Florence House

We were hesitant to admit mum to a care home as she had always wanted to be cared for at home. This is not realistic when you develop dementia and have very specific care needs. The admission process was smooth, empathetic and caring - in fact, this has been my experience of the management and care staff ever since. Mum has challenges and her condition is undoubtedly deteriorating but the home team keep me informed, they negotiate the family dynamics when we don't all see things the same way, and the end result is great care for mum, an impressive level of detailed knowledge of mum''s condition and fantastic communication allowing for timely decision making. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a home with a family feel - it's not 5 star hotel standards of decor but it's 5 star standards of appropriate loving care.

When my mum first went to Florence House approximately three years ago, she was unable to live by herself and was quite poorly. With the lovely care and support of all the staff at Florence, she has come on leaps and bounds and has stabalised to a degree we would never thought imaginable if she was to continue in her own home. The staff are very quick to pick up on any slight changes to all the resident's normal behaviours with health and tend to seek treatment of them before they become a problem. Can't fault the care she has received from them all.

Florence House is a small nursing home which means all the staff know all the residents really well. The atmosphere is homely and caring.The staff really seem to care and it is easy to talk to the management.

I am so thankful that my mother was allocated a place at Florence House, which is a small (20 bed) residential care home and so provides a family atmosphere. The staff are exceptional and provide outstanding care. Mum never wanted to enter the care system and with my support, lived independently until she was 97. Unfortunately 2 years ago, she fell and broke a hip, which was pinned but resulted in limited mobility and accelerated dementia resulting in her reverting to her first language, German, even though she had spoken English for over 70 years. The staff adjusted brilliantly picking up common words and using a translator app. On her 99th birthday, Cook made Frikadellen (German meatballs) for the buffet, a simple gesture reflecting thought and kindness. As a visitor, you are also treated as one of the family which makes every visit a joyful experience. The owner of Florence House leads by example and can only be complemented for an excellent business.

My Father and Mother in law both moved from Essex to be near us in Ramsey. We were fortunate that the owner agreed to them both moving in just after the end of lockdown due to Covid. They were able to spend several years together until my father in law passed away. He was able to remain at Florence House. They liaised with his GP and District Nursing Team so he could receive end of life care at Florence House surrounded by carers he knew and his family. His wife remains at Florence House and is cared for by kind & caring people who are experts in their field of care. We are kept up to date with any changes. There are frequent events arranged where families are invited to attend. There is no restriction on visiting. The food is varied, well presented, and nutritious and they cater for special dietary requirements. The home is clean and staff are all friendly, approachable, kind and care about their residents well being.

I must say what a wonderful care home. The staff are all very caring and attentive to the residents in their care. The home is managed well with all staff and the owners helping out with the day to day running of it. The most important thing for me is that my Dad really likes living there and is happy there. Well done Florence House keep up the great work.

Mum spent the good part of 11 years at Florence House and along with the help of other family members we managed to keep one or two visits per week on a regular basis, but without any set routine and sometimes quite late in the day. I have to say we were always made welcome and the care and respect that we witnessed towards the residents was second to none. My mum always spoke her mind and she loved the care workers who became good friends always attending to her needs without any fuss and certainly kept Mum's spirit up with a few jokes and laughs that she always enjoyed. The informal approach to care and monitoring at Florence House is in our opinion second to none, something we will always be extremely grateful for - a big thank you.

My family first used Florence house 35 years ago when my auntie needed care and again when my mother did. Unfortunately, my cousin 2 years ago needed extra care, and she decided to go to Florence House where the care and attention to her physical and health needs were outstanding. This all came about from the magical care team that attended and the Management. The communication, advice and support for the immediate family visiting was constant, informative and concise. My uncle has settled well into the care home. The staff have treated him with kindness and respect. Allowing him time alone whilst encouraging him to participate in group activities like church services and exercise classes. A big thank you to them from us.

My mother-in-law was a resident at Florence House Care Home for nine years and chose it herself when she became aware that she needed more support following a short spell in hospital. Initially, it was meant to be for two weeks recovery care. From the moment she arrived, Florence House became her home and she quickly decided she didn't want to go home. She was always extremely positive about the food and care she received and as a family, we had regular updates about how she was. During her nine year stay, her dementia took over and she went through many challenging stages but without exception, the Florence House staff managed her with dignity, care and kindness. They put safety measures in place and we could not have asked for a more dedicated team either during her life or when she was dying. Nine years is a long time to evaluate but I can honestly say that I cannot find a single area to comment on for improvement. The care was outstanding. I cannot recommend Florence House enough.

Mum’s first ever respite stay went well, apart from her losing one of her hearing aids (a regular occurrence). I half expected a phone call from the home, but none came and so I relaxed and enjoyed my “week off”.

Mum is booked in for another week’s respite in June. Thank you for looking after Mum so well.

Mum is in the best of care. Florence House looks after her and me with kindness, love and dedication. The staff and management keep our family in touch with any worries. They are always there for any queries I have. We are lucky as a community to have Florence House, it feels like family.

I am very pleased with the level of care that has been provided by Florence House for my mother. The staff are very pleasant and hard working. The owner has been very helpful during a stressful time.

My friend moved into the care home in March 2021 she is very settled and appears very happy, the staff are brilliant with her and she is always clean and well cared for. My friend is much more chatty and has mixed in really well with the help and guidance of the carers and manager. The room is nice and spacious allowing her to have several of her own things.

My Mother was placed in Florence House after being in Hospital, I had never been there before so didn't know what to expect when we visited. I am very pleased to say that Mum was very happy there, the Owner/Manager is very nice and mum soon got to know and like her, we can say that from mums reactions we saw when we visited, and she makes a point of seeing all residents most days if not every day. Our family were always promptly informed of anything we needed to know. All the staff are dedicated, friendly and polite, a very good family type team, nothing was too much trouble and mum never had a bad word to say.

My previous experience of care homes was nice. My admission here, therefore, exceeded all expectations. Facilities and staff are excellent. Much care is taken for my treatment, The food provided is first class. This is a very friendly place.
