Excellent care. Above and beyond expectancy. All employees from cleaner, cooks and carers did more than I would have thought possible.

I decided to move my Mum from a large care home to Florence House as the atmosphere and staff were so friendly and homely. I know it was the right decision because I've seen my mum come back to life, having dementia she was sleeping a lot. Florence House staff take time to engage on a one to one level
and has brought out Mum, so now she talks all the time. The rooms aren't clinical, very homely and catering is wonderful. I can't recommend Florence House highly enough for the high standard of caring and such lovely staff. I feel relieved Mum is getting what she needs.
Reply from Jenita David, Owner/Manager at Florence HouseThank you for the time taken to post a review. We love taking care of your mother's needs and are pleased to know that you are very satisfied with the care she receives.

Florence House is situated on the fringe of a residential area on the outskirts of town. Standing back from a quiet road and approached via a tarmac drive leading to a generous parking area. The premises comprise a single-storey building providing 20 units of accommodation and stands on a large plot
with many mature trees and well-tended gardens providing the opportunity for residents to enjoy the open air when weather permits, whilst inside one can enjoy the open air when weather permits. Whilst inside one can enjoy the privacy of your own room, join others in the lounge where entertainment is organised from time to time (quizzes etc.), or take advantage of the quiet area. Ones own room is sufficiently furnished i.e., wardrobe, chest of drawers etc, and personal items ie., TV, radio, pictures are permitted to add the 'homely' touch. All meals are prepared on the premises and served in the dining area. From the moment you step inside the home you are made welcome and you really do have that feeling of being 'at home'. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble and Management tries to keep you well informed about your loved one who may, from time to time, require a little TLC. Everything is catered for tight to the very end.
Reply from Jenita David, Owner/Manager at Florence HouseThank you very much for reviewing our home. It gives the team great satisfaction to know that your brother-in-law received excellent care by the whole team and that you are very happy with the support received from all of us.

My dear friend has sadly just passed away at Florence House. The care she received from the manager and staff was exemplary, she was treated with such kindness and respect and, although difficult at times, their care didn't falter. I cannot thank them enough. Many thanks to them all.

My Mum was moved from another care home into Florence House in January 2018, how I wish she could have spent all her time in care there.
From the manager down, all the staff show the residents the care, respect, consideration and love as if they were all part of their own family. Dementia sometimes
made Mum difficult and stubborn which I'm sure I could not have coped with, but they did and still treated her with kindness and patience. I live some distance away so didn't get to know all the staff well, but one senior carer stands out for me, the Manager knows who this person is and I have asked her to pass on my families eternal thanks and gratitude, if all care homes had carers like her it would be beyond excellent. Your relative could not be placed in a more caring home.
Reply from Jenita David, Owner/Manager at Florence HouseThank you so much for doing this review. I will pass this to all the staff. We are happy that we could look after your mum and to get to know her friends and family.

We moved my grandmother to Florence House from another nursing home just under a year ago, and Florence House was most certainly “Home from Home”. The care my grandmother received was nothing short of exceptional, even on her most difficult days. The staff were faultless with an amazing understanding
that not everyone’s needs were the same! The care and love my grandmother received during her time at Florence House was more than we could have ever wished for.
And in the last few months of her life, the palliative care the team gave her was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and they always treated her with respect and dignity and as a family, it gave us great peace of mind.
Reply from Jenita David, Owner/Manager at Florence HouseThank you for your kind words. It was our pleasure to take over the care of your grandmother who always wanted to be in Ramsey. I will pass your views to our staff team who would be pleased to hear such feedback.

With my 97 year old mother requiring extra care following discharge from hospital. It was only after two days at Florence House during a respite visit that my mother confirmed that she wanted to stay on a permanent basis. Friendly staff and residents, she felt completely at home. We have nothing but
praise for the care she is receiving.

My mother was in Florence House for three weeks respite care. I cannot fault the way she was looked after. I was so relieved when she was in Florence House as I knew I did not need to worry about her. The care was excellent, provided by caring staff. Food was nutritious and well prepared by the head
chef who was so accommodating. The activities coordinator was excellent, offering a range of lovely things that residents could get involved with. She really was so encouraging to the residents and it was clear they enjoyed the activities they got involved in.
All the team are overseen by the owner/Manager. She is so dedicated and should be proud of the care home and all the team who work for her. She was so caring and kind towards my mother. Thank you.

My mother was warmly welcomed by all the different staff members who soon got her settled into her own room which is warm and comfortable and her own photos placed etc to make it look very familiar to her previous flat. I feel sure that my mother is happy and contented with her new surroundings and
she now has the added benefit of being regularly checked on through the day and night as well as daily contact with other residents in the day room where she can either simply relax or take part in any activities if she wishes. The staff encourage my mother to use her walking frame as much as possible and this has generally helped get her going again.
Despite my mother having only been at Florence House for just over a month, myself and my family are very pleased with the overall care my mother is now receiving.

This is a small privately run home which maintains high standards ensuring the staff are well trained, they are all friendly and nothing is too much trouble. There is a lot of interaction between them and the residents, each of whom is treated as an individual with dignity while their likes and dislikes
are well known and catered for. Everything is done to ensure their comfort and they are free to choose their own lifestyle and take their meals where it suits them. Tasty food is prepared freshly on-site and alternatives are catered for, I can vouch for it as I sometimes join my wife for lunch. She has dementia so can at times be difficult but the staff are well able to cope resulting in a very happy resident who has no desire to leave. GPs visit as required while eye tests, hairdressing and pedicure are all available by arrangement. There is an activities co-ordinator who relates well to the residents and tries to engage as many as possible in all sorts of daily activities.

If you ever imagine your perfect care/retirement home I am sure it features warm and welcoming staff who are efficient and kind, home cooked, well-presented meals, comfortable beds and chairs and the realisation that your needs are being met and the staff are there to help you.
If these are your wishes
the look no further than Florence House, Ramsey.
This small (20 rooms) home is family run where their motto should be 'we will try our best to meet all your needs and requests'.
My husband and I went there on an emergency basis. I was his full-time carer and had fallen and fractured my knee cap.
Our son found Florence House and despite our sudden arrival, my husband's favourite drink, diet coke, was already on hand for him.
I followed a day later and was truly touched by how kind and gentle the staff were with handling my leg.
I must add that behind the warm atmosphere there is a very well run business. Doctors are called in when necessary, prescriptions are collected and medicines are strictly distributed.
On my several hospital appointments, ambulance transport was arranged and when I returned to Florence House I was met with an offer of coffee or a sandwich if I had missed lunch.
A five-star experience all round.

Without a doubt, Florence House gives its residents the best possible lifestyle under the careful attention of trained staff. It offers many choices with regards its meals which can be eaten alone in the room or with others in the dining room. It caters for any menu choices i.e vegetarian. The residents
each have control of their lifestyle.

Despite the fact that my elderly mother died in Florence House I believe she was as comfortable there in her final weeks as she has ever been. I cannot imagine a more homely setting. She was treated with care, compassion and dignity, but she was also treated as an individual, which was not easy as her
dementia occasionally made her difficult to cope with at times.

The home is not run on rigid lines. If she felt like a lie-in or was feeling tired and wanted to go back to bed after lunch, the staff would help her to do just that. It was as close to being in her own home and being in charge of her own life as possible, with the reassurance that people who wanted the best for her were around to make sure she didn't come to any harm.

The standard of care was already high and the introduction of an activities co-ordinator has raised the standard even higher.

Home-made food and lovely carers. I want to move in there myself and I'm only in my fifties!

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.500)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.500) out of 10 for Florence House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.800 for Florence House is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.8
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Florence House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
