My mother in law goes to Menwinnion for respite care when we go on holiday. September was her third time there and she would have been quite happy to have stayed. She is due to visit again in June 2019 for a 17 day period.
It's good to know she is safe, happy and well looked after whilst we are away
and my wife is able to relax with no concerns.

My Mum goes to Menwinnion for respite care.
She is extremely happy at Menwinnion and looks on it as her holiday.
Cannot fault anything and that gives me peace of mind when I go away, knowing she is happy and being well looked after.

I feel that some of the sundries charges are high:

1 - Male, 94, with little hair, charged £10 for a haircut.

2 - Chiropodist charge of £12 seems very expensive. How long does this take? 10 minutes? £120 an hour.

Both seem to take advantage of a tied clientele.

Reply from david mcinulty, Director at Menwinnion Country House Care Home

Thank you for your great review of our home. Please note that both our hairdresser and chiropodist are independent contractors - we do not make a single penny from their services, even though we have to arrange their visits, provide the facilities, pay them and onward bill our residents. We consider handling this to be part of our service, but all residents are free to make their own arrangements or go into town.

I continue to be completely satisfied by the standard of care provided by this home, despite the difficulties presented by seasonal staff illness, the vagaries of the weather, the positive and proactive approach of the management to attract and to fill staff vacancies when they arise and its ability
to effectively manage the wide range of health and social issues presented by the residents. This home should be justifiably proud of the long-standing excellent reputation it has earned in this area. It should be regarded as a place where nothing is too much trouble and held up as a model of good practice.

Myself and my wife, including my brothers, have found this care home to be a friendly, professional, caring establishment. My mother seems happy and content there and we are reassured that the level of care provided is certainly up to the required standard which is not the case with some other establishments
we have dealt with. There is lots of interaction if required or, alternatively, one can be alone if one so wishes and you cannot grumble at that.

I read Menwinnions website and was very impressed with its philosophy and values. When I talked to my good friend, who is a resident at Menwinnion, I discovered that everything the website says is true. My friend says the staff are wonderful. They will do almost everything a resident requests.
When
I visited my friend, I observed the staff-resident interactions myself and was greatly impressed by the staff's warmth and their respect for residents. The staff were also kind and friendly to me as a visitor. My friend's room is lovely. Her food sounds excellent. The care she receives sounds excellent. She is very grateful that Menwinnion had a room for her.
She had been in two other care homes that were not very good.

My mother was transferred temporarily from another care home whilst building works are in progress.
From the minute she/we arrived the staff were there to greet and move the transition as smoothly as possible.
We, her family, were treated to a superb lunch and it was nice to sit as a family amongst
the other residents.
She has settled well and seems to be using the facilities (hair and nails).
Hopefully, she is mixing with others during the activities.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.523)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.523) out of 10 for Menwinnion Country House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.723 for Menwinnion Country House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.723
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Menwinnion Country House Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
