an additional review on my mum's care she is receiving at Summerley. Over Christmas unfortunately mum became ill and required several visits from paramedics and a trip to hospital. On all occasions the staff dealt with the initial crisis superbly well making sure she was as safe as possible
while awaiting professional medical attention. On both occasions the staff were fully committed to providing a dignified and comfortable environment for mum. They informed me immediately as they could and updated as appropriate. Every time the staff remained with her reassuring and comforting her even when mum was very distressed. This dedication has continued over the last month, seeing the management contacting the local surgery and having tests done to ensure the best care for her. Mum remains unwell at this time however I have absolute confidence in the staff at Summerley to care and love mum to the best of their abilities.

My father has been in Summerley for over two years. The empathy and care the staff give him is excellent. They also keep me informed if there are any problems and are always there for an update and cuppa when I visit.

Mum sadly passed away very recently but she had been a resident at Summerley for three and a half years. The care she received from the very beginning was excellent and I cannot praise the staff highly enough, particularly during the last few very difficult days when Mum was on end-of-life care. The
staff were so kind and compassionate, not only to Mum but me and my sister, and kept us informed at all times.
We were always made to feel welcome and any questions or concerns were always addressed. Every resident was treated as an individual, as was highlighted at Christmas and birthdays when presents were chosen to reflect Mum's tastes.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough and would have no hesitation in recommending Summerley to anyone considering this care home. Cleanliness, meal choices and the caring compassionate staff are superb.

My dad was in the home for 16 months and had Alzheimer's. The staff at Summerley are so welcoming and genuinely incredibly caring. We visited regularly and were always welcomed, kept updated and made to feel part of the home. My dad has sadly passed away but all the staff were so supportive as he was
slipping away and they tried to make him comfortable whilst also comforting us. No words can really express our gratitude to all the staff at Summerley for their care of my dad.

My mother-in-law arrived at Summerley Care Home in May 2024 from a London hospital in a distressed and frail state. Immediately the staff made her feel welcome and at home and took great care of her ensuring all her medication was reviewed with a GP. During the four months that my mother-in-law was
there she was well looked after, dietary requirements well catered for and she settled in well. All members of staff from managers to senior carers, carers, night carers and assistants are hardworking to ensure that each resident's needs are met. They treat residents with respect and kindness. During my mother-in-law's end-of-life and palliative care all members of staff went out of their way to show compassion, exceptional care and kindness not just to my mother-in-law but to us as a family. We were always welcome whatever time of day or night.

My partner was discharged from hospital to Summerley Care Home. He was in poor physical and mental condition after 7 weeks in hospital. He has been well cared for and is much happier and healthier now than when he arrived. The staff from the most junior to the managers are all friendly, kind, helpful,
cheerful and efficient. As his partner, I have felt welcome. The phone is answered promptly. Problems are solved effectively and I have always felt that my partner was safe and cared for. Summerley Care Home is small and friendly.

Just about used to having a loved one in this care home, really couldn't have picked a better one. It's close to home situated in a lovely area close to the sea and above all it gives a home-from-home feeling. All the staff and management are giving exceptional care and the food is good. Couldn't be
more pleased.

It has been wonderful. The staff could not have been kinder to my husband and myself. All very clean and beautiful food. The activities are all very good seen by myself. My mental health team would like him to come here once every two months. I will ask if this is possible. They need to check that windows
in bedroom are closed when the sun goes down, we are only in March.

My mother left her current nursing home in Horsham, to live near me in Bognor. On arrival, my mum was scared and crying and demanding to go home. A little deputy manager greeted us at the door, and immediately took my mother's hand and guided her through the lounge and into a very beautiful clean bedroom.
The deputy was so kind to her and she made her feel so welcome and loved, plus we all had a well-deserved cuppa.
2 days later, I visited my mother again expecting some kind of a verbal rant, but nothing. She was sitting in a chair just looking around and taking it all in.
I looked at how clean and tidy she had become. For a brief pause at that moment, my mum had returned to me, that usual look and polished clothes. Then Mum looked up and showed a cheery wave. Phew she was ok!
To me, this home is like a home-from-home environment. The staff always make me laugh, and every one of them is always willing to help offer support when needed.

My Dad has been at Summerly since June and this turn of events has been very hard for us as a family. However, from the manager coming to talk to us to prepare us for my Dad's everyday care at Summerly, once admitted, I am impressed. Dad has Alzheimer's and is not overly aware of the change, but we
are. The staff (special mention to three ladies in particular) are so kind. It is hard to see Dad in a care home but I'm glad he is in this one. He has a nice room and he likes the food. They do activities and have musicians and a pet zoo come in. I'm glad my Dad has settled here.

My husband was admitted to Summerley very quickly and efficiently in June with Alzheimer’s and mobility problems.
Every effort was made to find the most suitable room for him, and before he went into the room it was thoroughly cleaned and photos of family and pictures of his football idle were put
around.
Management and staff were very efficient and kind not only to my husband but to myself too realising how hard it was for me. Any problems or concerns were dealt with quickly, and a note on his door tells the staff of his requirements for his comfort each day. We are kept informed of any issues and problems relating to his personal needs.

It was a difficult decision for us as a family to admit Mum to a care home. Sadly due to Dad's failing health, he could no longer manage all of Mum's care needs.
Summerley was the second home we viewed, and as soon as my sister and I looked around, it just felt "right".
Mum was admitted a few days
later, and I can honestly say it's as if she has a new lease of life.
She is so much brighter and shows more interest in life than she has done for some time.
The staff are unfailingly kind, caring, compassionate and alert to Mum's needs.
We, as a family, visit regularly and are always welcomed and kept up to date with Mum's care.
The atmosphere in Summerley is warm and friendly, and we couldn't ask for a better home for Mum.

Mum was booked into Summerley care home for a two-week respite. Bearing in mind, that this is all new to her and our family, the carers could not have been more helpful, answering questions as required and offering advice on visiting etc. She is due home this week, and rather than arranging a taxi,
the manager has offered to take her home himself to ensure that she gets back safely. You cannot ask for more than that.
Thank you to all at Summerley house.

My husband has been a resident at Summerley (Care Home) for two years. He has gone through changes in ability and care needs during this time, as his condition declined. The staff and management have adapted to his needs and treated him with patience, dignity and kindness at all times. They have kept
me and my family up to date, contacted the GP promptly with any health worries and found activities (or made original equipment) to improve his quality of life.
They are welcoming to visitors and create a family atmosphere within the home.
I have always found staff treating all residents and other visitors in a kind, compassionate, dignified and positive manner at all times.
Food and drink always look and smells delicious, and the building is always clean, warm and welcoming.
As I and several members of our family work in healthcare, we have experience in care homes. We all feel very lucky to have found this excellent placement.

My nan was a resident until she passed on 26 December 2022. I feel compelled to review her end-of-life care as it was the most outstanding level of care. In comparison to my mum's end-of-life care (provided in the hospital), it was excellent. I was informed immediately of my nan's declining health,
and I was kept in the loop of all medication administered and when it was given. Each time I called for an update, every member of staff was able to provide me with in-depth detail about her health, medication and any changes. The manager was able to explain her end-of-life care, what would happen and how I would be included at every stage. My nan was treated with love, care and respect, and her wishes were respected at all times, as were mine. Even though it was Xmas and she deteriorated rapidly, the staff were attentive, quick to call nurses for immediate pain relief and also make sure I was supported. I was allowed to be with my nan at all times. The staff played her music and comforted her when in pain. I can't thank them enough.

Mum has been at Summerley for around 4-months now with late-onset Alzheimers having been admitted there from the hospital initially on a short stay placement on Boxing Day. Due to Covid, Mum was in isolation for 14-days, which was extremely hard for the family as we didn't know what the home was like,
but from the moment we were able to visit her, we have all been really impressed with the home and staff with their kindness and friendliness to us all which has reassured us that Mum is in the best place to enable all her needs to be met. Easter Sunday was Dad's birthday, and upon his visit, he was greeted by the staff with a homemade card and a birthday cake with the staff and residents singing "happy birthday" to him. I cannot explain what this meant to Dad being the first birthday without Mum at home with him... so thank you to everyone at Summerleyfor their care, dedication to their residents and their kindness to us all - you go above and beyond.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.877)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.877) out of 10 for Summerley is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.877 for Summerley is calculated as follows: ( (306 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 342 Ratings = 4.877
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Summerley is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
