Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our mum had a stroke in January this year and was left with vascular dementia with very little insight into her condition and needing residential care.

We visited a number of homes but from the minute we entered Ailwyn Hall, we knew it was the place for mum and we were proved right. The home and

all the staff, without exception, were good humoured, homely, friendly, caring and genuinely interested in mum as a person not just another resident. We were encouraged to make her room her own before she was discharged from hospital with her personal photos and things from home and also to let them know mum's life story so that they could talk to her about what was important to her.

Mum's rapid onset of dementia was a shock to us as a family but the manager and staff all helped us to come to terms with the changes and supported us as well as giving excellent care and support to mum. Mum had a large family and many friends and all visitors were welcomed at any time. We were kept updated with how she was and everyone was happy to answer any queries we had.

Mum was understandably worried about the move but settled very quickly and told us often how much she loved her room, the home and the staff, who she said were all angels. She called the lounge 'the room with the nice people'. She was very happy there which gave us all peace of mind.

Mum sadly passed away in June but was very clear she wanted to die in the home where she felt secure and loved rather than in hospital. The manager and staff were excellent in the last few days supporting us and treating mum with so much dignity and respect that we can never thank them enough

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.357)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.357) out of 10 for Ailwyn Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.075 for Ailwyn Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (14 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.075
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.282 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ailwyn Hall Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 = 3.55
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.732
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
