Review from Mike H (Son of Resident) published on 13 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mum aged 92 has been at Whitehaven since September last year having to move from a previous care home due to increased care needs. I was very anxious as moving is huge at her age. From my initial meetings with manager to transfer to Whitehaven, her care has been excellent. The care home is like a small guest house rather than a residential home, all of the staff are dedicated to the residents care and are lovely even in a busy environment still have time for personal chats ,the day room and bedrooms are always clean and tidy. I can't recommend Whitehaven high enough and a huge thank you to all of you.

Thank you for your review Mike. I will pass this on to all the staff who all work hard to meet the residents needs. We always strive to do the best for our residents, and mum is a valued member of the family. I will hand over this feedback, as always is a pleasure to hear this.

We chose Whitehaven to care for my Mother because it was a smaller more personal home which suited her needs perfectly. All the staff were friendly and approachable when any concerns arose, every effort was made by staff to ensure her needs were met. She was always treated with dignity and compassion throughout her stay at the home. We would have no hesitation in recommending Whitehaven Care home to anyone.

The staff at Whitehaven went above and beyond for my relative. He was only there for a short time before he passed away, they looked after him with dignity and respect, also cared for me while I sat with him as he passed. I recommend this care home highly.

My partner and I visited our friend on the 21st of May 2024. She is very happy and content in the home. She told us she feels safe and secure. The staff and management provide excellent personal care and support. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly, courteous and welcoming. I would not hesitate to place a relative in this excellent caring facility. Thank you all for looking after our dear friend.

Very friendly home. All residents are well cared for and look clean and tidy. Home well cleaned. Did a party for my mother-in-law's birthday and certainly went that extra mile to accommodate all the family. Lovely staff who work hard. The home always smells clean unlike some. Plenty of fruit and chocolate etc around for residents to eat when wanted. A lovely-tasting birthday cake was made by the cook too. Well done Whitehaven in Westfield, Radstock.

Overall Experience

My aunt was placed in this home initially for respite but ended up staying for 10 months. The more mature, experienced staff were very good and helpful. The younger staff were frequently found using their mobiles when they were on duty. Auntie's room was not cleaned regularly and little effort was made to encourage her to make healthy decisions about her care. Staff attitudes left a lot to be desired and the day-to-day running of the home was terrible.

Overall Experience

Our experience of Whitehaven Care Home has been nothing but positive. The clue to why it is good is the longevity of staff there. The kitchen is on view to the residents who are well fed and looked after throughout the day with refreshments and cakes etc. There is no smell in the common areas which is remarkable given the home concentrates on dementia etc. Our experience was relatively short, but over those months, we witnessed only care and attention to minor details. This comes from the top. The manager is always on hand and will help where required and not hide away in their office. If you look at the whiteboard in the office, it is clearly laid out with risk management tasks and when they should be done, an exemplar. There is no problem with tailoring the rooms to the residents' personal needs and nothing seems to be a fuss. Visitors are greeted with an offer of refreshment and a chair is provided if required. All in all, we were impressed.

As always, the manager and all the other staff are full of love and kindness that fills the nursing home. I'm sure they put love before money. I have peace of mind knowing my partner is in their care and at all times the home is clean. The food is 10/10. Well done and from all the family, thank you.

We have been happy with the level of care Mum is receiving. Our visits are not very often but the staff always seem helpful. Cannot comment on the food or drink as we have not been here during meal times. We were concerned about the smell on Mum's floor and know it is difficult but perhaps the carpets/floors need disinfecting more often.

My mum was a resident at Whitehaven for over 8 years. I can honestly say mum was very well looked after here. She was very happy and loved the staff, the garden, the many parties, activities, and trips out. During the Covid lockdown, everything was done to keep the residents safe. It wasn't easy, but the staff were amazing.

As a family, we would highly recommend Whitehaven Care Home. The manager and staff are all completely dedicated to the residents and treat them as their own family. During these strange times, it is reassuring to know they are kept safe and happy. When I visit, she always tells me how kind the staff are and how she enjoys having a laugh with them. It truly is a home from home for them.
