Carleton House care home went above and beyond in making our Dads very brief stay at the home as painless as possible.
When my brother and I first went to look we knew immediately it was the right place for our Dad.
The staff are so friendly, caring and kind nothing was to much trouble.
Dad was only
at the home for a fortnight and passed away there. How the staff treated us was amazing and extremely professional.
Thankyou to all the staff that cared for our Dad!
We highly recommend Carleton House.
Reply from Ben Jourdan, Director at Carleton House Care HomeAmie,
Thank you for such kind words at what must still be a very difficult time. We're so sorry for the loss of your Dad, and it was a privilege to care for him, however brief his stay. It means a great deal to us that you and your brother felt so welcomed and supported, and that you felt he was in the right place. Your Dad was a pleasure to look after, and our thoughts remain with you both. Thank you for the lovely recommendation, and please don't hesitate to stay in touch.

The staff at Carleton House are lovely and so friendly. They make a great team and really take care of my mum. Individually they all relate and understand her because they've taken the time and got to really know her well. I always know she's in good hands and they will contact me immediately if something
is needed. I also enjoy my relationship with all the staff at Carleton House and I think they've got to know me too. That is important for communication about my mums needs.
Reply from Ben Jourdan, Director at Carleton House Care HomeGood afternoon,
Thank you for such a lovely review. Your mum is a pleasure to look after, and it means a lot to know she feels so well cared for, and that you feel that trust with us too. Knowing both our residents and their families properly is what makes the difference. Thank you again for the kind words.
With best wishes,

I am my wife's sole carer as she suffers with dementia. In mid January I was admitted to hospital as an emergency patient and my wife needed immediate full time care. The home was able to offer immediate accommodation and she remained there until I was fully recovered and able to take over her care.
Throughout her time at the home she was well looked after by everyone and I had no worries about her welfare or safety.
Reply from Ben Jourdan, Director at Carleton House Care HomeGood afternoon Keith,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review of the home and your experience. We're truly glad we could be there for you both at such a worrying and unexpected time. We wish you both all the very best.

My mother has spent the last 3 years at this lovely care home until her death on the 31st December 2025.
The manager and team of carers, caterers, cleaners etc have helped my mother have an enjoyable time. They have all made extra time to converse with Mum, taken extra time too with us. We have always
felt welcome at all of our visits. We have also been impressed with the activities set up for Mum and the other residents. The carers have always been professional and caring. We have no hesitation in recommending the care home.

My 99 year old Mum has been at Carleton House for the last two years and has received a high level of compassionate and attentive care. The carers are wonderful, as are the hard working support team who take care of the kitchen, cleaning and maintenance. Adele and her staff have been incredibly supportive
of both Mum and myself and have responded thoughtfully to Mum's various health problems. The care home is relatively small which means there is a real family and homely atmosphere. I have got to know a lot of the staff and feel confident that they have Mum's best interests at heart when I can't be with her. Adele always listens with patience and understanding if any minor issues crop up and always responds quickly and efficiently to put things right and offer reassurance. I am so glad I chose Carleton House for Mum, the house itself may not be the most modern but the quality and dedication of the staff are exemplary which, for us, is of far more importance. Thank you!

Both my parents have been resident at Carlton House, although mum has now been able to move into housing with care, so I have plenty of experience over the past few years. Dad is currently there and has been looked after by Adele and her wonderful team since late 2019. I can honestly say that the staff
are wonderful- not only the care staff but the cleaners and kitchen staff too. Dad can be a little difficult at times due to his illness and I know he's always treated with kindness and respect and is safe. The house and the gardens are lovely too. I really couldn't be happier to know he's being cared for there.

My brother and I can't thank Adele and her amazing team enough, It has been a difficult transition for my mother but the caring staff have been on hand to make this journey as easy as possible. We are so happy with how things are going, mums room is lovely and always kept clean and tidy. Mum is always
presented well with fresh clothes and the staff get her to be as mobile as possible during the day. She has mentioned that she feels safe and the staff look after and treat her well. We are happy to recommend Carleton House for your loved ones, for us it has been a lifeline knowing that mum is looked after and care for 24 hrs a day.
A huge thank you to all staff you are brilliant,

I was a senior GP covering a particular area so have worked with most of the care homes in the area. All our staff loved Carleton House more than any other. Our nursing team used to say they had booked their places there!
When my mum needed care Carleton House was the obvious choice. The manager has
been fantastic and visited Mum in the hospital to assess her and together with her team have made Mum feel loved and cared for. Nothing is too much trouble. I feel they have got to know her as an individual and personalised her care. The whole team from managers, carers, cleaners, kitchen staff and laundry staff just go above and beyond.
I know from visiting dozens of care homes in my job that grander-looking homes do not mean better care. It's the kindness of the staff that makes this place perfect.

Carleton House is a very welcoming home set in beautiful surroundings. My mother has been a resident in Carleton House since July 2021. The staff provide excellent personal and social care. They are dedicated, caring and supportive of both my mother and our family. The care team keeps us updated about
all aspects of her care. My mother always speaks highly about the quality of the food and the care she receives. As a family we are extremely happy with all aspects of her care and the activities provided by the staff at Carleton House.

A lovely family run home, it was very hard for me to put my mum into a care home, but within a few days I was able to sleep again at night. Everyone at Carleton House is friendly, supporting not only your loved one, but the family as well. The home is like one large family, the food is amazing, always
smells so good when I visit mum, and always very good quality. Always plenty of activities within the home, and lovely gardens to sit in, in the summer. Decoration and cleanliness within the home is of a very high standard, I would recommend Carleton House to anyone looking to get help with their loved one.

My parents moved to Carleton House in July 2023 when my dad was no longer able to look after my mum after living in their house for 65 years. They share a joint room in the home. The transition was difficult for them but the personal care and attention shown by the management and caring staff have been
fantastic in helping them to settle.
As the home is small the carers are able to bond with the residents which gives the home a family feel and a personal touch.
There are lots of entertainments provided that the residents can join in with if they wish to help stimulate and pass the time. We have attended the summer BBQ, fireworks display and Christmas pantomime at the home which have been brilliantly organised.
I would like to thank all the staff for the care and attention they provide for my parents and wish them all the best for the future.

My mother has been a resident at Carleton House since June 2023. She has been very well cared for and her diverse needs are invariably accommodated, carers have been kind and supportive to her and she loves the food. All the staff chat with her and recently she has told me ‘she feels happy’. There is
nothing more one can wish for when making this difficult decision that someone needs more care.
There is always a warm welcome for whoever visits.

I can't speak highly enough of Carleton House Care Home and its dedicated and caring team. My dear aunt moved there in November 2021. She was living with dementia and totally unable to care for herself. Finding such a caring, personalised home for her gave me such peace of mind.
From being very withdrawn
and resistant to care, I saw my lovely aunt truly blossom in their care. She loved chatting with the carers and staff and could again interact with people with confidence and happiness. She thrived under their patience and good humour too. She was always clean and dignified and given time, including quiet time when needed. They simply took time to talk to her and go the extra mile in remembering all her little ways. To see her face light up was so moving. I visited her weekly and treasure that time during her final months.
When my dear aunt reached the end of her life, the care she received from the staff was personal, gentle and exemplary. Thank you all so much.

My father was a resident in Carleton House Care Home from October 2021 until April 2023 and from the very first pre-assessment visit to his end-of-life care, I could not thank everyone enough for the care and support they gave him and our family on our visits during this time.
It helped all of us to
know that whatever situation arose at any time, day or night, there was always someone there that could help.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and, when required, contacted us with updates during his stay.
It was the most difficult decision to have to place him into care but, thanks to all at Carleton House, the correct one.
Thank you all once again.

The staff, from care to kitchen and cleaning staff, are happy to talk when you go in and care staff go the extra mile to keep residents happy and well looked after. The activity coordinator really works hard to do things with residents. I myself worked in social care for thirty years until I retired
with ill health and know what is expected of staff and they really do live up to a high standard all the time. I am really very happy.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.506)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.506) out of 10 for Carleton House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.756 for Carleton House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.756
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carleton House Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
