A very pleasant "home from home" staff seemed to go out of their way to make my lovely Dad comfy and happy in many ways. His love of singing, his likes and dislikes of food and drink and chatting about "the past".
They assisted with doctor's appointments where possible and also sorted out a haircut
and a chiropodist appointment too. Thank you all very much. I only marked satisfactory for value for money because all such establishments are expensive.

The staff and level of care are what make Fairland House. My mother has been here 2 1/2 years now and is very settled here. She chooses not to participate in activities but that is not due to lack of choice. The public areas have received a spruce up in an ongoing refurb. Mother is very well looked
after and all needs met by friendly, caring staff. I highly recommend this home.

Fairland House Care Home is by far the most friendly and happiest home we as a family have visited, a testament to that is Mum states she is not moving anywhere she loves her home, so so happy there, she feels safe. The staff are so kind and attentive, the care is personalized to the individual with
choice and dignity shown.
There is a varied choice of meals always well presented of ample size.
The manager leads her team by example she is enthusiastic, happy and very hard working this reflects on her team, she is always approachable and reassuring to both family and residents, nothing is too much trouble. We are always made to feel welcome it is pleasure to visit.
Our grateful thanks to all the staff for making Mum so happy

I have just visited as part of a resident's & their families Christmas Lunch. The staff were amazing in looking after everybody - getting the residents into the dining areas and getting the families seated with them. They were all dressed up in festive clothing and went about everything in a cheerful,
"can do" manner. To see my Nan joining in with the singing after the meal was a joyful sight. Thank you to all the staff for all you have done to date, today just showed what a great place this is.

On April 1st I was taken to hospital, where my heart stopped 4 times, my organs started to shut down and I had pneumonia. After 3 weeks in hospital, I was transferred to the above care home for 7 weeks. Much of the time passed in a 'haze' but I do remember how excellent the care was before returning
home.
My husband has Parkinson's/Lewy Bodies Dementia is in a nursing home but I was still doing quite a lot for him. In the end my doctor said I was worn out, so I have just completed a further 4 weeks respite. Once again I have been looked after very well because I am probably more aware of my surroundings this time, staff patience with residents is amazing.

Fairfield is a lovely care home. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The care my mother receives is excellent. The home is clean and tidy and very homely. Food is good with good sized portions and a good variety. The gardens are also beautiful. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the flowers and
shrubs.

We moved my Mum in Law to Fairland House in June 2016 and she has settled in very well. She has a lovely room with a big window, huge comfy armchair, a good sized TV and an ensuite. The garden here is amazing and has lots of places to sit down to enjoy the sunshine if you so wish.
The staff are hard
working, kind and caring and the manager is outstanding. We have been able to stop worrying about our relative now because we know she's so well taken care of. On a side note, the tea and cake that is often provided when we visit is so kind and always very much appreciated!

My Mother has been a resident since the beginning of 2016 initially for respite care, recommended by a GP, but she has remained ever since, which is testament itself. My mum is happy and feels secure, yes she would probably rather be in her own home but she needs the care and attention given by Fairland
House. The staff are attentive and caring meeting the individual residents needs. They are the reason I rate the care home excellent. Nothing is too much trouble, from the manger through to the handyman. The rooms vary slightly as you would expect from an older building. My mum has just moved into a garden room which is spacious has a door into the beautiful garden which are easily accessible to residents. There has been limited activities recently due to organiser leaving and the post is now filled, so they should resume. If I had any negative comment it would be that there are no organised outings, however that apart I would not hesitate to recommend unreservedly.

Fairland House always makes us welcome, they offer drinks and refreshments, they offer other rooms to meet and talk to the resident. I always take the residents sister with me and she also is very happy. I myself have worked in a few residential homes and Fairland House is the best I have been in.

Conveniently located in town. Spacious en-suite bedroom (reached by stair-lift) warm and comfortable with room for small personal pieces of mother's furniture. Meals are very good and varied, always a choice. Never a problem for visitors to stay for lunch. Lounges, conservatory and dining rooms are
all warm and comfortable. Entertainment and activities (e.g. craft, quizzes and bingo etc.) every weekday afternoon. Management are very efficient and staff/carers are very attentive and caring. Overall a very well run and managed care home.

My grandmother went into Fairland House for respite care for 2 weeks, after a few days she had already settled in and didn't want to go home again, so she hasn't gone home and is now a permanent resident. This home is so warm and friendly and has a very homely atmosphere. The staff are very helpful
and kind, nothing is to much trouble. The manager is very knowledgeable and always very approachable. They have made all my family feel very welcome when visiting of which you can do at anytime as they don't have set visiting hours. Couldn't recommend this home enough.

My mother was a resident at Fairland House for over five years from the first day through to last (she passed away in May 2015) we were completely satisfied with her care. Fairland House is clean and bright, lovely gardens and offers in house entertainment. My mother enjoyed good food and very attentive
care at all times- a credit to both management and staff and an excellent care home. My father in law is now a resident there as well.

My very elderly aunt lived for one year up to her death in December 2015 at Fairland House and despite previously having been opposed to the idea of living in a home, she took to life at Fairland House immediately and never expressed a wish to return to her own house. She was extremely happy at Fairland
House and appreciated the loving and good-humoured care of all staff that went well beyond the call of duty. She also appreciated the activities and social contact with other residents that she had lacked when previously living alone for many years in her own house. She loved the excellent food, having always had a healthy appetite, unfailingly clearing her substantial plate right up to shortly before her final decline as she approached her 97th birthday. As her nephew it was a great relief to me that the high quality care changed my aunt's somewhat preconceived views of residential homes and it was a source of pleasure and satisfaction to me that she ended her days serenely contented.

My son arranged a place for me at this care home where his partner's gran had been very happy. I arrived straight from hospital and was made welcome too, a very pleasant room overlooking the garden. I now have my own adjustable bed and chair and various personal knick-knacs which add to my comfort
and pleasure. The staff vary from teens to retiring age which makes for interesting and varied communication at several levels. They are willing and skilled in which cannot be the easiest job in the world. My visitors are made welcome and often wanted to join a meal with us residents. The catering is excellent - someone has a wonderful hand with pastry, special diets i.e. diabetics are provided and our opinions are asked on new and favourite dishes. The housekeeping staff keep my room to a high standard much as I would expect at my home. They are helpful and cheerful and keep my bird table full. I think much of the success of this home is due to the management.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.255)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.255) out of 10 for Fairland House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.430 for Fairland House is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.43
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairland House is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
