I have resided in the adjoining flats for over a year and I have meals in the dining room at Alvony House. I am encouraged to join in the activities and have made some really good friends that I visit within the care home, we have lots of activities that are arranged by the activities co-ordinator,
this has been an absolute blessing given the fact that we have not been able to leave the premises due to the pandemic. We have had theatre shows that have been watched via live-streaming and other activities in the lounge areas. The staff are really caring and considerate and have made a very lonely, sad, situation rather pleasant. They deserve praise for how they have all coped in such difficult times.

My mum has been at Alvony House for 13 years. She is very happy there and I know she is safe and cared for. The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. The way they have cared for all the residents during this pandemic is truly amazing. There is a lovely garden for residents to sit in and
lots of activities available. From the start, 13 years ago, I knew I had made the right choice for my mum and I have never regretted it.

Alvony House has been looking after my mother for four years now, the level of care has been exceptional throughout, even more so in the recent COVID times, which the home has successfully navigated. Not only have the staff looked after everyone as you would hope, but they have also consistently gone
above and beyond the call of duty to provide a caring and stimulating environment for the residents.

My sister, who has dementia, moved to Alvony House during the pandemic and so had to go into isolation for two weeks. The staff could not have been kinder during these difficult first weeks and during the subsequent settling in period. Throughout this difficult year, they have worked hard to keep the
residents safe and free from Covid. During the summer they arranged visits outside in the garden and then worked hard to facilitate visits in the "pod" when this became possible. This week I was able to go inside and sit with my sister because of the willingness of the staff to once more work hard to enable visits to take place. During what must have been a most difficult year I have always been met with smiles and good humour when visiting and know that my sister is well looked after in a cheerful, safe environment.

My mother, who has dementia, has been a resident at Alvony House for the past 18 months. She is content and well looked after by the very caring staff. As a family, we are confident that her needs are catered for and she is safe. Our thanks to all at Alvony.

My sister has been a resident for almost 7 years and throughout that time the care that she has received has been nothing less than excellent. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and caring with lots of good banter. Throughout the Covid 19 crisis, their first priority has been the happiness,
safety, and security of the residents. Thank you all so much. Well done.

I would like to thank all of the staff involved in my mother's care at Alvony House over the last three and a half years. They were consistently kind and caring. I felt that they understood her needs and made sure they were met as her dementia progressed. They got to know her, and I felt, they became
genuinely fond of her.

They were faultless in helping us through her passing; they could not have done anything more to make it as peaceful as was possible for her. We really felt that they cared.
I will always be grateful for their help to her and us.

My mum went into Alvony House as my dad was ill and needed to be admitted to hospital. My mum spent 18 weeks at Alvony House until my dad was well enough to have her home.
As a family, we were very happy with the care Mum received. All the staff were extremely kind, caring and looked after Mum so well.

My father-in-law and mother-in-law stayed at Alvony House Nov 18 - June 19. The staff were fantastic and made them feel welcome and settled from the first day. Father-in-law was terminally ill and we were so grateful for the palliative care provided at Alvony House and he passed away peacefully there
and we're so thankful that we didn't have to move him, he was settled and content. Despite suffering with dementia, my mother-in-law was well cared for. We cannot thank Alvony House enough.

My initial impression of this well run and happy home has not varied. The happy and sufficiently attentive staff work well as an efficient team. I noticed this month that the activities for the residents have increased and there is a variety, all which were achievable and the residents were happily
engaged in. Mother enjoys the food (which always smells wonderful to me), although not a great eater. The staff are well aware of this small lack of appetite and monitor her intake very well. I find the home a very warm and welcoming establishment.

My mother came to the home in January 2017.
My life has improved as I was worried for my mother's welfare.
This has given her a dignified life for the time she has been here and far better than I can do for her. Peace of mind and secure surroundings.
Thank you to management and staff.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.617)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.617) out of 10 for Alvony House Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Alvony House Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alvony House Residential Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
