Review of Rookhurst from R F (Brother-in-law of Resident) published on 18 May 2026 Submitted via Website

My sister in law is a resident at Rookhurst and is very happy there. The staff are professional and always able to answer any questions or concerns we may have. I drove my wife to visit last month and could see my sister in law was in good spirits and well cared for. She was chatty when she went to lunch and her walking had improved from our last visit.

My auntie has been at Rookhurst Care Home for a while now and we've been really happy with the care she receives. The staff are always kind, patient and welcoming whenever we visit, and it's clear they genuinely care about the residents. My auntie often talks about how supported and comfortable she feels there, which gives our family a lot of reassurance. The home is always clean, friendly and has a lovely atmosphere. Thank you to all the team for everything you do.

We visited my sister today and as always we had a very nice day. My sister was in good spirits and had lots to tell us all good. The staff are extremely committed and always a pleasure to see and speak too. We met a new resident today who has been there a month or so he was very chatty and smiling saying how much he likes his new home. The residents were having an exercise session while we were there with a trainer and we could see they all participated and enjoyed it. We look forward to visiting again soon.

A beautiful warm loving home.
It's been the biggest and hardest decision for my family and I to find the perfect place for my brother, and I can say with confidence that we definitely have! We are always made to feel very welcome and like it's our home too. The staff are all brilliant, extremely caring and professional. You can tell they really care. My brother is always clean, well fed, and most importantly happy. The staff are constantly keeping in contact and updating us. They go above and beyond to make sure we, as a family, feel comfortable and happy.

It's a huge relief to know we have found somewhere that we didn't think existed.

Thank you!

Taz was in a very poor state when he came to Badgers Lodge, and in just 4 weeks he has gone back to being a cheeky chappie. The staff are wonderful and they fuss him and take really good care of him. My mind can now rest as he diabetes is now under control. I know he eats well and the medical staff have saved his left leg from amputation as h's leg was badly infected. His right leg was amputated and because of the care he receives he always smiling. Thank you.

Review of Rookhurst from Melanie D (Sister of Resident) published on 24 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

When my brother first went to live at rookhurst it appeared to be such a caring, welcoming place for him to live. Unfortunately in our experience, it went drastically downhill. We were made to feel very unwelcome, and in their own words ' they would observe our private visits with our brother from the garden' or sitting in a chair outside his bedroom door. We have this in an email sent to social services. My brother lost several stone in weight. He looked more and more ill every time we visited him. My brothers health was not taken serious. My brother died from aspirating pneumonia on Christmas eve. If my beautiful brother was still living at home with our mum we are 100% certain he would still be here with us, as my mum always got him medical treatment as soon as there was an issue. IF YOU SEND A LOVED ONE HERE, PLEASE DO SPOT CHECKS, ITS THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL SEE WHAT ITS REALLY LIKE.

Review of Rookhurst from N D (Sister of Resident) published on 17 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I would never in good conscience recommend Rookhurst Residential Lodge to anyone.
My experience of my brother living at Rookhurst was a very bad experience. We were not kept informed when he was ill or receiving medical treatment. His health deteriorated dramatically over the 3 years he resided there. My brother was rarely ever taken out in the community. On the majority of visits the female staff (excluding the assistant manageress) would be sat at the dining table staring at their mobile phones instead of engaging with the residents.
As a family we were made to feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable every time we visited. Our right as a family to have a private visit with my brother was not adhered to.
My brother died on 24/12/2025 and
we received not one word of condolence from the manageress. She made us uncomfortable right up to our last visit when we collected my brothers belongings and she stood silently watching us.

This is a genuine family review.

Rookhurst have always been great over the years, and more recently have proved to be very good with managing challenging medical issues, and always ensure the services and activities go a long way to ensuring continual improvements. Communication is excellent and visiting is made very comfortable by way of having plenty of space in a clean and tidy environment, also helped by the other residents being calm, kind, courteous and helpful.

I am so very grateful to Chelmsford Care centre for the care of my husband Andrew .
He was a difficult resident when he arrived but was treated with care , and compassion.
Myself and the family cannot thank you all enough. A helpful and friendly reception and administrative team.
Hands on involvement from management and outstanding care from the nurses .
As for his one to one carers I was overwhelmed by their patience, ,kindness and attention they gave him .
In the early hrs of the morning when he died I felt supported and comforted .

I am very happy with the care my grandmother receives at your facility. She is well looked after and happy.

I was most impressed when I received a call back from a member of your staff when I tried to call to speak to her. I understand how busy you all are and the phone went to answer phone but was so surprised and happy to get a call back from one of your team which meant I could then speak to my grandmother.
