Our mum has recently passed away, and the end of life care provided by the management and staff at The Star was fantastic. During Mum's short stay there, she was treated with love, respect and dignity and very well cared for by every member of staff. They also made sure we were always informed of any
changes to Mum's care and nothing was too much trouble. Every member of The Star are a credit to the care home industry, they are very hard working but always find the time for a smile, chat and a welcoming cup of tea.

Lanrick House

from Susan W (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum had been in Lanrick House for some 16 months before she recently passed away. The end of life care she received from the staff could not have been better. The family have been more than happy with the care provided and we are so pleased we were able to move her to Lanrick House last year from Dorset.
The staff not only engage with the residents but families too and there is always some activity going on. Mum always complimented the food and she looked forward to mealtimes. Lanrick House was the safe environment we wanted for her and made the best choice for her needs. Thank you to everyone.

Reply from The Manager, Registered manager at Lanrick House

Thank you so much for your lovely review. Can I start by saying that it was an honor to care and support your mum throughout her time with us at Lanrick and to be able to give her the best quality of life we could. We felt privileged to be able to provide the person centered care that she deserved at the end of her life and we all miss her very much.

Chelmsford Care Centre

from Claire G (Daughter of Resident) published on 10 June 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My Dad moved to this care home in December 2024 and thankfully left at the beginning of May.
Our experience was very poor! It also left us distressed by our experience. Myself and my Step Mum witnessed staff repeatedly ignoring residents who were trying to communicate with them, asking to go to the
loo or who were in distress, we saw staff scrolling on social media and laughing and joking amongst themselves whilst the residents were ignored. Mealtimes were chaotic and the quality of food poor. There were also staff with limited English, this impacted the residents directly and also had a negative effect on paperwork that staff needed to complete. My Dad's teeth were not brushed regularly and he was left in dirty clothes. There were often occasions when there was no soap or loo roll in the toilets. His belongings were just screwed up in draws in his room. It was very difficult to contact the home by phone, calls were not returned. Concerns were addressed in the first instant but poor practice quickly resumed. There are a few good carers in this home but a lot of lazy staff who like to blame each other rather than work as a team. My Dad has come back to life since leaving and moving to an excellent care home.
There is new management at this home and hopefully the service will improve. Visit your loved ones regularly and challenge!

Reply from Shiny Joe, National Operational Manager at Chelmsford Care Centre

Thank you for your feedback. We acknowledge receipt of your concerns on the day your father left our care, and we want to assure you that we have taken them seriously. Following your report, a thorough internal review was conducted, and the findings have been submitted to our safeguarding team for further evaluation. We understand that the decision to move your father from our service was primarily to be closer to his wife, your step-mum. We respect and support your family's choice, as we know how important proximity and emotional support are during times of care and recovery. Your father was admitted to our facility under the Discharge to Assess (D2A) pilot scheme, and during his stay, we aimed to provide the highest standard of care. We were pleased to receive positive feedback from your family throughout his time with us. Your regular engagement with the unit manager helped us ensure that your fathers needs were being met and that any concerns were addressed promptly.

Mom was moved here from hospital, this was a new experience for her and us, we met with the manager before mom's arrival and saw the home, we were relatively pleased with what we saw and hopeful for mom's care, while the home was clean and comfortable the level of care from staff wasn't what we expected.
Most
of the time the home had bank staff who did the bare minimum for their work obligations and couldn't answer any queries we had, mom wasn't encouraged to eat/drink it was just put in front of her but due to confusion and limitations on her sight and mobility this was difficult for mom to do.
Some members of staff did engage with mom and us but most of the time, especially on a weekend or evening the staff would be on there mobile phones or sat in the nurses station talking to each other.
Mom had several falls over the short time she was here an didn't thrive at all, there needs to be significant changes in my opinion at primrose hill for existing and future residents care here

My husband has been a resident in the care home from late 2023 and I attend on a daily basis. The unit manager, care staff and nurses are excellent carrying out the care of residents with respect, dignity and kindness despite the challenging circumstances. Activity staff have worked hard to give residents
stimulating & positive experiences with daily activities and outside acts. The home also celebrates important dates in the calendar as well as residents birthdays. I can only praise the staff for their support and kindness not only to my husband but to the whole of my family.

The manager of Lanrick House is amazing. When I was in a state of shock and disbelieve at the situation I found myself in she understood listened and then welcomes my mom into the home.
My mom was discharged from hospital with a fractured pelvis and all the staff have cared for this 92 year old woman
with care and dignity and encouraging her to regain mobility. The staff are all wonderful, especially the events organiser.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, it is so important for all those who join our family at Lanrick house to feel valued and safe. We understand how hard it can be to make such a difficult decision to place your loved one in the hands of someone else and hope that they will be shown the care and support that they need. Chelmsford Care Centre

from Clive S (Husband of Resident) published on 24 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My wife was moved from her previous care home because they could not provide the one-to-one care she needed due to her aggression. She settled at CCC very quickly and, after a few weeks, the staff had clearly got used to her and seem genuinely fond of her. She has been in CCC for 6 months now and there
is always a warm welcome when I visit, help is on hand if I ask for it but they are also happy for me to care for her while I'm there. As hard as leaving her is, I know she is looked after and cared for when I'm not there which is all I
ask. The place is lovely, more like a hotel than a Care home, and well looked after. The rooms are spacious and welcoming and the food is good and plentiful. As much as I hate not being able to live and grow old together, I at least have the peace of mind of knowing that she is looked after far better than I could look after her. Thank you Chelmsford Care Centre.

Reply from Zoe Walker, Deputy Manager at Chelmsford Care Centre

Thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt experience. It's truly touching to hear how well your wife has settled at Chelmsford Care Centre and how much care and warmth the team has shown her. It's wonderful to hear that you feel welcome whenever you visit and that the support is there when you need it. Your words reflect the dedication of the staff and the quality of the environment they've created. While it's never easy to be apart from a loved one, the peace of mind that comes from knowing she is receiving the care she truly needs is invaluable. Thank you for sharing your journey, and for expressing such kind words about the care team at Chelmsford Care Centre.
