Hill Barn Care Home

from P C (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 10 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My father-in-law has been a resident since May and has been well looked after by the manager and staff at Hillbarn. He keeps himself to himself and mainly in his room, but has enjoyed watching the work that has been happening to renovate the old pond in the courtyard. As he previously built and looked
after his own pond he is knowledgeable about keeping fish in a good environment. The pond redevelopment at Hillbarn has drawn him out of his room, gives him a little focus and something new to show and share with us when we visit. The team should be praised for ensuring this small benefit to the residents has remained, rather than simply be filled in (as it could have been). We look forward to seeing further improvements at Hillbarn over time.

Reply from Isaac George, Referrals at Hill Barn Care Home

'Thankyou for your kind review of Hill Barn. We are pleased that your father in law has settled in well and that you are happy with the level of care provided by Rachel and her staff. We are always upgrading the home, including the recently renovated pond, which we are happy has kept your father in law busy. I will pass on your praise to the Hill Barn team!

My father moved to Church Farm Care Home in April & I have to say I am beyond amazed with this place in every way.

The leadership & single member of staff I have seen or spoken to have been professional, friendly, polite & absolutely fantastic with all of the residents and I cannot fault a single

one of them in the slightest.

The manager & deputy manager are very professional, approachable & so engaged and on hand and involved with the residents, staff and what is going on within the home also, nothing seems to be too much trouble for them & they will always make time to speak to you if you need to speak to them.

As someone with a very strong senior leadership background myself you can see quality leadership in others and in my opinion Church Farm are very lucky indeed to have their manager & leading the home which in turn gives me great reassurance that my father is in a very good place/environment and is receiving the very best care & support he can.

Reply from Ania George, Director at Church Farm Residential Care Home

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback. We are truly grateful for your words of appreciation. It means a great deal to the entire team to know that their dedication and hard work are recognised. We take great pride in creating a warm, supportive environment for both our residents and their families, and its incredibly rewarding to hear that this has been your experience. Your comments about our leadership team are especially appreciated, particularly coming from someone with a strong senior leadership background. We are indeed very fortunate to have such committed and compassionate individuals leading the home, and your reassurance about your father's care is exactly what we strive for every day. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback it really does make a difference. Warmest regards,

My mother came to this home at the beginning of this year. I have found all the staff friendly, happy and caring. A couple definitely stand out. I have only seen improvements since my mum has resided there. The range of activities now provided is much better, and that person works very hard and is so
good with all of the residents. My mum has had a couple of falls whilst there, and I am happy with the care she received. It would be nice if they had a little less workload so they could chat with residents occasionally.

Reply from Ania George, Director at Fairland House

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback. We're very pleased to hear that your mother has settled in well and that you've noticed positive changes since her arrival. Its always encouraging to hear that our staffs efforts are making a difference well be sure to pass on your praise to the team, especially those who have stood out to you. Were also glad you've seen improvements in our activity offerings. Engaging residents meaningfully is a key priority for us, and its wonderful to know the hard work in that area is being noticed and appreciated.Regarding your mums falls, we understand how concerning that can be, and were pleased to hear that you were satisfied with the care she received. Your suggestion about giving staff more time to engage socially with residents is a valuable one. Were continuously looking at how we can balance workloads to ensure both care and companionship are part of daily life here.

It's was never going to be easy to find a place to look after your mum. Mum had full capacity of her brain yet the cancer was taking over.
My sister and me went to the home and were sat down and had the full history. The warmth and cooking was already inviting. Following a look around we decided on
bringing mum here asap. At this time we were unaware of mums time left but all we wanted was care and comfort for her.
The staff in the home like most are busy, the warmth and care given was lovely. Food was made to suit and nothing was ever an issue. We felt mums time here would suit all of us.
Unfortunately her health deteriorated rapidly and the team kept her in good faith until she had decided to go to sleep for the last time. A bright happy, warm, inviting place is what welcomes you. It's not easy to make these decisions, but we certainly feel this was a good place to care for our mum.

Thank you so much for your heartfelt review. Were truly sorry for your loss and deeply honoured that you chose our home to care for your mum during such a precious and difficult time. It means a great deal to know that you found warmth, compassion, and comfort herenot only for your mum, but for your family as well. Your kind words about our team and the environment are very much appreciated and will be shared with everyone involved in her care. Thank you again for your trust and for sharing your experience.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. The management is very visible and accessible, so they are available for questions and to sort any problems. They know every resident and show empathy and compassion towards them. If I had a criticism, it would be the laundry. Clothes have been spoiled by washing
dark with light colours, and items have been muddled and given to the wrong residents. Having said that, I can understand how easily this can happen.

Ensuring that our residents feel cared for with empathy and compassion is at the heart of what we do, so it's wonderful to hear your positive experience. We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the laundry service. We understand how frustrating this can be, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will review our processes to see how we can improve and minimise mix-ups in the future. If you have any specific concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact the care home manager. My mother was taken into Hill Barn on 4th November 2024. The staff and management here were extremely helpful in getting her settled in and encouraged her to participate in the many activities that were arranged for residents. All staff were respectful, caring and supportive. Sadly my mother passed

My mother spent the last few months of her life at Hill Barn Care Home during which time she received impeccable care and attention from all of the staff. Having lived on her own for the last nine years I was concerned that the transition, albeit necessary, was always going to be difficult. Yet it proved
to be a seamless move accomplished through the kindness and understanding displayed by all concerned. The staff swiftly established her needs and treated her with tremendous dignity and compassion in what was to become for her a safe and comfortable home. The staff were clearly well organised and demonstrated they were proficient in performing their duties. I felt confident that the treatment that my mother received was of great comfort to her.

Since the current manager has arrived things have improved at the home, hence the good rating. I feel there are still issues at times with staffing. I would prefer Mum to walk more as asked for on several occations but this still has not happened. The activities programme has improved. I know the staff

My mother was very reluctant to go into care, but following a serious Covid infection and a long stay in hospital, this became her only real option.
I'm delighted to say that she is flourishing. She loves The Old Vicarage, as she frequently says, "there's always something happening."
I visit her regularly
and observe the staff in action. Without exception they're all hardworking and genuinely caring. They listen to the residents and do their best to accommodate their needs.
There is "always something happening," with a wide range of activities and entertainments available week by week. Everyone is invited to join in the fun contributing to whatever is going on.
The management team do a great job ensuring the residents safety and well being, and keeping in close contact with family informing us of any problems, and involving us in any decisions that need to be made.
All in all, if my mother is happy, then so am I, and she most definitely is.
