My husband came in for a week, so I could have needed rest. He enjoyed his stay and said the staff were very caring and looked after him really well. The food was excellent, and he enjoyed the company. The room was very tidy and clean. My husband had a lovely rest in a very lovely setting.

Our Uncle was resident in Menwinnion Country House for three years until he sadly passed away this year. During that time, we could not fault the care he was given, and particularly so when his health was very poor and his quality of life extremely limited. All the staff came across as warm, thoughtful and genuinely caring. As we all lived some distance away, we were very reassured to know that he was in such good, safe hands.

Menwinnion was always a homely and friendly place with a cheerful and positive atmosphere. The staff were attentive, kind and caring to both my mum and me as a visitor. Mum was treated with respect and the staff spoke knowledgeably about mum without prompting. I feel she had excellent care right up to her death.

Overall Experience
My friend is not the most friendly person and has always told people to their face what she thinks of them, this at times is very embarrassing.
She often says she hates the place she is in and when we talk it through it's the best place in the world and the service is better than she gets at a top class hotel.
She has lost a lot of weight since being at Menwinnion but is a very fussy eater.
One thing I would like to see is a hand towel and flannel in her room for her hands to be washed after she has been put on the commode.

Staff and management are very good. Problems get sorted.

The staff at Menwinnion were extremely helpful and welcoming and went the extra mile to make my husbands stay very comfortable. He thoroughly enjoyed his two weeks respite. The food was excellent and the surroundings attractive and very relaxing. I feel very confident in leaving him in this well staffed and well-equipped care home.

My mother in law goes to Menwinnion for respite care when we go on holiday. September was her third time there and she would have been quite happy to have stayed. She is due to visit again in June 2019 for a 17 day period.

It's good to know she is safe, happy and well looked after whilst we are away and my wife is able to relax with no concerns.

I feel that some of the sundries charges are high:

1 - Male, 94, with little hair, charged £10 for a haircut.

2 - Chiropodist charge of £12 seems very expensive. How long does this take? 10 minutes? £120 an hour.

Both seem to take advantage of a tied clientele.

Reply from david mcinulty, Director at Menwinnion Country House Care Home

Thank you for your great review of our home. Please note that both our hairdresser and chiropodist are independent contractors - we do not make a single penny from their services, even though we have to arrange their visits, provide the facilities, pay them and onward bill our residents. We...

I continue to be completely satisfied by the standard of care provided by this home, despite the difficulties presented by seasonal staff illness, the vagaries of the weather, the positive and proactive approach of the management to attract and to fill staff vacancies when they arise and its ability to effectively manage the wide range of health and social issues presented by the residents. This home should be justifiably proud of the long-standing excellent reputation it has earned in this area. It should be regarded as a place where nothing is too much trouble and held up as a model of good practice.

Myself and my wife, including my brothers, have found this care home to be a friendly, professional, caring establishment. My mother seems happy and content there and we are reassured that the level of care provided is certainly up to the required standard which is not the case with some other establishments we have dealt with. There is lots of interaction if required or, alternatively, one can be alone if one so wishes and you cannot grumble at that.
