Set back from the beach, a short distance from the town centre in a quiet residential area of Newquay, Penberthy is a small home with a very warm, family feel.

There is a beautiful, enclosed garden, where the team supports residents to grow their own produce. This summer they’ve enjoyed harvesting this for the chef to use in the kitchen - from sweetcorn and runner beans to tomatoes. There is also a summer house and a Hawaiian-themed barbecue area, which is fantastic for summer garden parties and celebrations.

Part of the home is a converted manor house, with period features such as high ceilings and beautiful stain glass windows.

There are spacious bedrooms and a welcoming lounge area, with patio doors leading to the gardens, where residents can relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time, and often take part in activities. With everything from live musical entertainment, including performances from the local Forget-Me-Not choir, to pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages, there are so many activities to enjoy.

In the dining room residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals together, including roast dinners with all the trimmings, fish and chip Fridays and home-baking for afternoon tea.

The team is also passionate about embracing the local community into the home, with regular visits from young school children, who love taking part in intergenerational activities with the residents, to Scout groups who enjoy gardening activities.

The care home also has a hairdressing salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser.

A stone’s throw from the town centre, there are also lots of places to enjoy visiting outside the home, from pubs and cafés to the beach.

My Nan has been in Penberthy for a year now after struggling to manage at home with carers coming in. The carers, administration team, and management at Penberthy have been excellent with my Nan, and have always kept me informed of any issues and have always followed up any concerns I have raised regarding
Nan's health. I visit most days and the atmosphere it always welcoming. The activities co-ordinator regularly organises trips out for the residents to keep them occupied, as well as having day to day activities for them to get involved in. Whilst it's not like being at home, my Nan has thrived since being in the care home as it gives her the mental stimulus and social environment that she lacked when at home. The meals are always well balanced, and there is variety for the residents. Whilst care is obviously expensive, it has given me peace of mind knowing that my Nan is well looked after and cared for in the home. She is always treated with dignity and respect by members of staff.

I live the other side of the country. I keep in touch with my cousin frequently via phone. Today is the first time I have visited her. Home is welcoming, staff friendly a lovely atmosphere. All the residents were well dressed and content. Lunch looked excellent. The staff are very professional and caring.
It was a pleasure to visit. My cousin has made friends and is well looked after. They do lots of activities and also trips.

We visited last year when on holiday in Bodmin we just called in the staff were so pleasant the home we so lovely and clean and the residents were happy clean and well cared for, a year on and the staff are brilliant it was red nose day and a lot of activities, food looking lovely and again the residents
were happy and so well cared for, I would have no hesitation for any of my relatives to come here.

When my mum first came to the home she was a bit upset about being in a home, she's been there since January and she has settled in ready well, the staff are great they have a very challenging role and they all do it so well, mum like being at the home, the home its self is always clean the food is
great they have great choice and always looks and smells wonderful, Mums eating is so much better as she sits with friends, the rooms are keep clean and tidy at all times, no bad smells,you can vist anytime day or night always get a warm welcome a nice cup of tea or coffee and biscuits, the staff are so friendly and kind, I look forward to visting mum as I know she is well looked after and is happy to be there, I would recommend this home to anyone that needs a good home for there lived one,

My mum has been a resident for a number of years now. She says she likes the staff there. When mum is having a bad day the staff seem very understanding. A GP is called when needed, chiropodist etc. There's a very pleasant atmosphere at the home. Mum enjoys the singing entertainment and having her hair
done. Overall management and staff do a very good job in field of work that isn't easy.

The staff seemed very pleasant, made us a drink and biscuits when we arrived. The lady we visited looked well looked after and seemed to have a good relationship with the staff. The room was very nice, although would have been nice if she had an ensuite shower. Unable to comment on activities, facilities,

The home itself (building) could do with a lick of paint but the staff are amazing. The staff are always friendly, helpful and kind.

Do not under any circumstances have any member of your family admitted to this home. We love, adore our mum and wanted the best for her. We were assured she would be looked after. Sadly the opposite. After getting safeguarding involved thankfully she is now having showers but her weight still dropping
drastically and still not hoisted properly into bed or chair dependent on staff working. So many times we've arrived and wet through and hanging off the edge of the chair. Given overdose of tablets, sat with no teeth in. Nobody even noticed (mum is so particular about this! Arrived one morning, Mum covered in snot distressed. The team leader oblivious, sat eating her breakfast, even when pointing this is out said I've just wiped her nose, no tissues anywhere and then got a blue roll out of kitchen! So many incidents, heartbreaking. Last incident left in a wheelchair on her own in her room and fell. Heartbroken, all we want is for our mum to be safe and looked after.

Fundraising day. Very welcoming from staff. Manager was brilliant with guests, residents and staff. She is very knowledgeable but with a warm sense of humour, lovely personality. Staff seemed very attentive to residents' needs. Lovely day.

The home was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Atmosphere was very festive. Staff very friendly and welcoming. My friend who I was visiting told me the carers are lovely.

I feel very happy about my mum staying at Penberthy. All the staff are very lovely, and she is well looked after. I see they have a new activities lady working here, and found my mum seems to be interacting a lot more with everything since she started.

Penberthy House has provided such relief to my father's family. We are assured he is being looked after by such a wonderful team. They are always accommodating on my visits, making it feel like a home away from home. Over the time he has been there, the staff have always been so welcoming and talkative

The care that my parents are receiving at Penberthy House is excellent. All the carers are professional kind and caring. I am a passionate and well-rounded person and always want the best for our residents. I work hard to ensure that our staff at Penberthy have the skill set to assist our residents with every aspect of their daily living. I encourage staff with any ideas that they have, to bring them forward if they enable our residents to live a richer, more full life. Our residents at Penberthy have access to activities throughout the day and evening. We arrange outings and have entertainers come into Penberthy on a regular basis.


I have worked as an area manager for community Care for Cornwall Care for 10 years, I then decided to change career paths into the Residential setting. I have 15 years’ experience within the health sector, I was the Deputy Manager when Penberthy earned all green on the CQC inspection. I embrace change, lead by example and always have a positive, warm attitude.
