My wife, who is awaiting knee replacement surgery, is living at Carlton House because I can not look after her due to my two recent cancer operations. My wife and I together with my daughter, know that she is being well looked after. Before the "Coronavirus" I was allowed to join her in the Dining Room
several times and had a meal with her which I enjoyed. We did have a small problem some months ago but after a chat with the Manager, it was resolved immediately. We are all very happy with the way my wife is cared for and have complete confidence in all of the staff.

My mother has been a resident in Carleton House since March 2017, following hospitalisation of her husband, who died later in the same year. She has Alzheimer's dementia which has gradually worsened to the point that she is now bed-bound and receives palliative care. I live in France and can only visit
occasionally, and not at all since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic. I telephone on a near-weekly basis and am always received with friendliness, courtesy and full information as to my mothers' state of health and ongoing care. During previous actual visits, I have always been impressed by the professionalism, courtesy and friendliness of all staff. I commend them all on the care and attention they give to my mother on a daily basis. I cannot praise them highly enough, most especially for their selfless care of residents during this awful pandemic.
Reply from Ben Jourdan, Director at Carleton House Care HomeGood morning, thank you so much for your kind, thoughtful and positive comments about Carleton House and the care being provided to your mother since she has been here.
Best wishes from all the team at Carleton House.

Our dad was a resident at Carleton House for nearly two years and we were very pleased with the care and medical treatment he received from the management and staff during this time. The home was always clean, well presented, friendly and had a real homely atmosphere. We would not hesitate in recommending
Carleton House.

Due to the current circumstances, we have been unable to see Mum since March 2020. She is completely bedridden (Mum has been under palliative care since November 2019). On all occasions when visiting, there has been a warm, welcoming greeting from staff and I have been able to see Mum either in her
room (or in the lounge/conservatory prior to being bedridden). Because of Mum's advance state of dementia, the care staff are very friendly and easy to talk to and give me all the information I ask for on her situation, care, medication and demeanour. Compared to other care homes I have visited recently the staff are very caring and look after Mum in all respects. I would thoroughly recommend Carleton House as a care home.

In this strange new world we now live in, I feel Carleton House has dealt with the rules and regulations well. Being able to see our relatives is most important to them and us. Staff always cheerful and helpful.

The wonderful staff are so kind and caring with my mum who suffers from dementia. They are always smiling and very friendly towards us and never mind how many time we call them or request a visit. The house itself is lovely and inviting and the gardens are beautiful and my mum is really happy there.

Having had the experience of an unpleasant care home in the past, we were very cautious about finding the right forever home for my mum. Mum had complex medical and dementia-related issues which we were assured would be taken into account. As others have said, nothing was too much trouble, communication
from staff was excellent and for the first time in nearly five years, I could start to relax and live my life again (mum previously lived with us 24/7) knowing that someone was always there for her when she needed them. Although mum has recently passed on, I can honestly say that her move to Carleton House, when it was no longer possible to care for her at home, was the best decision we had made in a long time. It is a real home from home, each person is treated with dignity and respect with a little humour thrown in where appropriate to brighten their days. I can’t recommend highly enough.
Reply from Ben Jourdan, Director at Carleton House Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad that you were able to relax safe in the knowledge that your mother was being cared for and that you were happy with the home. She is very much missed. All the team at Carleton House.

My partner's cousin has been a resident at Carlton House since May and is a changed man, he looks ten years younger. He is getting good meals and being well cared for, he's really happy and made friends, his medical problems have now been sorted by local doctors. The manager and her staff are wonderful
and caring people, nothing is too much trouble. Can thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

This care home is exceptional, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and there is a lovely atmosphere. Everyone is treated with dignity and the care and support is very strong. The rooms are light and airy and there is lots to do for the clients. I would be happy to be there, as would friends.

Dad spent his final months at Carleton House Care Home and he was well looked after. Friendly staff who know what they were doing and a pleasant, approachable manageress, they helped make a difficult time as good as it could possibly be. Only one complaint was, forgot to stop direct debit payment after
dad had died and money was taken out after his death. Soon rectified but this should not happen.

Settling into a care home can be a very difficult time for any individual. Carleton House have supported both nanny and my family with this difficult transition offering just the right level of support when it's needed the most.
The homes manager and staff promote a homely and welcome feel providing
activities to suit a range of tastes.
The meals cater for all and there are always alternatives if you don't like what's on the day's menus.
A great home who always want to achieve the best for their residents.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.723)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.723) out of 10 for Carleton House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.873 for Carleton House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (148 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 166 Ratings = 4.873
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carleton House Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
