Visiting

  • The team value the importance of visitors in the lives of residents and fully support their right to maintain contact with family, friends, and loved ones. The visitors policy ensures that visits are welcomed, safe, and respectful of each resident’s personal wishes.

    Key points of the policy:

Open Visiting: Visitors are welcome at any time, unless a resident personally requests limited visits or there is an outbreak of infection, in which case the home will follow health and safety guidance.

Resident Choice: Each resident can decide who they want to see, and this choice will be recorded in their care plan. If a resident lacks the capacity to make this decision, the Mental Capacity Act will guide the process to ensure visits still support their best interests.

Visitor Registration: All visitors must sign in and out at reception and follow any health and safety procedures in place.

Privacy and Respect: Residents have the right to refuse visitors, and this will always be respected. Visitors will not be allowed into other residents’ rooms without express permission.

Food and Personal Items: Any food or personal items brought in for a resident must be declared to staff to ensure safety and dietary needs are considered.

Infection Control: Visitors who feel unwell, especially with symptoms of transmissible infections (such as flu, COVID-19, or norovirus), are asked to postpone their visit until they are well.

Conflict and Safeguarding: If a visitor’s behaviour poses a risk to residents, staff, or the home environment, management will intervene. In serious cases, visits may be restricted or conditions imposed, with advice from the Safeguarding Team if necessary.

Outbreak Management: In the event of a public health incident, the home will follow local and national guidance, offering alternatives like video calls or window visits if needed.

Feedback and Complaints: Visitors are encouraged to provide feedback and raise any concerns, which will be handled through the Complaints, Suggestions and Compliments Policy.

Our goal is to make every visit a positive, safe, and supportive experience for all.

I am very happy with the care my grandmother receives at your facility. She is well looked after and happy.
The home has many activities in place to keep her occupied.
I was most impressed when I received a call back from a member of your staff when I tried to call to speak to her. I understand how
busy you all are and the phone went to answer phone but was so surprised and happy to get a call back from one of your team which meant I could then speak to my grandmother.
When I've visited all the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and I trust my grandmother in their care.
Reply from Heidi Coleman-Seldon, Registered Manager at The Star Nursing and Residential HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share this lovely feedback. We are truly delighted to hear that your grandmother is happy and well cared for here. Ensuring our residents feel safe, engaged, and supported is at the heart of everything we do, so its wonderful to know this has been your experience.
Im especially glad our team were able to return your call promptly and help you connect with your grandmothermaintaining strong communication with families is really important to us, and its great to hear that this made a positive difference.
Your kind words about our staff mean a great deal. The team work very hard to create a warm, friendly atmosphere, and your trust in us is something we value deeply.
Thank you again for your thoughtful message. Please dont hesitate to reach out if there is ever anything more we can do.

Everyone at the care home is kind and considerate and patient. They are incredibly caring and always welcoming and considerate whenever I visit. My mother has been at The Star in Peterborough for nearly 2 years and she is very happy. Everyone working at the home smiles and appears cheerful. The food
is high quality. The special days they put on throughout the year are great fun for staff, residents and visitors. I feel it is a happy and safe place.

My mum is currently a resident at the Star Nursing Home (Jan 2026). Since her arrival there in August 2023 the staff at the home have always gone above and beyond in their care for our mum. We regularly visit often unannounced and both my brother and I have always experienced the residents being treated
with care compassion and respect despite the very difficult and challenging job. I would echo others comments that despite the look of the building from the outside the actual environment inside is always clean and well looked after and the home always seems to be run in a professional way. We have appreciated all the staff members there who seem to go above and beyond - often offering visitors refreshments and making us feel comfortable also. Mum always looks and smells clean and we are contacted in case they notice she has any marks or bruises on her to advise and talk about any possible further medical action needed. In short - it is a fantastic home with dedicated caring staff

Our mum has recently passed away, and the end of life care provided by the management and staff at The Star was fantastic. During Mum's short stay there, she was treated with love, respect and dignity and very well cared for by every member of staff. They also made sure we were always informed of any
changes to Mum's care and nothing was too much trouble. Every member of The Star are a credit to the care home industry, they are very hard working but always find the time for a smile, chat and a welcoming cup of tea.

Mum arrived at the beginning of January 25. Very apprehensive about coming into a care home, but not even 24 hours later, mam was raving about the staff. Very friendly, professional and caring. I have the same sentiments. Always open and honest. Will help in whichever way is needed. The Star is a lovely
home.

My mum arrived here after having a fall and sustained brain injury, she had already spent some time in rehabilitation and needed extra care and help to regain her health and strength. I was a little dubious of The Star as the location and building from the outside is not the prettiest! However, we were
absolutely blown away by the amazing care from the staff who were able to help mum regain the skills to enable her to move on to living in extra care accommodation and living independently back with her husband. Thank you for all the help and support - I would absolutely recommend you for anybody looking for a caring and nurturing environment for their loved ones. Incredible team.

Dad has settled well and all the staff are very helpful and lovely. Lots of activities are available if residents want to join in.
They allow Dad's dog to visit with me as well which is such a good thing for Dad and all the other residents love to see her too.
Always a cup of tea and biscuits is offered
when visiting, which again makes you feel welcome.

My aunt was in the nursing home after a hospital stay for a bad fall, fractured hip, pelvic. The staff were so lovely here, they go above and beyond their duties, caring for residents and their families, always a happy place to go into. Always lots to do if residents wanted to join in. The nurses were
very good, always keeping us informed as to what was happening, always clean. Unfortunately, our aunt was too ill to enjoy the things on offer in the community room, always well looked after in her room though.

My husband was at the home for a few months. He passed away peacefully. The care he received was impeccable. All the staff could not do enough for him, care which I could not give him. Three members of staff in particular and all the others are really dedicated to their work. Another particular member
of staff is always smiling and happy to help, the manager was great and very helpful.
Excellent care, passionate staff looking after everyone's needs. Highly recommend for the care they give.

My cousin entered The Star Nursing and Residential Home about a year ago when he needed nursing care. As I live some considerable distance away, I was unable to visit him as much as I would have liked and he had no other relatives or friends to visit him. I was, therefore, very grateful that the staff
took the time to get to know him and keep him company. He was always treated with dignity and respect and I was kept informed of his condition on a regular basis. My sincere thanks to all those who cared for him.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.647)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.647) out of 10 for The Star Nursing and Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.747 for The Star Nursing and Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (149 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 190 Ratings = 4.747
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Star Nursing and Residential Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
