Heathwood is a well thought of specialist dementia care home. It has a lively and fun atmosphere but also plenty of space for quiet contemplation. They have designed the interior to feel like home.

The gardens are safe, easily accessible at all times directly from the living spaces and allow residents to indulge their hobby, walk freely or doze. In warmer weather they regularly use the space for alfresco eating and periodic parties.

Families are encouraged to take part in the care process through resident support and social group. The busy atmosphere ensures that people in the home are enjoying life to the full.

The staff and managemnt team are excellent and my friend is very well cared for. There have been challenging times but the whole team have been highly professional. The room is ample for my friend's needs. My friend enjoys the food provided although she is never really hungry, she is promoted to eat.
My friend likes the experience of the home as she feels she couldn't cope on her own.

The care home is very helpful and understanding with both family of residents and the residents themselves. Also, nothing is too much trouble, overall a fantastic home. I would definitely recommend this care home as they are always there to help with any questions or queries.

When my mum had to go into a "home", I was heartbroken and very worried as I really didn't like any residential care home that I had been to visit. My mind soon changed when I spent time with Mum. The love and care that were shown to Mum were exemplary, and they went out of their way to try and help
her to be happy. Because of this, she grew to love than as well - what a wonderful group of people they are.

Although my mum has only been a resident here for approximately eight weeks, her care, love and support by all members of the staff have been absolutely excellent. It's like one big happy family - nothing is too much trouble. My mum is looking so much better since being here. Thank you so very, very
much for giving my brother and myself peace of mind knowing she is so well cared for.

I have nothing but praise and thanks to give to Heathwood Care home during the three years and three months Mum was here. Lovely carers, excellent management, clean, homely, happy and relaxed atmosphere. Great communication about any issues with my mum and there were hardly any as she was very happy
here and so well looked after. She had a lovely room and the home is really well laid out with a big bright dining area looking out onto the lovely garden. thank you to everyone at Heathwood for everything you have done for Mum, I can't thank you enough.

We fought with every fiber for Mum not to be put into care. In the end, it was taken out of our hands and she was sent to Heathwood. Heathwood is not the prettiest, nor up to date with modern state-of-the-art facilities. But what Heathwood has is heart, compassion, friendliness, kindness, and understanding.
Mum's room often has other people's clothes in it and not much of her own, but her room is beautiful, clean, warm, and homely. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

My mum has been living at Heathwood for a few months now and although concerned how she would adapt we were overjoyed to how she has settled in. Each visit we are so pleased to see Mum smiling and laughing. the staff I am sure would be working hard to create the equilibrium, and happy environment, we
consistently see to support the residents. The home is always clean, cheerful staff, rooms tidy and treated with dignity and respect. Mym has been has a trip out in the mini bus and spending time with other residents, so have come out of her shell. There are quiet areas and areas to engage with others. An example of what you envisage a care home to be.

My much-loved friend has been a resident at Heathwood for about two years. At the beginning of her stay, I was not able to visit because of Covid restrictions, but I was always able to chat with her on the phone and deliver gifts for her. Now that I am able to visit and indeed take her out, this has
become a weekly event. I ring each week to book our outing. The staff have always been really friendly and totally accommodating.
When I visit there is a friendly and caring atmosphere in the home. My friend seems to be really content and it is obvious that the staff are fond of her - which means a lot to me.
One of my delights is seeing how she is welcomed back after our weekly outings! It feels as though I am taking her back to a place where she is happy and loved.

Heathwood was recommended and my mother moved in September 2020, they helped her transition into living with the home family and made her feel welcome at a difficult time. Whilst at Heathwood she rediscovered her early love of music and dancing, developing interests and activities she had not enjoyed
for years. The staff are a cohesive, well-led and fantastic team who clearly care for the residents; they consistently helped and supported my mother with kindness and compassion. Their support at the end of life (January 2022) is beyond appreciated.

The manager and close knit team are outstanding in their service for the residents in their care. The home is just that, a home from home with lots of activities and things to entertain the residents. Food is just outstanding, we have had several meals with my father, and been to some of the events
that were arranged before Covid emerged. Since just before Covid, the home has been locked down, testament to their amazing care for the health and well being of the residents.
I know first hand how hard Covid has been for all the staff at Heathwood, everything has become more than difficult, but they have remained committed to caring for the residents, putting them first every time. Thank you's don't seem enough in these strange Covid times, but we are really grateful as a family to know how well cared for Dad is at Heathwood. If you are reading this, then you may be looking for somewhere for your loved one, believe me you won't be disappointed in Heathwood.

From the moment we viewed the care home, we knew that it was good by simple observations, such as fresh smell, friendly atmosphere, cleanliness, lots going on, friendly and welcoming staff. The room looked lovely. Mother was happy at the home and enjoyed the company of the staff and saw that they were
caring and kind, as we also noticed these qualities. She was only there a short while due to health issues. We cannot commend the staff enough. It was the best place for her to be.

This is such a lovely care home. My mum has dementia and has been a resident for 19 months. Mum has a lovely room and was able to bring a lot of her own things with her. I can't fault the care and, more importantly for me, the love and friendship she is given by everyone at Heathwood. I know she is
treated with the same care and compassion I would give her at home. I am always made to feel welcome and part of my mum's life. The home itself is well planned with various social areas and the residents always have free access to a lovely garden. There is always something going on within the home, my mum particularly likes the live entertainment as do all the other residents. They also have the option of going out on weekly minibus trips. The food and choices available are lovely and they are always offered a glass of wine with lunch if they would like one. The staff are lovely, well trained and deal brilliantly with residents. I couldn't have chosen a better home for Mum.

I find Heathwood very welcoming which is important for a relative of a resident. The staff are incredibly patient and caring for all residents no matter how repetitive or challenging their behaviour.

The home really benefits from the comfy/homely atmosphere that is created and there are always activities

for the residents to take part in if they wish. My mother's bedroom is cosy and she has lots of her own furniture and precious ornaments around her which is very important at the moment. The food is of a really high standard and there are always lots of cakes and biscuits at coffee time or when a resident requires a drink/snack.

Excellent - a very caring home with the manager running a well-run service.

All staff seem to have the best for the residents a heart. Always interacting with them and very jolly, always on the go, nothing is too much trouble and they seem to know the needs of each of the residents (which are very

varied).

Plenty of activities trying to make each resident's life worthwhile but sensitive to each one's emotions. Staff are approachable and the manager knows her staff and residents very well.

Always a warm welcome, good staff ratio, happy atmosphere residents are cared for with dignity. Efforts always made to meet individual needs and go the extra mile, for example, gran always has painted nails, freshly washed hair is dressed immaculately.
Residents always have activities to do but equally,
are supported to follow own agenda e.g glass of sherry or snooze in the chair. The dog a particular favourite of my gran's always helped to make a home environment. Thank you for all that you do. Gran's quality of life has improved no end.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.805)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.805) out of 10 for Heathwood is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.980 for Heathwood is calculated as follows: ( (147 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 150 Ratings = 4.98
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Heathwood is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
