Overall Experience
My wife has been at Ailwyn Hall for 10 months now. Initially she was very anxious and her personal care was very difficult, taking 3 carers to manage her.Very promptly the care home overcame these problems with compassion and professionalism.
She is now very calm and always well presented when I visit. The staff are always helpful and I can see they really care about the residents in the way they treat them.
At the beginning of the year new management were in place and many improvements have been made. The building has been redecorated and the gardens are being revamped. Requests for CCTV cameras in public areas were dealt with in a speedy manner.
Family meetings to meet staff and senior managers have been scheduled and I find these very informative and enjoyable.
I find everybody at Ailwyn Hall from managers, carers and domestic staff to be very friendly, helpful and easy to deal with.

I am very happy with the care that my wife receives.

Although Ailwyn Hall had a challenging 2025, I am very impressed with the way that the new management team have set about putting things right. They are working hard to tick numerous boxes going forward. There are more family meetings, which myself and other relatives of residents are finding very helpful. The feedback, criticisms and relevant ideas for both the immediate and long term future of the home and the residents, feels like it's being actively responded to.

There are already signs that maintenance and decorative issues are being worked on, both internally and externally.
My family member who is a resident at the home, has some complex needs. It must be a difficult juggling act at times to get it right, but I feel that the staff and carers are doing their utmost to give the right care, personal needs, nutrition and medication, with dignity, respect and genuine empathy.

This is reassuring and commendable.

My husband's care was poor he ended up with bed sores. He was not turned every two hours. His clothes missing and replaced with other people items when I complained to managers they were rude. Communication was poor only spoke to manager twice as never saw her. Even though I was in there nearly everyday I was never told his medication had been stopped and he was end of life I am next of kin should have been informed My daughter complained to owner of the home nothing improved.

My father has settled very well at Ailwyn Hall. The care staff are unfailingly kind and responsive to his needs. He clearly feels supported and has noticeably relaxed since arriving at the home. When the family visits we are always helped to settle him - often outside in the peaceful garden. We feel confident that our father is in the best place for him and his needs.

I'm a regular visitor to a long term friend and find happy atmosphere with lots of activities going on. Residents are encouraged to join in with practical tasks like colouring and flower arrangements. Lots of visiting entertainment from musicians to small mammals and birds with much encouragement to include everyone who needs extra support to partake in these activities.

Dad has been a resident of Ailwyn Hall since April 2024. Having been in hospital for 10 weeks prior following a fall that broke the femur. From day one they made him feel at home and put my mind at ease that he would be well looked after. Dad has now been at Ailwyn Hall for nine months during which time they have managed to get him walking again, something I thought would never happen. With their care and attention, he can walk with a Zimmer frame. He is very content and calls it his home now. All the staff are wonderful with him, nothing is too much trouble. When I leave after a visit I know that I do not have to worry about him. They also have regular good entertainment and activities which residents can take part in if they choose.

Mum has been in Ailwyn Hall just over 2 years now since she was 100 years old. She is well looked after and since Covid, we are able to talk to her via Zoom or messenger. In the summer when they can get outside fun and games are organised for all to enjoy. We get regular photos via Facebook. We as a family are grateful to all the staff at Ailwyn for the love and care they give to our loved ones.

It was a hard decision to let Mum go into a home but with the onset of her dementia and caring for her 24/7 during the pandemic, my health was not the best. The fact that Ailwyn Hall is rated Good by the CQC and the reviews I read helped greatly in a time when you couldn’t visit the places. Since October last year, Mum has been with them and I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. I speak to Mum most days and she is content when her mind is clear, the staff are always friendly and we have had window meetings with her when the guidelines allowed. There have been Zoom meetings as well, which are highly emotive for the family but not always understood by Mum. I must thank you all for your wonderful care of my Mum during an extremely difficult time, just so glad that she has had her first vaccination, and she continues to be well.

Overall Experience

Every interaction that I have with Ailwyn Hall is a positive one. The staff are always helpful and explain how Mum's doing and whether she's able to take my call. Sometimes if it's busy the staff will offer to call me back just so that Mum can keep in touch. Mum's walking a lot better than before she came into the home and even though some of our conversations don't make a lot of sense she's never asking to leave or for someone to come and get her. Moving into care was emotionally difficult for Mum and her family but the staff have done everything they can to make her welcome and happy. This in turn makes us, her family, feel happy. Even though we can't touch Mum or give her a hug, the Facebook pages and the photos they show always offer an insight into Mum's new situation. She always appears clean, comfortable and really engaged with whatever task she is doing.

A small care home with a very family feel. The staff are friendly and approachable. They try to help with any problems and pre Covid lockdown, we had a family support group. There have been many improvements to the building and décor over the last year and the overall feel is fresh and bright. There is a beautiful garden and residents are able to get outside and enjoy it when the weather is good, and the view from the windows is lovely.

I am very grateful for the care given to my Mother during these unprecedented times. At the moment of writing, I believe that there have not been any cases of covid-19 among the residents. Obviously, I miss seeing my Mother as often as I would like to but hoping this will change in the future when the R number comes down.

Another lovely visit with dad. Entertainment today was very good for all residents. Lots of smiling faces, singing songs that they all remember and carers helping less able to enjoy this also. This was followed by lunch which was delicious tasty hot food, both main and dessert. Carers assisting anyone who needed help and everyone enjoyed their meal.

Really enjoyable visit, dad very happy as always and everyone looked after with great care and respect.

My elderly mother has her home here and I am very grateful as I only have praise for the way she is cared for. The staff are very kind and considerate. The manager is professional and always has time for me to discuss anything. She is approachable and welcoming with a kind, understanding attitude and a smile. I have on many occasions found it very difficult to visit my mother as it can be distressing with her condition deteriorating fast. The staff make me feel better, always a little time to chat between their demanding duties and always a nice cuppa. I don't feel so depressed and alone when I know there is someone going to be there who really cares about the residents and the relatives. Thankyou Ailwyn Hall.
