Mum moved into Laurel Lodge at the start of the pandemic, June 2020 and Dad followed her in the October 2020. The manager was determined to get them back together, (Dad being originally in another home just for respite care). She managed to find a room for Dad without any hesitation. The care they have
both received since being in there has been second to none. Even setting up a 'date night' for them - complete with a meal, live music from the staff and flowers for Mum. They had missed their 68th wedding anniversary while apart, so this was a lovely gesture by the staff. I cannot praise them enough for everything they do for Mum and Dad. The adjustment to living in a home for Dad has been harder than for Mum - but through all his little, and large, quirks, they have kept smiling and taken it all in their stride. Mum has settled really well, has put on weight and is thriving. It's so good to see, as last year at this time we wondered how long we would have her for. Wonderful staff and care.

Laurel Lodge must be the most welcoming home in England. The staff always find time for a catch up chat and are very friendly. Telephone updates are frequent and always welcomed. Anybody looking for a place for a close relative - Laurel Lodge must be top of the list. Well done. Keep up the good work.

Dad went into Laurel Lodge when he couldn’t return to his own home following a short stay in hospital. He wasn’t keen! However, the lovely staff treated him with patience, respect and humour, and Dad became comfortable, happy and secure in the home. He was treated like a family member – for example,
I only found out after the event, that they had arranged a takeaway fish and chips supper and a glass of wine on his birthday; his favourite meal. This wasn’t something I’d told them, so they must have taken the time and effort to find out about it. Dad passed away peacefully in the home, and I can never thank the staff enough for the dignity, love, kindness and respect they showed both my dad and me, at that time. I never actually got to see inside the home or to properly see the faces of the staff before Dad moved in, because of Covid. However, my family and I feel secure in the belief that we struck lucky with Laurel Lodge, and I never felt anxious when saying goodbye after a visit. Thank you!

Laurel Lodge and all staff members cared for my father impeccably in the final months of his life. The care was very person centred, they were there whenever my father needed and granted him his final wish through hard work and dedication of the care home manager.

I did not want to come to the home, but once I was in, I could not have been treated any better if I was a long-term resident. I do not sleep well, but during the night, they always brought me a hot chocolate. The staff are very friendly from the carers to the kitchen staff and cleaners, so much so,
I almost did not want to go home!

Very good care for my mother. She is very happy. The staff is lovely. Lots of entertainment for her. The food is very good, we always get asked if we would like some lunch. New Manageress is always asking if everything is ok. She is very nice. Mother is very well cared for and I don't worry about her
being here at all.

The level of care here is excellent. My mother needed 2 carers and a hoist. But the carers were always very prompt and cheerful. The meals were always very nice and the rooms were always being updated. My mother has since passed away and the whole of the care staff were very caring in this awful time.
I still pop in to see the staff as they are like part of my mum's life.

The Manager of Laurel Lodge is very helpful and willing to please. The staff are friendly and caring. If my mother needed attention, she received this quite promptly via a call system. The food is freshly prepared daily in the home's kitchen, it is of a good standard and there is a varied choice of
menu, which my mother appreciated during her stay. Laurel Lodge has a pleasant, homely ambience.

My aunt received exceptional care at Laurel Lodge.
The staff were always positive, friendly, kind and helpful. They took the initiative when medical care was needed, particularly when she needed emergency medical attention, there was a strong relationship with the local hospital. We were kept well
informed at all times and we received help and support.
The family could visit whenever we wished.
The food was good and the room clean and well laid out.
In summary, there was a positive and caring feel about the whole home.
Our grateful thanks to the whole team

My aunt received the best care possible in Laurel Lodge during her short time there. The staff, administrative and care, were all delightful and very caring of her, right up to her death. I will be always grateful that I managed to find this home, where the overall initial impression is of cleanliness
and caring together (none of that awful aroma of boiled food and urine).

I found the quality of care at Laurel Lodge to be very high. It was very well managed and the staff took a genuine interest in my Father's wellbeing. I visited my Father most days of the week for the 5 months he was resident at Laurel Lodge and I found people were always very helpful. In the last
few weeks when my Father was dying from terminal cancer and becoming very fragile people would come to his aid very quickly and the end of life care he received was good.

My room is very well equipped with a bed, bedside cabinet, large 3 drawer chest of drawers, a small cabinet with a drawer and cupboard which I brought from home, a large raised armchair. My toilet and wash basin and shower room, plus a large cupboard/wardrobe, large radiator (not used). 2 large glazed
doors which both open well and a very pleasing views of a small garden with a fountain with runs over 4 layers day and night. A pair of attractive full-length curtains. Everything appears as new. All numerous staff are unfailingly helpful, kind and caring.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.938)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.938) out of 10 for Laurel Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.938 for Laurel Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.938
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Laurel Lodge is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.4 = 0.625
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Emily Carrasquillo

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2021

Emily Carrasquillo began her career in care in 2011, after returning to the UK from America, to provide care to her grandparents in their later years following her grandfather's Dementia diagnosis.
Emily cared for them until her grandfather entered a residential care home, and provided end-of-life care to her grandmother until she passed away in her own home.

This personal experience ignited a passion in Emily and prompted her to consider a career in care. Emily told us: "I couldn't imagine not working in care, every day I walk through the door at Laurel Lodge is like going home, it's my happy place"
