Westall House

The standard of care, compassion and support at Westall House has been exemplary. As the CQC itself says, it is outstanding. Westall House sets the benchmark by which every care home should be measured, in our experience, it has no equal.

Having been suddenly widowed during Covid and following a fall at home and another during her hospital stay, it became apparent that Mum needed more support than we could offer as a family out at work. Despite care attending morning and evening, Mum herself did not feel she could or wanted to manage at home anymore. Alzheimer's had progressed rapidly during lockdowns and further whilst in hospital. We looked at five homes in total and the moment we walked into her, now, room at Westall, it felt like the right place. The residents and staff were so friendly and using the communal spaces, unlike many of the other homes we had viewed. Mum moved in a week before Christmas and has not looked back. She is taking part in most activities, enjoying her days and socialising with new friends in her evenings. Her confidence walking has come on loads and the team are just amazing at encouraging and supporting her. We don't think she has looked as well or as happy as she does now for several years!

My mother, who has dementia, moved to Westall House in September 2021. Since then, I have been hugely impressed by the care she has received. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their commitment, dedication and deep interest in making my mother's new life there as happy and fulfilling as possible. I visited eight other care homes before choosing Westall and I am thankful to say my decision has proved the right one. My mother now feels safe, looked after and has a new purpose in her life. It is clear why Westall is rated as one of the few outstanding homes in the area, and I would not hesitate in recommending it.

We had kept our mum at home for as long as possible but it became apparent that she could no longer live alone in her home of 63 years. Westall House sprang to mind as Ma had already been there for respite four years ago. It was impressive from the start that many of the staff remembered her. It is still early days for her but thanks to the wonderful care and attention that the staff have given her she is settling well. There is a lovely family atmosphere and our mum is looking well and very rested. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are so friendly and positive.

I would thoroughly recommend Westall House to anyone considering this chapter for their loved ones. It is run with utter professionalism and loving care.

The care and facilities at Westall House are of the highest standard. It is so comforting to see Uncle being so well looked after. He is happy and contented. The interaction with relatives is good and it is so lovely to be able to see pictures on Facebook when we have been unable to visit during Covid restrictions.

It's early days - my mother became a resident in the brand new dementia wing around six weeks ago - but we were absolutely confident that Westall House is an absolute gem. Set in beautiful countryside, the home exudes an air of quiet confidence and professionalism in a tranquil setting. The staff have been wonderful and everything seems so personal and friendly because the unit is small and the team has been carefully selected. The building is absolutely brand new and very modern and comfortable. Best of all, my mother seems so much more calm and relaxed than ever before. Wonderful!

My mother is extremely happy here, she is really well looked after by all the staff who often go above and beyond the call of duty. Knowing the care and attention she receives at the home is a great relief for me.

Since moving to Westall House in 2015, my father has had nothing but happiness, respect and above all, wonderful care. All staff at Westall House contribute to a warm and friendly environment with residents wellbeing as their primary concern. Every team member makes so much effort and since the pandemic, they have gone the extra mile to make up for the loss of personal contact by relatives. Entertainment for the residents has continued throughout, with events daily to help pass the time in a great environment. The activities organiser is extremely resourceful and creative, finding ways to bring residents together and join in. Photos from the website and Facebook testify to the joy that this brings. We are so lucky to have found the right place for dad to pass his remaining time and he has enjoyed it so much.

My mother has been part of the Westall House family since 2014. How lucky were we to find somewhere like this. Mum had a trial week in the sheltered housing and quickly decided to make a permanent move. Three years later, she moved to the residential care side of things and has continued to receive the same warm, professional, friendly and expert care. Westall House is managed by an excellent team that are very responsive to any concerns or queries. The whole team work so well together and it shows at every level - it doesn’t matter whether it’s caring, catering, activities, housekeeping, facilities, gardening, admin or management, the staff work to the same values. Expert holistic care and delivered in a homely, beautiful environment, often with a healthy sense of humour. Thank you all.

I have been very pleased with the high standard of care that my father has received since he moved into the home. The staff are all very friendly and lay on lots of entertainment for their residents. They go out of their way on special occasions such as Birthdays, Easter, Christmas and many others, with cakes, drinks and entertainments. My father is very happy in the home which is a big comfort to all our family.

Back in November 2020, it was extremely difficult to get our mother to accept that she needed full-time care and that she could no longer cope safely, in her own home. She is and always has been, fiercely independent and determined, but the time had come when myself and my sister, worried constantly about her own safety and wellbeing. Added to which, like everyone else, we had the ongoing nightmare of Covid19. Fortunately, we had a lucky strike. A room became available at Westall House. It has been an absolute godsend for all of us. Each and every member of staff is caring and patient and they all seem to present with a cheerful smile. With the care and support that the staff continue to provide, my sister and I can relax in the knowledge that Mum is safe, happy, entertained and cared for at all times. Thank you to all of you. I would recommend Westall House to everyone needing to have their loved ones cared for.

Since my mother moved into Westall, the family have been extremely pleased with the care she has received. When initially looking for a care home, there was no doubt in our minds that Westall was the place to go. All staff took the time to acknowledge us as we were shown around and chatted to my mother, as well as some of the residents. Over the last month, my mother's health has deteriorated and she has been predominately bed-bound. The staff have risen to the challenge and provided exemplary care. They go above and beyond in ensuring the residents are well cared for in cleanliness and food along with well-organised entertainment. There is always something going on, and the residents are encouraged to take part. During the past year, Westall made arrangements following the Government rules, to enable residents to see a family member outside in the summer months and then via a purpose-built visiting pod. Always thinking outside of the box.

We have been very pleased with the care Mum has received. Mum has been living at Westall for nearly 2 years and so has experienced the care before and during the virus. Both experiences have been very good and the staff have gone the extra mile to ensure their residents are safe and kept entertained and mentally stimulated. Well done Westall House.

Westhall House has been outstanding throughout the covid pandemic. With the exception of a few weeks, they have managed family visits to relatives and even built a divided summerhouse to enable the continuation of these vital visits. Audio enhancement has improved conversation between the parties. We have been pleased with all aspects of Westhall House since my mother became a resident in 2017. She has always been treated with the utmost courtesy and respect by all the staff. A regular provision of interesting and varied activities has enhanced her life.

Westall House stood out a mile when we were searching for somewhere for my mother to live permanently when Dad died. It has the atmosphere and style of a hotel more than a care home, from the choice of furniture in communal areas, a proper library where you can sit in peace, tasteful colour schemes, fresh-smelling, airiness and beautiful rural outlook. Mum has made friendships with several residents, enough to go to each other's rooms for a cup of coffee or chat (before COVID). Before distancing came into force, I enjoyed being a guest for Sunday lunch at a table of four where we could make normal conversation over a lovely roast dinner and a glass of wine. The entertainment programme is outstanding and never patronising. Topics are imaginative, such as dress to impress cocktail evening at Christmas, a cruise around the world month when all food and daily activities were themed from different countries, and outer space month. It has been very safe during COVID & we miss visiting.

Dad moved to Westall House about 8 months ago, and although he had been very anxious about the move, he settled in quickly and is very happy there. The home is nicely decorated and kept very clean, tidy and fresh smelling. The food is excellent, fresh and tasty with plenty of choice. The staff take the trouble to get to know each resident individually and to understand their likes and dislikes. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Staff treat the residents kindly and always speak to them with respect, and Dad has made some good friends amongst the other residents. The events co-ordinator is first-rate. She organises a wonderful range of activities including quizzes, bake-offs, musical events, film shows. There is no pressure to get involved, but the programme is so varied and well-planned that the events are always well-attended. We feel really lucky to have found such an outstanding home for Dad, where he is safe, well cared for and enjoying every day.

During my stay, I was extremely impressed by the friendliness, helpfulness and the professionalism of the staff. The accommodation was near and comfortable and the good-excellent. I can't praise the cook and kitchen staff enough.

The garden and other facilities, could not be better.

My dad went into Westall house for a few days following an operation. We found the whole atmosphere so welcoming and, most importantly, although a bit apprehensive at first, my dad found the whole experience enjoyable and felt at home straight away.

A huge amount of effort goes into events, for example, St Patrick's Day celebrations, Easter etc. I am so grateful to all the staff and would recommend the Abbeyfirleds organisation, and Westall House in particular, to anyone.
